[opensuse] Leap 42.2 - Why is systemd invoked with undocumented --switched-root and --deserialize options?

All, Leap 42.2 uses both --switched-root and --deserialize which are *intentionally* undocumented features. See: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2013-September/013008.h… Why are they used in Leap 42.2? On my Leap 42.2, I see systemd running with: /usr/lib/systemd/systemd --switched-root --system --deserialize 25 Is this intended? -- David C. The problem seems caused by a user-mode script running. If that can lock up the kernel, wouldn't that be good for a denial-of-service attack? But why give them any time if it is a bad decision? [opensuse] DSL/pppoe network connection in leap 42.2

Hello: I have a DSL modem (not router) I need to use to connect to the internet. For connection I need a username/password pair which is set up in the system. This scenario worked in openSUSE versions up to 13.1. openSUSE 13.2 lacks pppoe/DSL setup in YAST. When openSUSE 13.2 came out I thought it was only a temporary thing, and it would be fixed. Now, before installing openSUSE leap 42.2 I checked it, and found this: Thread: No DSL connection in LEAP 42.2 https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/521147-No-DSL-connection-in-LEAP… Is this information correct? And if yes is it serious, that after 2 more releases this hasn't still been fixed? I don't want to use network manager because I find it too complex, and I don't want users to be able to modify network settings. What I want is to setup network connection system-wide (same setup for all users) and that - users cannot modify network settings - users can connect to / disconnect from network by clicking an icon in the system tray or panel - users can choose from predefined connection setups This worked perfectly up to openSUSE 13.1 (smpppd and kinternet/ qinternet packages). [opensuse] Trouble after logging into Plasma

Hello, When logging into my Plasma session window decorations don't load, the touchpad and keyboard act a bit wonky (continually highlighting text, very tedious to type), and windows are opened in the top left corner if they open at all. Some apps such as kmail will not load at all. I'm logged in using IceWM at the moment, so I'm up and running. Just not as nice as Plasma or Gnome =P. Not sure what I need to look at or what I can provide for anyone to help out. I am running Leap 42.2 with KDE Plasma. Kernel is 4.4.36-8, no other kernels are on my system at the moment. [opensuse] problems typing text (curious!)

Hello, I try to copy/paste text from a "cat /etc/apache2/vhosts.d" on my leap server (through ssh). the goal is to write a document page on Pmwiki, but I get the same problem pasting in Thunderbird I'm in kde, also Leap 42.1 example below. I can't have the <Directory and /> on the same line, when I can have it there: <Directory /> (same for the other lines) the two of them are UTF8. I suspect some invisible character. How can I get rid of this annoying thing? Note: I don't know how to send you an example, Thunderbird fix the problem :-). [opensuse] Sign of a Failing SD Card?

Hello, I have an SD card that is giving me trouble. I had Fedora 25 ARM on it before it stopped responding. I noticed it when I could no longer SSH to the Raspberry Pi. I plugged in a monitor and received an error when running any command I tried (I'm afraid I forgot to write it down). On reboot it would fail into a recovery console. When running fsck on the card I receive gobs of errors on the main partition. Below is a sample of the errors, there are many many more, all the same just the blocks change. Is this the sign of a failing card? I reformatted once and reinstalled Fedora, but only about a week later I noticed the same problem. I ran fsck.ext -y and it took a few minutes to churn through. No errors were printed at the end. [opensuse] Thunderbird and archived mail broken?

One of the nice things about Thunderbird is the ability to archive mail locally. I have used it in the past when it worked well. Not any more! I am using TB 45.6 in Leap 42.2 with KDE Frameworks. I have two accounts, one IMAP and one gmail. I have set the IMAP account to archive messages in the "Archives" folder in Local Folders, but it consistently ignores this setting and moves them into "Archives" on the IMAP server. The Mozilla help forum has been unhelpful, and googling hasn't provided a solution either. Does anyone on the list use this feature of Thunderbird? Have you come across this problem? [opensuse] 42.2 - Why don't icons stay put???

One thing I've noticed is that desktop icons have a bad habit of moving around after rebooting etc. At least in 13.1, they tended to stay put (but not always), if one properly logged out. Why do they move around in 42.2? In other operating systems I've worked with (Windows & OS/2), they always retained their position. [opensuse] Fans on Full Speed or not at all (Leap 42.2 Fresh install)

Oldish (ok, ancient) laptop, Dell Insperion 9400 with new install onto SSD. Since the update of last Monday, fans come on full speed even at low-ish temps of 34C. Fans are either full speed or none at all. When I first installed 42.2 I don't remember this being this way. My fans have several intermediate speeds. What changed, and how can I get back to stepped and managed fan speeds?
