I know Suse is a big supporter of LibreOffice. As soon as I switched to Wayland LibreOffice menu item for "window" quit working properly. For several months now I have been struggling to use it with more than one document/spreadsheet open but it's quite annoying. Having separate windows that can be placed on different virtual desktops is nice but it would be nicer if the windowing menu worked. Does anyone from Suse on this list know if there is a plan to make windowing work properly on Wayland in the near future?? Thanks for any info.

curl / libcurl updates?

Devs, all, With the CVE reports on fire about curl / libcurl, when should we be looking for updates? Even the maintainer is mum about the exact versions subject to the exploit for fear of identifying the broken component, so it must be pretty bad... Just checking. And for those not aware, if you have applications using curl / libcurl, (just about all net connected apps do), update quickly when available. Upstream fix available now. -- David C. Massive upgrade this morning

Does anyone know what's behind the massive upgrade of Tumbleweed this morning? Glibc and its associated packages are to be downgraded, leading to a massive download off more than 850 packages.

Dual boot TW/Win11

Hi, every once in a while I have boot issues with my dual boot laptop where Windows 11 and Tumbleweed are installed. Just today I booted Windows (which does not happen very often but sometimes I need to) and had to install a bunch of updates. Now I cannot boot to TW anymore. So something must have destroyed the boot. When I open the BIOS during boot I still have the entry opensuse-secureboot available but selecting it just brings me back to the same selection so apparently something is broken there. What is the correct way to recover that and can I avoid this somehow? Thanks, Wolfgang

How to use Python 3.11 in Leap 15.5

In the article https://news.opensuse.org/2023/06/06/leap-modern-python-stack/ support for Python 3.11 is announced for Leap 15.5. However I can't find how to enable this support. Where is the repository with the packages for this version? The current python3.11 packages in the standard repository are not sufficient for my use case. -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf

No sound output through HDMI

I have laptop running Leap 15.5, which I occasionally connect to my Samsung smart TV and Samsung Soundbar. The video works fine, with the desktop being mirrored on the TV screen. But sound only comes out of the laptop speakers. The TV has its own speakers, or it can use the Soundbar. Likewise, the laptop can link directly to the soundbar via bluetooth. But whichever combination I try, I cannot get sound out of either the TV speakers or the Soundbar. It has worked OK in the past, so I know it is possible. My impression is that the problem is in some configuration within the laptop which should redirect sound from the internal speakers to the HDMI output. Any suggestions, please? Wanted: spacemacs users with latest GNU Emacs on TW

Hi, just curious if there are any spacemacs users with or without working spacemacs with latest GNU Emacs which now has native compiled lisp file support. For those which had managed a working spacemacs setup I'd like to see some hints or cook books how to setup a spacemacs with native compiled lisp support. switch to plocate

Hi List, I just DUPed my Tumbleweed to 20231001, which obvioiusly force-switched me from mlocate to plocate. Unfortunately, not a clean switch, as after reboot locate fails with /var/lib/plocate/plocate.db: No such file or directory Investigating further shows woodstock:~ # systemctl status plocate-updatedb.service ○ plocate-updatedb.service - Update the locate database Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/plocate-updatedb.service; static) Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:updatedb woodstock:~ # systemctl status plocate-updatedb.timer ○ plocate-updatedb.timer - Daily locate database update Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/plocate-updatedb.timer; disabled; preset: disabled) Active: inactive (dead) Trigger: n/a Triggers: ● plocate-updatedb.service Docs: man:updatedb Not too nice to replace a working setup with a disabled one :(
