Missing window frames on XFCE after update

Hi, I had to shutdown my machine due to impending power outage. Clever me I figured I'd update before shutdown to pick up whatever was new. Well, whatever is new since my last update on openSUSE Leap 15.5 messed up my XFCE settings. When I start a new application there are no window frames and everything starts in the upper left hand corner. Alt-Tab is not working to switch between apps Since there are no window frames I cannot move windows around. And there is only 1 workspace, albeit the workspace settings dialog shows that there should be 4, which is what I had setup prior to system shutdown. Any ideas? Local Repository Copies?

Hi Folks, Is there a way to maintain local copies of the openSUSE repositories? Maintenance includes keeping the local repos up-to-date by downloading only the deltas between the remote and local repos. I know how to do this using the Red Hat "reposync" program, a part of the yum/dnf package, but it just doesn't feel right having to depend on Red Hat for what would appear to be core functionality. Note: I can't use rsync due to policy constraints. But web ports 80 and 443 are okay. I know, go figure... Any thoughts? Regards, Lew

TW - note: gcc 14 break Nvidia driver build - still working on patch for 390/470

TW users, Just a note, gcc 14 will break the nvidia driver module build. The discussion and initial workaround/patch is discussed in https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/nvidia-modules-build-failure-with-upc… I've not got a patch for the 470 or 390 drivers worked out yet -- if you do, post a link, but I think we can port the fixes in the above discussion to those versions as well. The CFLAGS default change also impacts the build. If I work out a patch or get one from the Arch list, I'll drop a link here. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

zypper 'last refresh' output

Hi list, since some recent update, any zypper command is always spamming me with a list of how long each repo has not been refreshed. How do I disable that? Didn't find any reference in the manpage :(

Leap 15.6 Announcement

At https://en.opensuse.org/Release_announcement_15.6 we see that "The release of [Leap 15.6] is official..." but the embedded link points to a page for "openSUSE Leap 15.6 RC"; so is "official" intended to mean "ready for general use," or is Leap 15.6 not quite there yet? spam

Today I have 5 spam messages, sent yesterday, addressed to users(a)lists.opensuse.org :( They are all sent by User-Agent: HyperKitty on https://lists.opensuse.org/ I've noticed previously that pretty much all the spam I receive from this list are sent in the same way. So if it's too much to ask that the filters for this source be made stricter, can I suggest that we simply ban people from submitting mail to the list in this way? Such traffic makes up less than 1% of the messages to the list, so we won't be losing much.

VirtualBox and Leap 15.5

I finally got around to installing 15.5 on my main machine here (up from 15.0) and with all such changes there are bumps along the way. The latest was trying to get VirtualBox to recognize USB items. I went through all the known and suggested fixes, the obvious ones like permissions and group memberships, etc but absolutely nothing was making a difference, to the point I started thinking "bug". So, I tossed a hail mary <-- American football term - and downloaded the .rpm from Oracle and told it to install and overwrite all. It did and the USB problem disappeared. Bug squished. The VB version on the OS repositories sucks. I have arrived at 15.5 late in the game; everyone else was probably aware of this item but thought I would put it out to the group anyway, just in case someone may have missed it.
