[opensuse] Tumbleweed version number?

Hi Folks, I'm considering Tumbleweed for a customer, but they want to "register" the version number. What version numbering scheme does TW use? What would "/etc/os-release" show? Would it be a static number, or would it change as it "tumbles"? [opensuse] what's the alternative to console on serial?

I'm trying to debug a problem with a system booting with root on NFS. I would have attached a serial console long ago and solved the problem, but this box doesn't have a serial port ... what's the alternative for getting access to those early messages? [opensuse] Question before an upgrade

I am now using os 12.3 on a lenovo box bought loaded with Windows 10. I just installed 12.3 over it, destroying the Windows partition. I had never heard of UEFI. I didn't get a grub loader. I must boot from the cd using 'boot from the hard disk." Now I plan to install 13.2. I have folders in /boot for grub, grub2 and grub2efi, which seems just to point to grub2. How do I need to deal with UEFI, if indeed I do. I presently have digikam running on two machines. It works as expected on one machine while the other presents the above error report. I have manually compared (under Yast2) the versions of ffmpeg, libavcodec and Gstreamer files between the two machines and they appear to match. By the way, is there an automated way to perform such a comparison? I have looked at the .service files, but I do not know to be looking for. I did not see org.freedesktop.PackageKit listed as a service on either machine. On EXT3 and EXT4, is journal space allocation a component of any of the df output? IOW, if space consumed is 98% and the journal is the default size, can or does the journal prevent consumption of that last 2%? Reason for asking: I have a STB that according to blkid is using EXT3, a partition using the entirety of the "2TB" HD, for recordings. Even though there is far more freespace on the filesystem, 25991708 1K blocks (or more, subject to deleting test recording attempts), it's truncating recordings to about 13000K or 14000K, within a minute of beginning any recording. I'm trying to figure out how much space ultimately is or will be available before space is truly exhausted. Can an EXT3 filesystem be "converted" to EXT2, IOW, dispense with the journal? How about changing the size of the journal to line up closely to the size of a typical recording file (somewhere in the 2G to 12G range). [opensuse] unounting external HD is not permitted

Hello: This occurs in openSUSE 13.1 with KDE3 as default desktop. I have a Samsung external USB hard drive. When I plug it in it becomes mounted: df -h /dev/sdd1 932G 270G 662G 29% /media/SAMSUNG ls -l /dev/sdd1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 49 Mar 9 23:12 /dev/sdd1 The desktop user is member of group disk. When I try to unmount the device I get: > umount /dev/sdd1 umount: /media/SAMSUNG: umount failed: Operation not permitted Why is this and how can I fix it? [opensuse] openSUSE as a SSH gateway - 13.2 much less reliable :(

All, Has anyone had issues with 13.2 having poor SSH Tunnel reliability? === details === I have used AutoSSH to connect to my cloud server from various computers behind firewalls to provide a VPN like connection to various computers behind firewalls. I'm using SSH tunnels. The concept is to use SSH to make an outbound connection to the gateway server and establish the tunnel there. The VPN destinations include Linux and Windows boxes at various points in time. (I blogged the setup details for a Windows destination here: https://lizards.opensuse.org/author/gregfreemyer/) The gateway server has been an openSUSE server the whole time. I've had very good reliability, until 9 days ago when I upgraded the server from openSUSE 13.1 to openSUSE 13.2 Now I am getting failure to connect issues repeatedly. Luckily all 4 of my current "targets" are behind the same firewall, so if I can get to one I can move around internally. That works, but its annoying, and further the "working" connection isn't consistent so one of these days I assume none will work (And I will have to actually go to my office!) [opensuse] Bluetooth not working at all now, openSUSE LEAP

I am using openSUSE Leap on a Dell Latitude E5550. Previously, when I went to "Settings | Configure Desktop | Bluetooth", it would allow me to remove devices (which is now not working) and would scan for devices (which is also now not working). I recently updated software (security patches), but I didn’t see anything in there that would have changed how Bluetooth operates. I don’t know how to troubleshoot this. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

[opensuse] External VGA Monitor not being detected in tumbleweed - Elitebook 840

Hello! I have installed Tumbleweed with KDE on my HP EliteBook 840, everything goes like a charm, but when I try to plug an external monitor through the VGA output, nothing happens. The F4 key doesnt work, the KDE Configure desktop doesnt show the monitor. I can only make it work after I execute in a terminal "xrandr". Is this a bug? or there is something that Im missing somewhere? lspci gives: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics (rev 09) Thanks!
