it appears packman has moved to http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_13.1/Essentials/ am I the only one having trouble getting it added to my repos and accessing it? Hello. After having updated my OpenSuSE 13.2 system to # uname -a Linux linux-8dae 3.16.7-21-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Apr 14 07:11:37 UTC 2015 (93c1539) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I'm getting some new error messages [ 4.530621] bbswitch: version 0.8 [ 4.530630] bbswitch: cannot find ACPI handle for VGA device 0000:01:00.0 [ 4.530633] bbswitch: No discrete VGA device found PCI device 01:00.00 is a 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106 [GeForce GTX 660] (rev a1) And also sometimes I get [ 7740.061204] nouveau E[ DRM] GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon [ 7744.197641] nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] SCHED_ERROR [ CTXSW_TIMEOUT ] [ 7744.198170] nouveau E[ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] PGRAPH engine fault on channel 1, recovering... I'm using nouveau as in the past I did have a lot of issues with the nvidia driver (i.e.with OpenGL). Sometimes the problem is really severe and the graphical system hangs (however remote logins (ssh etc) are still OK). By googling/searching I could not find any hint on how to solve the two issues on OpenSuSE 13.2. Tnx in advance for your help. [opensuse] printer recommendation

13.2 Hi We currently have a HP printer which only works when the computer it is connected to is on. Is there a wifi printer we could use instead for laptops and phones? Whilst I can find information about the 'phone, no one has any information as to whether it will work from an opensuse laptop. Any recommendations based on experience using this setup? [opensuse] CPU speed

I have a system (not a laptop) that has an "AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1100T Processor", as reported in /proc/cpuinfo. I have been monitoring the CPU speed as reported there and I see that quite often the speed is reported as 800 MHz instead of 3300 MHz. For example, I ran the four commands pretty much one after the other. [opensuse] openSUSE Windows AD client and Group Policies

In the office, our openSUSE machines join the Windows Active Directory. This works great and allows one to log in using the AD credentials. Not that we use that. But it works great. My question here is how much more we could use from the AD in Linux. I know that if SAMBA is a domain controller, it can serve group policy files to clients. But is there anything SAMBA as a client can do with Group Policies? I am thinking things like mapping shared drive or printers. [opensuse] vfat timestamp again

Hello: I took photos with a digital camera which saves the photos to a vfat formatted sdcard. The camera's clock is set correctly according to my local time. When I mount the vfat filesystem in openSUSE 13.2 using a card reader, the timestamps the photos are 2 hours ahead. (OpenSUSE 13.2 system time is set to UTC.) Eg. timestamp shows 18:20 instead of 16:20, the time when the photo was actually taken. I find this behavior - again - unacceptable, ridiculous, and annoying. Isn't there any option with which this stupid behavior could be changed so that the filesystem times would be interpreted as the user's local time? Is this so big expectation? I would like to archive the images, and therefore the timestamps applied at mounting will be preserved. I don't want to archive wrong timestamps, because it is important when the photos were taken. I know I can look at metainfo, but it is not real a solution. What I want is changing the timestamps applied when the filesystem is mounted. Secondly when you remap sectors, it slows down the drive -- so that drive won't be within 'tolerance' for hardware RAID, so you'd need to replace the drive most likely (if you had a hot spare in the machine, it could immediately start a rebuild). Third -- RAID1 is safer than RAID6 for the same # of total disks in all cases w/same # of even spindles (need an even number for RAID1, obviously). If you only have 3 disks total, you could probably do RAID6 and it would be safer, but 1 data + 2 parity...ouch. But the 1st minimum size demonstrates the problem (and it gets worse w/more disks). With min number of spindles that will work for both: 4, RAID6 would have 2 data disks and 2 parity. while raid10 would have 2 data disks and 2 mirrors. If your failure rate is 'x', then the no-fail rate is 1-x per disk. In the raid 6, if any of the other 3 disks fail (in addition to 1st failure), the raid is toast. With a RAID10, there is only 1 disk that can cause the whole array to fail (the mirror of the one that went bad). If you get a 2nd fail on another pair, you can still rebuild. With only 1 disk "exposed" on RAID10, the % chance of the whole RAID failing is the %chance of 1 disk failing. However, w/raid6, there are 3 disks that are critical to rebuild the bad one -- their "no fail case is (1 - x)**3. I.e. say it was a 1% fail, 99% nofail. In RAID10 chances of whole RAID being safe would be 99% (the no fail rate for the 1 partner of the one that failed). In RAID 6, though it's .99**3 -- or .970. In that best case RAID6 has 3x the 'total fail' chances as the RAID10's. If you have 8 total spindles (6 data/2parity for raid6 vs. 4data+4mirror for raid10), then 1 disk goes. For RAID10, the total fail case only happens if the failed-drive's pair go's so it's still 99% chance of not failing. Vs. RAID6, .99**7 == .932) -- or a almost a 7% chance of a total fail vs. RAID10's 1% chance. The next point up is moving from 512-byte sect disks to 4k... It takes less space for a more power ECC on 4k than the one on 512: (from a Hitachi brief:) .... [opensuse] html5 player of youtube says "An error has occured" on chromium

Videos play fine on Firefox using HTML5 player of youtube.com, but the same videos give "an error has occured" on my chromium 43.0.2357.65-29.1. System is OpenSUSE 13.2, 64bit x86. Not a single video on chromium plays, e.g. youtube.com, lynda.com, presto.com.au, netflix.com.... There are no technical information besides the for-mago message "An error has occured". Strange enough, youtube.com/html5 on chromium says I have everything supported, 6 tickes all ticked. While youtube.com/html5 on Firefox says I have only 2 tickes of the 6 ticked: "HTML Video Element", and "WebM", Yet, Firefox perform okay when chromium can't. Why? I would like to code on the LXQt project. So I checked out their code and walked my way through the cmake. Currently I am trying to compile lxqt-config. Running cmake and seeing what libs I need to install, so far I installed: libqt5widgets-devel libQt5DBus-devel libQt5xml-devel libQt5concurrent-devel libqt5-qtx11extras-devel libqt5-linguist-devel liblxqt-devel Now cmake is asking for FindKF5WindowSystem, exact message: CMake Error at /usr/share/cmake/lxqt/lxqt_use.cmake:62 (find_package): By not providing "FindKF5WindowSystem.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "KF5WindowSystem", but CMake did not find one. Could not find a package configuration file provided by "KF5WindowSystem" with any of the following names: KF5WindowSystemConfig.cmake kf5windowsystem-config.cmake zypper told me libKF5WindowSystem5 is already installed and i dont see a libKF5WindowSystem5-devel package for this one, no idea why. Why is there not devel package for this?
