[opensuse] No shutdown messages

Since a long time (probably starting from openSUSE 13.2 until now - Tumbleweed) I have the problem on one of my PCs, where I can't see any shutdown messages ("Stopping service XYZ ...") on shutdown. I already switched to all consoles. There is nothing. Start-up messages ("Starting service XYZ ...") show up. Shutdown, suspend/resume etc. itself works. On shutdown after around 5-10 seconds the PC powers off. But if there will be a problem in future, I have no change to see, which service causes problems during shutdown. I already tried different things: * Start-up/shutdown without X11 (runlevel 3) * Playing with Grub Kernel options; currently "resume=/dev/sda2 nomodeset gfxpayload=vga=normal video=vesa:off quiet" * Playing Plymouth options; currently no "splash=silent" and no "showopts" Nothing worked until now. I am also suppress to kill the following warning from NVidia driver: [ 29.855924] NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console [ 29.855927] NVRM: on the primary VGA device. The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver [ 29.855929] NVRM: requires the use of a text-mode VGA console. Use of other console [ 29.855930] NVRM: drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result in [ 29.855931] NVRM: corruption and stability problems, and is not supported. Any ideas? [opensuse] Serious Nvidia Problem

Hi guys! I am having an serious problem with my system. I am using bumnlebee and have a nvidia card in The laptop. Normally The graphical stuff is working quite okay but since today i am not able to start the system. Here is the Problem: Startup works. But as soon as in log in , The system hangs up. Nothing is working. I tried to start a terminal Wirth Ctrl+alt+f1 and similar stuff but The system is totally Hang up ...bo Chance Tod reboot Ort change Tod init 3. Is it possible to start the system to init 3. Because i thought of making an update or remove bumblebee and use the nouveau stuff for the time being...any hints? Interstingly i didn't even make an update in the last 10 days, so nothing should have changed.... I got The followoibg error which seems to be the critical one: Nvidia_uvm: disagrees about Version of symbole module_layout Thänks for help this critical! [opensuse] Plasma 5 windows decorations crash

Hi, I'm using OpenSuse 42.1 with KDE Plasma 5 and some times the windows decorations vanish from the open applications, causing that I can only close them with the menu File->Quit, but I can't move or close the windows, cause the top bar with the minimize, maximize and close buttons vanished. [opensuse] ERR 67108949 No pinentry <GPG Agent>

I am trying to get enigmail working with thunderbird as installed from opensuse packages (and the enigmail plug-in installed via the add on manager). This is quite different from the problem Robert Schweikert had a few days ago. Following the engimail FAQ entries on how to get GPG2 to work with it, I tracked the problem down to this: tkacvinsky@athena:~> gpg-connect-agent <<EOT > GET_CONFIRMATION Hello World > EOT ERR 67108949 No pinentry <GPG Agent> The pinentry-program in ~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf is /usr/bin/pinentry-qt4 If I change it to just pinentry (w/o -qt4), everything works fine. And even more odd, if I start the agent in debug mode (with the pinentry program being the Qt4 variant), everything works fine. [opensuse] VGA.PCF Font Not Available In WINE Running NetTerm

I use the terminal emulation application NetTerm via Wine. Works great, except that the line drawing characters, etc... do not work. On Windows we select the isi_oem font, equivalent I believe to the font provided by VGA.PCF (ala DOSEMU). In one way there's a certain elegance to the systemd timer concept, and it certainly seems very flexible. OTOH I'm not sure I like having two timer mechanisms. However, I have been looking at logrotate.timer, and have a couple of questions: a) what is the systemd equivalent of cron's MAILTO setting? slightly more complex: # systemctl list-timers --all NEXT LEFT UNIT ACTIVATES Thu 2016-03-24 15:27:46 CET 6h left systemd-tmpfiles-clean.timer systemd-tmpfiles-clean.service Fri 2016-03-25 00:00:00 CET 14h left logrotate.timer logrotate.service [snip] Clearly logrotate.timer is due to fire tonight at midnight, very good. [opensuse] suse-prime on leap 42.1 with kernel 4.5?

Me again :-) I managed to get kernel 4.5 running on my Asus laptop adding option "intel_idle.max_cstate=7". Everything works, except the nvidia thing... I simply installed the new kernel with Yast, after reboot - one-click install http://opensuse-community.org/nvidia.ymp and - software.opensuse.org... suse-prime for leap... one-click install But running "prime-select nvidia" gives me: modprobe: ERROR: could not find module by name='nvidia' modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': Function not implemented modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia_uvm not found. mknod: missing operand after '0' Try 'mknod --help' for more information. ERROR: Unable to query GPU information Running ldconfig Anybody knowns what I have to do/how can I proceed to successfully use suse-prime with the new kernel? I really try hard to entertain everyone :-), but this morning's puzzle didn't last long ... How about this one instead - I have two virtually identical systems, both xen DomUs, hosted on the same xen host. Both are openSUSE 13.2, one is kernel-3.16.7-35, the other kernel-3.16.7-24. I am interested to know what some of you all use to edit PDF documents. I was using the web based service DocHub, but they changed their policy so that now you only are allowed to apply 3 signatures per month unless you upgrade to a paid service, which costs $84 annually. Naturally I am not into paying for unnecessary things, so I thought I would ask around for a linux based application that I can just have on my pc. I got several google hits, but I would be interested to know what you all use and what you might recommend. [opensuse] ntpd failing

I have a local box which I cannot get ntp to work properly, following error in logs: giving up resolving host us.pool.ntp.org: Servname not supported for ai_socktype (-8) google does not provide a solution that I have found. Box is attached wireless, wlan0, and ipv6 is enabled.
