Which repositories should I use?

I have two machines that I'm getting ready to upgrade. The repository definitions on one are of the form | http://cdn.opensuse.org/.../leap/15.5/... and on the other, of the form | http://download.opensuse.org/.../leap/$releasever/... need help with transferring files from Android

Hi, I am traveling with my laptop with OS 15.5(KDE and should copy large files from my phone to the laptop. I have sshelper on the phone. But I forgot to copy the rsync command I use at home and didn't find out (google doesn't help). I can connect via console to the phone with ssh, but all my rsync trials failed (the parameters and/or path are wrong). So I thought I use bluetooth. The connection between phone and laptop can be established, but when I want to send a file from the phone I get the message: "laptop-name doesn't accept receiving files". Googling only brought up to install KDE-connect, I did on phone and on laptop. But it doesn't find another device to pair... (Don't know if it has to do with the kind of internet connection I use: My phone is connected and I use it as a hotspot to which I connect the laptop). So, if you can help me find a way to get files from Android phone to laptop, that would be great. I don't care how. - how to make my laptop accepting files via bluetooth? - or how to make kde-connect finding phone/laptop, - or how should the rsync command in sshelper look to copy photos from phone to laptop, - or any other idea? ssh public key authentication in Leap 15.6

A local server I used to regularly use to logon to with public key authentication in Leap 15.5 now reports: 92.168.33.2: Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive) in Leap 15.6 using the same configuration within ~/.ssh of both distros. Obviously, the IdentityFile is unchanged. Any obvious suggestions on where I look for the change in Leap 15.6?

troubleshooting nvidia

Hello list, I am struggling to troubleshoot why the nvidia proprietary driver doesn't work anymore (after some kernel updates previously). The G06 driver worked fine, including cuda some time ago... reverted to nouveau then, but now I need the proprietary driver working again with 3D acceleration and so on... I followed the instructions in the SDB. GFX card: 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti] (rev a1) Subsystem: eVga.com. Corp. Device 6593 Kernel modules: nouveau when starting the display manager service, after a long wait I get a very reduced GUI, with only one of three monitors working. neither the nvidia module nor nouveau gets loaded (at least the blacklisting nouveau seems to work...). Yast bootloader fails to start after 15.5 upgrade

Hello list, I upgraded from Leap 15.4 to 15.5 and now "yast bootloader" fails to start. I get following messages in the ncurses UI: Probing file system with UUID 406791e3-4103-4da5-8235-aa35ed5be74c failed Unexpected situation found in the system. Click below to see more (English only). Continue despite the issue? After selecting "Continue": Error YaST cannot configure the bootloader because it failed to find the root file system. "Details..." reveals just: "referenced" not found the UUID 406791e3-4103-4da5-8235-aa35ed5be74c belongs to the partition used for the root filesystem (btrfs). Anyone knows how to fix that issue? I would provide y2log if necessary, but there's much information I needed to strip.. Just wanted to change some command lines in grub. I hesitate to do that manually, because I do not want end up unable to boot... Thank you all and regards, Paul Neuwirth

ipvanish?

Are there any experts on how to get this to work under openSUSE? Specifically I'm running Leap_15.5 at the moment. I could use to guidance. I can use sudo to start openvpn, pass it a configuration file, userid/password and get it running. But am unable to get past that to get it started at boot/login.

where are the chromium user files?

Hi, I want to copy my "Chromium-things" to a laptop so that I don't have to enter bookmarks, passwords etc. manually. With firefox etc., this is an easy task, just copy ~/.mozilla/firefox But I can't find the Chromium files to copy. Where are they, what is their name? I rarely use chromium, but for some special tasks I accept googles spy-hunger and use it. So I'd like to have it on my laptop as well. But in it's successful effort to never tell a user what he is looking for and to make life as complicated as possible, unfortunately also in this regard, googles answers are wrong and lead to nowhere... I hope someone can help despite of googles struggle to hide information. enrypting partions within encrypted lvm?

Hi, Once again I have a problem in understanding. I am setting up a new laptop, completely encrypted. I chose an LVM volume group in which I will have partions "/", "/home/" and "swap". I have encrypted the volume group, it shows in the partinioner as encrypted under "harddisks" (PV of group). Now when I add the said partitions to this volume group, Yast again asks me, if I want to encrypt them. This confuses me. Question: do I have to encrypt those partions, too, or are they already encrypted because of being in the encrypted volume group? Thanks for clarification! New problem since dotsix.

I normally, under 15.5, run a script to do updates which has this in it: date | tee ~/Downloads/lastupdate sudo zypper up | tee -a ~/Downloads/lastupdate And if there's changes I get a line saying: Continue? [y/n/v/...? shows all options] (y): At which point I simply press enter and it runs the update. Under 15.6 it gets to the "Continue" line as expected. But will not accept the enter, or a "y enter". It just sits there until I give it a ctrl-c. The file lastupdate shows it doesn't do anything too. If I enter "sudo zypper up" it will work.

