I don't understand much Spanish but it looks like you're asking about a driver for a graphics card which contains the Intel 740 chipset. In the end I had to change /etc/XF86Config myself. Hie all, I've just upgraded to 2.0.36 and I now want to update YaST. So I downloaded yast.rpm and made : rpm --checksig yast.rpm yast.rpm: size md5 OK rpm --verify yast.rpm package yast.rpm is not installed OK OK, but now : rpm --install yast.rpm Data type 9 not supported What's my mistake ? I found nothing in man rpm. Thanks ! Hi, I am installing the new version XFree3.3.3 on my Linux 5.2 laptop. I am having a problem when I try to rpm rhe xf86.rpm file. It gives me an error message saying that I am missing the following libraries or files: sax ld_linux.so.2 libc.so.6 libcrypt.so.1 libm.so.6 libncurses.so.4 libpthread.so.0 Does anybody knows where I can find this files in rpm format? or any format? [SuSE Linux] NFS-INSTALL

Hi Everybody I have a problem with the NFS installations of SuSE 5.3. . Every thing goes all right until I need to insert the next CD. Then I mount the second CD with out any problems. But when I try to continue my setup it says that there is a setup error and can't continue. If any body know the work around please let me know. Last night I installed diald and masquerading on my SuSE 5.3 box. Everything was going just dandy (dialing, routing, ipforwarding, etc) until I realized that diald was constantly picking up and dialing. Now, being a fairly bright boy, I used tcpdump to observe what might be hitting the link and causing the dial. [SuSE Linux] App Recommendations?

Hi -- I've been using Linux for a while but almost exclusively from the console. Now, I've got a computer that's fast enough to make x11 worthwhile and I want to migrate all my GUI-dependent tasks to my linux box. My situation is that as part of my job I must edit html pages on the fly, as well as make perl/htmlscript/cgi/etc modifications on the fly for clients. I've begun experimenting with various programs & projects but I kind of wanted some recommendations... if anyone feels inclined to recommend.. (1) A telnet client that emulates ANSI (2) A visual ftp client (a la wsftp) (3) What is the best email client? One that can handle multiple POP accounts, folders, filtering, etc? [SuSE Linux] X Question

I just recently installed SUSE Linux 5.2 on a Dell Latitude Xpi. Everything went fine until I tried to configure the NeoMagic Video Card. I am using XF86Setup to setup X, and the configuration seems to complete OK, but when I try to startx, I get an error message and the system bombs. I am trying to use 740X680 resolution. The startx will work if I use a 640X480 configuration. [SuSE Linux] X-Windows crash & burning (:-(

Hello. I have got this problem. It doesn't matter what x-server I use, or what window manger, I still get crashes. The whole computer will just freeze, mouse, keyboard & all. The power button, CTRL-ALT-DEL (& other keyboard combo's), the screen & mouse freeze. The only input I can make to the computer is the reset button on the case. Is this hardware or software? What is causing this & what can I do? thanks in advance, Bye. [SuSE Linux] Packets Causing Unwanted Internet Connections

