[SuSE Linux] IBM PS/1 printer

Hi, I have an old Ibm ps/1 printer (24 dot matrix) that I have tried to get to work several times without success. Now I see it listed in Word Perfect 8 and was wondering if anyone has managed to get one to work? If I get this to work, I can finally use my Windows CD as a Christmas Tree decoration. I have a S3 Virge/gx2 4MB PCI card which is both very cheap and works fine in Linux/X/dos/win95. I highly recommend this card. While I didn't have as serious a problem as digs did, I still haven't received an answer to a question I sent the outside Europe support desk 2 months ago during my "free" installation support period. I subsequently found this list and answered alot of my own questions from the archives. But I also haven't received an acknowledgement that my serial number was received when I sent in my registration card. I actually don't care if Linux supplants Microsoft at the desktop or server level, but for those who do these lapses in sound business practices at the most basic level won't help the jihad. It would be a shame to see this distribution (and after using four different distributions I'm a SuSE proponent to the core. In fact I'm getting a friend the box set for Christmas) undermined by these errors. It may not matter, but some people aren't going to be as forgiving. [SuSE Linux] DHCP on eth0?

Greetings, one and all. I was wondring what I needed to do with my eth0 configuration to allow it to access a DHCP server. Do I set the address to 0.0.0.0? Is there a DHCP client that I need to find(I've only seen a server thus far)? Yr help is appreciated. As far as I can see, the beta of 6.0 contains a beta for version 6.4 of PostgreSQL. 1. Please don't send HTML to mailing lists! 2. You really, really should create a new user for normal use. This would even solve your problem with starting KDE, since this is the default window manager for normal users (at least with my suse5.3). Please note that the user root has special privileges and is able to format the entire disk with a small command. Normal users cannot do this, they can only destroy their own files. Hi, I have two basic problems with my SuSE 5.2 installation. 1. I cannot find the PPP module anywhere to load it. 2. I am trying to compile the PPP support into the kernel itself, so I do not need to load it as a module, but when I issue the make dep command, I get an error message saying missing 'as'. Can anybody provide me with the location of the PPP module? and/or Can anybody tell me what do I need to have loaded in order to compile the kernel? I am running Linux on a Dell Latitude XPi, which is dual boot WIN95 Linux. I only had 500Mb available in the HD for the linux partition, so I do not have the whole system installed. Please HELP!!! I really want to make it to the Internet using LINUX! Regards and thanks! hi. =) i have a problem using kde1.0. i can't automatically start it using 'startkde'. according to the faq3.html i downloaded from kde.org, i should edit the files '.Xsession' or '.xinitrc'. but the problem is i cannot find those files in '/root'. and i only have 1 enabled user and that is root. i changed the 'xinitrc' file *suppose to be the generic xinitrc* in '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit'. i commented the lines after the line 'start some nice programs' and added 'startkde'. but it is still loading fvwm2. i've added the original 'xinitrc' file localed in '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit'. i'm a newbie with linux. and i don't really know what to do.