Password for encrypted laptop asked twice + strange waiting time

Hello, So I intstalled OS 15.5 on a lenovo Laptop with a normal /boot/efi and an encrypted LVM including partitions /, /home and /swap Now when I start the laptop I am asked twice for the password, where the first one takes 1 Minute (!) until the Grub-Menu appears and then asks it a second time... Something is wrong. But what? I appears the Logo of Lenovo in the middle of the screen and in the left upper corner: Welcome to GRUB! Enter passphrase for hd0, gpt2 (long number): I enter the passphrase (there is no feedback, the cursor doesn't move) After htting enter, it says "Attempting to decrypt master key" This takes a full minute. Then the usual Opensuse Grub Menu appears, I chose to start OS 15.5 and again am asked Please enter passphrase for disk NAME (cr_...part..): (This is the kind of prompt I am used to, it has feedback for characters entered (*) and immediately after hitting enter the boot process starts.) - What is that first passphrase question for? - Why does it appear? (I have never seen that and have installed don't know how many PC's and Laptops) - How can I can get rid of it? Thanks for your help! Access to S3 storage

Hi, what do You use to work with S3 storages (custom Ceph provider, no Amazon)? So far I experimented with s3cmd and aws-cli for download/upload and bucket manipulation; s3fs to browse content of S3 storage (FUSE mount); and rclone and duplicity for backups. Everything works, but it would be nice to have some GUI tool for buckets and data manipulation. Rclone web UI is close, but the best would be some "standard" desktop application (support in e.g. Dolphin). Did anyone find anything usable? Among GUI apps I found only FileZilla Pro, and some abandoned projects or projects without Linux version... KDE is practically dead after latest update

.Hi all, After the latest major update (including kernel 6.9.3) KDE Plasma X11 became unusable on TW. Plasma Wayland is even worse. Fortunately XFCE can be used, though it lso slowed down with long response times to clicking. What happenned? Can somebody help me to figure out? Hi, opensuse tumbleweed: up to now, i have had no inducement to change my harddrives from legacy boot to uefi boot. but now, i figured out that the full speed of the graphic will need "csm" off in bios/uefi, to switch on "resizable bar" still i do not understand what has the amount of data to be transferred to the graphic card has to do with the way bios/uefi is searching for the start sequence of the operating system. maybe i am to stupid. :-(( so now i need a little help: i have serveral tumbleweed installations, the easiest look like: Disk /dev/sda: 11721045168s Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B Partition Table: gpt Disk Flags: Number Start End Size File system Name Flags 1 34s 2047s 2014s grub bios_grub 2 2048s 11721041919s 11721039872s ext4 Linux filesystem legacy_boot 11721041920s 11721045134s 3215s Free Space they are booting fine with csm on. i like to convert them to uefi boot, have read here: https://www.redhat.com/sysadmin/bios-uefi https://superuser.com/questions/1310927/what-is-the-absolute-minimum-size-a… https://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~ken/inkscape-python-deps/blfs-book-sysv/p… so i think i have a good base to do. i think i will come to the point where i will have a fat partition. then i have to copy the efi files to that partition. here is my problem 1) i do not have inside my /boot directory the efi subdirectory, so, what rpm did i have to install to get the files, so that i am able to move them later on to the fresh generated fat partition? (i like to have only the absolute necessary files on this partition, to hold this partition very small) 2) what command did i have to use after i have a fat partition and the files in. grub2-install --target=x86_64-efi /dev/sda is mentioned inside the link "https://www.redhat.com/sysadmin/bios-uefi" will this harddrive then also be booted in a legacy bios, or if i like to have both boot possibility's did i have to use another command? 3) did i miss some important infos? thanks in advance. simoN -- www.becherer.de

kde5/6: recent files/recent applications

Hi *, the problem already existed in kde5, but continued in kde6: The menues for "recent files" and "recent applications" stay empty in the start menu, in dolphin and other apps. In .local/share/RecentDocuments/ all the desktop icons for recent files are still existing. The list is updated whenever I open a new document, but nevertheless the "recent files" menu remains empty. As for "recent applications" I can't even find a folder, where they would be stored. I found a few, mostly very old postings on the net, but no fitting answer. Anyone any idea? TIA. Bye. Michael.

Seeking Advice: MicroOS Host with PCI Pass-through to GUI Guest

I have a development system with lots of RAM and cores that I use like a server (i.e., several VM's and containers; none are production). To separate my desktop from my VM's and containers more, I am considering running MicroOS as a headless host with my desktop running as a guest VM using PCI pass-through for the video. Some advantages are the ability to reboot my desktop without disturbing the VM's and containers, and making my desktop less critical or more disposable. Does anyone here do that? Any advice? Mozilla's GUI (non)conformity

I use Plasma & XFCE depending on the booted distro and most non-KDE apps konform at least to some extent with the KDE desktop when KDE is used examples being Pan, Sylpheed, gftp and even nedit. The ONE set that is almost always problematic is anything Mozilla, Firefox in this particular case. I cannot change the title bar from black which just makes it impossible to distinguish from darker wallpapers, there being no way to select something with a contrasting window border either. How can I fix this?
