[opensuse] VLC can not play MP3 files

Hello, My favourite media player is VLC and of course I got it installed on Leap. But it does not work. For simple mp3 files I get: Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "mpga" (MPEG Audio layer 1/2) Tried an older AVI file: Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "mp4v" (MPEG-4 Video) Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "mp3 " (MPEG Audio layer 3) A newer MKV file: Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "h264" (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)) Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "a52 " (A52 Audio (aka AC3) Then I tried a FLAC file and it works fine. What's up? [opensuse] apache 2.4 performance issue / processwire.

A customer has reported a performance issue - their new website is slow. 3-4 seconds per page load. I can confirm it. It is a shared server, quite old. 2 x 2.4GHz Xeons, 4Gb RAM. It's running openSUSE 12.3, apache 2.4 with mpm-itk. However, it does not appear to be hardware related, other pages serve perfectly well, e.g. http://www.dns24.ch/ (I'll send you the customer website link privately if you want). The website is using a CMS called Processwire: http://processwire.com/ They don't have a support mailing list only fora (which I detest). Anyone here happen to be familiar with processwire? The web developer who's been doing the work doesn't seem overly familiar with tuning processwire, so I'm kind of left with solving the problem. [opensuse] getting sensors to work

Hello, I'd like to control my fan speed. I have installed the sensors package and ran sensors-detect (as root). Here is what I got at the end: Do you want to generate /etc/sysconfig/lm_sensors? (YES/no): Copy prog/init/lm_sensors.init to /etc/init.d/lm_sensors for initialization at boot time. You should now start the lm_sensors service to load the required kernel modules. The only non-commented line in the new etc/init.d/lm_sensors is: HWMON_MODULES="coretemp nct6775" So how do I get hese modules to load? I do not know where prog/init/lm_sensors.init is, and besides, opensuse uses systemd, non sysv-init? [opensuse] sensors - how do I configure fancontrol?

Hello, So, pwmconfig fails to configure fancontrol because it fails to stop the CPU fan. Probably because the command # echo "0" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm2 actually makes the CPU fan rotate full speed. As does 255. I found no way to stop the fan completely, but the command # echo "30" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm2 makes it rotate very slowly, practically silently, and when I stop it with the finger it does not rotate again. This same slow "finger-stoppable" speed is there for about 29 to 50; with 25 or 60 it does restart if stopped by finger. So I assume that 30 gets me the minimum speed. I'd love to be able to stop it completely, but probably the mobo does not allow it? Or is there something I can try? Anyway - the CPU is a Pentium G2120. Under idle, which is really what I have most of the time, I get a CPU temperature of about 32 degrees even with the CPU fan stopped (though once it was stopped I did not close the case, and it's not very hot here, not over 20 degrees I think). I started stress -c 2 and glxgears (to give some GPU load). The temperature of the CPU (CPUTIN) rose very slowly with a stopped fan, crawling to 48 degrees in half an hour. Once I started the fan at the "30" minimum speed, the temperature "under stress" started falling.. And at that moment I get: # cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/fan2_input 0 If I raise the speed a bit, the fan2_input gets very erratic: # echo "70" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm2 # cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/fan2_input 270000 # echo "100" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm2 # cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/fan2_input 1942 # echo "30" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/pwm2 # cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/fan2_input 0 And as for the temperature sensor, I found it's this: # cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/temp2_input 42000 corresponds to a CPU temperature of 42 degrees. I would just echo 30 to pwm2 and hope it will always be enough. [opensuse] Authoring Looping DVD's

Hi Folks, I've been asked to assemble some video content for public display at a local museum. They want to be able to play a DVD and have it bypass the menu display and loop the content continuously. I know this can be done with proprietary Windows/IOS software, but I just can't bring myself to go there... I've tried several Linux utilities, including devede and dvdauthor, but either they can't do it or I'm not clever enough to figure it out. DRM isn't an issue here, the content isn't protected, and the museum has permission to display from the producer. Does anyone have any experience with burning loopy DVD's? Hello List , since latest t'weed zypper dup , i have no sound With yast i have reinstalled 48 gstreamer packages and also alsa - but still no audio the error message i get from xfce settings : "GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. I am trying to print from firefox. The printer is seen, it is correctly setup. Before I had random failures of the filter. No it is constant. It is the first time I et a tangible message from the system. It says:loadFilname failed: /var/spool/cups/d00115-001: unable to find trailer dictionary while recovering damaged file. WTF? I never had this. Should I erase /var/spool/cups/ content? What happens here? This is a frequent error I encounter on this machine when trying to print. [opensuse] How to read/convert .pdb files from Palm Tungsten E2?

I am using openSUSE-13.1. I have a bunch of .pdb files which I downloaded from my old Palm Tungsten E2. I would like to convert several of the to useable formats so the info can be imported in to more current, Linux deaktop apps. Any ideas how I can do it? I have tried the apps in the palm-db-tools rpm (palm-db-tools-0.3.6-273.1.2.x86_64), but they do not seem to recognize the .pdb files DB format and, if I add an additional cmdline flag to set the DB type as in the manual.txt file, I get other, strange errors. The files I would like to be able to access and/or convert include: ContactsDB-PAdd.pdb CalendarDB-PDat.pdb MemoDB.pdb The most urgent one at this time is the Contacts DB. I have not tried the other pilot-xfer tools or the jpilot app since they are oriented more toward interacting with the Palm device itself. However, since I have already downloaded the DB files from the device, I believe it may be easier to interact directly with them. So far, I have only copied the files from the Palm device to the Linux using pilot-xfer and have tried to view them. I now have an need for some of the data in the files and so am only now asking for this help. I'd like to do the conversions before all knowledge of such things evaporates from this earth forever and no one remembers the palm devices or any thing about them.