Hi Folks, First, I want to thank all you good folks who responded to my last posting concerning excessive network collisions. Through all your advice I was able to fully understand what was going on. I have been trying to find a new ISP and after going through three, I now have one that really lives up to their claims concerning speed and reliability. So, I have been away from the list for awhile Thanks again. Now for the current problem. Packets continue to be sent to web sites I have viewed for some time after leaving that page, or pages, resulting in continuing internet connections. I can see the packets being sent using tcpdump. There is no reply, the packets are only outgoing. This activity eventually stops but the time varies with the number of viewed pages. I am using the 3Com ISDN LanModem, SuSE 5.3 on all machines, with one acting as a file server/mail server/router. Netscape versions 4.05 and 4.5 are in use on different machines. This problems occurs with all machines. The packets continue to be sent even after Netscape is completely closed. It's occurrence is only related to web pages, not ping or email, etc. It also does not occur with the one Win'98 machine running Netscape 4.5. No proxying is being used. I have connected machines directly to the LanModem thereby bypassing the router machine. The problem persists. Any help will be greatly appreciated! D. R. Hello everyone -- I'm using SuSE 5.3 and had a couple of questions as I'm trying to upgrade GTK (so that I can use Balsa actually). What version of GTK does SuSE 5.3 come with on the CD? Is there a different way I can find this out (rather than asking!)? I am trying to upgrade to the new GTK but am a little confused. If I follow the generic way of installation in the GTK INSTALL file, does that do the trick? I'm wondering because I see GTK stuff in /opt/gnome/... and I know that /opt is not a standard Linux filesystem thing. Right? How do I know if my software is using the new version of GTK I put on? Um, as you can see I'm rather confused as this is the first library I've tried to upgrade in my life. I've installed mh-6.8.4debian25-4 from the SuSE 5.3 distribution and the 'inc' command consistently segmentation faults. Having been a loyal MH user for years I find this surprising behavior. I have aa Diamond Stealth speedstar AGP 8 meg graphics card and am having trouble setting up xwindows. 1/ I a\can not find a driver for any type of Daimons\d stealth AGP card ?? So which driver/ entry chioce shoul I be usinh. 2/ sax and xf86setup both will not work ,as they both dont seem to find any graghics card , as I ahve an AGP card , not an isa/pci card 3/ that leADS ME TO USING XF86CONFIG TO SET IT UP. I am using ver 3.2??? Do any of you know how to set this card up ?? So dar using the stnadard Diamond stealth setting , I get a 1/4 of the screen that takes up the whole scree. I aM UNABLE TO MOVE THE WINDOW AROUND. iT IS locked in the uper left protion of the window. The mous is moving , and it is using 300X200 resolutiom give ot take. I would like to get atlease 640 and 1024 resoslutions , and get the screen to size properly. Thanks I also downloaded athe 3.3.3 version of xf86config , it is a xsvga.rpm file. How Do I use this file and install it? Note I am new to the linux worl. [SuSE Linux] Difference between German and English?

Hi all, I was just wondering, what is the difference between the German and international (English) versions of SuSE? Of course, I know that the manual is in German in the German version, bot does it differ from the international version in other ways? The reason I am asking, is that I was thinking of buying the German version of 6.0. If the difference is just the manual, I can't see why I should wait for the international to come out, since I understand German quite well. But if there are other differences, I would probably stay with the international version. [SuSE Linux] Boot up problem

Hi, After rebuilding the kernel I updated lilo.conf as follows: boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map install=/boot/boot.b prompt timeout=100 image=/boot/vmlinuz label=linux initrd=/boot/initrd root=/dev/hda1 read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz.old label=old root=/dev/hda1 read-only Unfortunately after saving the file I've forgot to run lilo as docs suggest with the result that now my machine won't boot up. This 's the error during boot : #Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:01 I 've then created a rescue floppy and a boot floppy from the installation CD but both of them don't work? When I start the machine the floppy drive is read but few seconds later LILO: comes up and I am left only with the boot linux option. Hi I woukd guess most of that ram is occupied as "buffer", start osview and have a look. KDE uses a lot of ram, I have 32 Mb and its a minimum, i would think (judging from the sound on mu drive.). [SuSE Linux] Masquerade

Hi all, I'am running SuSe 5.3 on one of my PC's. Now i try to connect my kids Win95 PC to connect internet trought the Linux PC, trough masquerade. The settings on the Win95 PC are DNS= my IPS with DNS server seach order (195.121.1.34) Host = name of IPS. IP_Address of the IP numer of the Win 95 PC = 192.168.1.5 Than Gateway the IP number of my Linux PC = 192.169.1.1 When I start netscape on the Win95 PC, the Linux PC dail out, but says after 2 or 3 seconds REMOTE HANGUP. In my /etc/rc.config there is under masquerade: MSQ_START="yes" (offcourse) MSQ_NETWORKS="" ( which ip I have to fill in here, the IP number of the Win95 PC or the IP number of the Linux PC ?) MSQ_DEV="eth0" ( is this correct as I connect to my ISP trough ISDN /dev/ttyI0 ) Can somebody tell me what I have to fill in MSQ_NETWORKS= and MSQ_DEV= and why REMOTE HANGUP, when I try to connect my IPS from the Win95 machine? I allready read the Handbook of SuSe about firewall and Masquerade several times but it's not clear to my. I also read the Howto's Masquerade and Firewall, but there is not line mentioned about the /etc/rc.config configuration? Thanks for ny help suggestions. Could anyone from SuSe advise me (and probably hundreds of other users in the UK) about upgrading versus buying the complete version of SuSe 6.0 at the end of Jan 1999? I have just bought a brand new machine with nothing on it but with, naturally enough, things like a Matrox Productiva G100 card and a UDMA hard drive that are not particularly well supported by older versions of the kernal. I have the cover CD of PC Plus which featured a 'cut down' version of 5.3. Should I :- a) install 5.3 from this single cut down CD and then buy an upgrade version of SuSe 6.0? b) buy and install a complete (ie 5 CD) version of 5.3 and then upgrade as in (a)? c) wait until 6.0 becomes available and buy the full (ie non-upgrade) version at the end of Jan? [SuSE Linux] Need Help With Printer Problem

