HP ProLiant G9 DL360 & SuSE 15.5 Video Problems

Hi, I have HP ProLiant G9 DL360 with 16TB of storage which I would like to retrofit as video surveillance server. Server have only 1 problem - slow display of live video. Even moving window around is not smooth, video playback in youtube (in firefox) is choppy. It affects only video display, not recording. Built-in video card (lshw -C display) is Matrox MGA G200EH, driver mgag200 resolution 1400x1050, depth=32 glxinfo | grep render tells direct rendering = yes with GLX_MESA_***. I installed older SuSE 15.5 since newer kernel in 15.6 have Matrox drivers removed (please correct if I’m wrong here). I tried Gnome and Mate, Wayland is disabled. Is there any way to fix it apart from installing another vide card with help of DL360 Gen9 750685-001 775421-001 HP Expansion Slot Riser Board ? Thanks in advance for any help. Andrei

Zypper history: summarise rpm changes

I have a python script that can summarise RPM change-logs for anything install by zypper in the past N days. The idea being to work around the limitation that the Tumbleweed release announcements only lists the DVD changes, but the release almost always contains more than that. ShoutOUt to the devs! - Compiz + KDE3 + Tumbleweed - Simply Amazing

All, Roughly 20 years ago (18 ish) compiz 6 or 7 came on the scene when KDE3 was reaching maturity and the combination was simply amazing. Then for years, due to versioning differences, python version changes, etc... it was more or less a broken mess. Having a bit of time today I put a bit of effort in resurrecting my favorite desktop combination from the X11/compiz repo using the 8.8 version -- and -- the magic is back. Still a few kinks to work out (seems to be a crash in scale addon), but on balance it works incredibly well! https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/2fdde52b55c1 Even the emerald window decorations are there and work well. (I've probably got 100 custom emerald themes squirreled away somewhere) Seems that the settings tools port to python3 is mature, and the compositor works brilliantly. Fusion-icon works as well allowing switching between compiz and kwin and emerald and gtk decorators. (current gtk decorators - blah..) It's probably been 10 years since I've seen it all work together well -- and this is on Tumbleweed! I'll see what I can do to debug the scale crash. Great job devs! -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Nvidia G05 Drivers w/gcc-14 patch for TW available

All, With the latest TW update, packages must build against gcc-14. I've added patches to the Nvdia 470 (G05) driver and built against current Tumbleweed. All, Checking this morning and the official NVidia repo has now been updated: https://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/tumbleweed/ (G04 - G06 available, if needed G03 are in the repo posted earlier) Many thanks to those working to keep the drivers updated. Hopefully going forward we can put a pin in this topic for TW and see if we can coordinate patches and updates for the driver to track kernel updates in TW a bit more closely. Otherwise, TW users risk updating into an unusable install. And nobody wants to rely on a lawyer that dabbles in tech to scrounge for patches and hope he can string them together correctly in buildservice :) Let's hope the 6.11 update requires little in the way of patching.... -- David C. No Login, no Graphics after update to Tumbleweed 20230211-0

Hello, after the update the screen only shows a '-'. All the usual other tty screens that you get with e.g. STRG-ALT-F1 are also gone. I can connect to the PC via ssh from my Ubuntu Laptop and check what is going on. I am using an old GTX 570 on that PC. Previously when the G06 stuff was installed instead of updating the needed G04 stuff, I was able to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.157.run manually and the login and XFCE worked. But now even that fails. :-( Any pointers? Is that the beginning of the things that are named in Subject "Nvidia 390x driver users - glibc 2.37 will bring bad news" ?