I've been trying for 3 weeks to get an HP Ljet4L back to functioning with SuSE 5.3. It's worked before under both v5.2 and 5.3. But I haven't been able to get any response from the printer since a complete reinstall of 5.3. Any ideas where I go from here??? When I do a cat /var/log/boot.msg >/dev/lp1, or an lpr /var/... >/dev/lp1 all that happens is the two lights which would normally indicate printing, go on. Absolutely nothing happens! While in this "suspended" state of no-activity, a check of the print queue for lpr, ascii, and raw all show to be empty. Nothing there to print. Need your help please..... any ideas or suggestions most welcome. I dl'd all the files from suse's ftp site (under the suse_update/XFree86-3.3.3-SuSE directory). The only files i didn't dl were the server files, except for the svga server. My question is, what do i have to do to install this thing? Should i remove the 3.3.2 X install that came with suse5.3, as well as KDE and start from scratch? I have installed Squid, but can't seem to find any man pages or other information on its configuration and use. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? If I ran a nameserver on the gateway Linux box - rather than use the one on the coprorate LAN - would that also simplify matters? As far as the corporate LAN is concerned, apart from the Internet connection, most of our PC's only use the network for printing to network printers. hiya kester, well i am from hudds, just down the road, i would suggest that you install the cut down version of 5.3 now, play with it, mess it up, and learn the hard way of crashing the system, then at least you get to play with linux on your new brand spanking machine! ;) then when suse6.0 comes out end of jan, go for it, that's what i am going to do. I got suse 5.2 from pc plus also, well it was 5.2 then. I downloaded all the 5.3 from the internet, installed to zip disk and took it home, put it on a fat32 disk, and installed from there, but the best bet is not to do that, just buy the suse6.0 when it comes out. I wouldn't bother with buying 5.3 now, not so late. Hi, I did what Lenz told me I download the file then I did: rpm -U <the file.rpm> I heard the disk and that was it. then I start xf86config, fill all the fields and chose SVGA 256 color server. then I did startx > startx.log X didn't start I got a black screen (nothing on it ) and a little noise in the monitor ( tic tic tic ....) so I did CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE. I went back to text mode, it seems by looking at the log that the server I choose supports the G200 but I cannot go to X. anyone as a clue ?? [SuSE Linux] xwindows setup - monitor res

Okay, another question.. my monitor works great at 1024 but I can barely see the font! So I wanted to switch to 600x800 and when I did, Sax gave me the success screen but without the four little squares in the corners. At any rate, the reslution is okay, except that the desktop is bigger than my screen -- I hate that, so you go to the bottom of the screen with the mouse pointer and it keeps on going. In other words, if I am looking at my docking icon, I cannot see the gnome bar at the bottom. Does that make sense? YES -- I had the same trouble with SO 5.0 and SuSe 6.0 beta. You could blame the 6.0 beta for not being an exact glibc 2.0.7 setup or you could blame SO 5.0's install program for being too picky about what libraries to look for. Bottom line is that the libc setup for 6.0 is not what SO5.0 was hoping to see. There is a SO dir (in the install tree) that has a glibc setup and instructions on how to install/fix glibc. It has a nice summary of which linux distributions have which libc's. (doesn't list SuSE 6.0 yet) SO 5.0 has a glibc directory that will install the 'right' version of glibc -- I did it on 5.3, but I did not want to do it on my 6.0 box for now... Anyone tried Oracle8 with 6.0? I used the glibc-rh.rpm from www.suse.com on my 5.3 system to try to get Oracle8 going. It worked some, but then I had linker trouble. I don't like the idea of having to force a SO glibc on my 6.0 system. I don't like loading a glibc-rh.rpm on my 6.0 box. I had this trouble with Software from Avant! corporation too. When I boot there is a message: Setting up network device eth0 Setting up network device eth1 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Try again SIOCSIFFLAGS: Try again The command ifconfig doesn't show eth1.
