[opensuse] Adding folders to "locations"

[opensuse] Perplexing networking issue

I have 2 computers running opensuse 13.1. One is 32 bit, one is 64 bit. Both are running KDE4. Both are using Asus "USB-N13 wireless N300 adapter" System is using ifup, not network manager for network control The Asus nic was selected based on the Linux compatability website which said basically, "no issues". Well, that ain't quite true. Occasionally, from a few minutes to a day or so, the networking (routing?) quits. No other indications other than it takes way too long for a website to respond, then I do a ping to anywhere which fails. Then I (as root) do systemctl restart network.service which makes everything ok again (for a while). That is the x86_64 box. The 32bit box's networking is noteworthy if it runs for an hour without stopping. Ok, by now it looks very much like it is the Asus hardware. Or is it? The 32bit system is an Athlon 64/3200 (IIRC) and the x86_64 is an I5 so it would appear that there are enough hardware differences between those 2 boxes to eliminate all but maybe the USB subsystems The nic is using the rtl8192cu module. The 32bit box previously was using a PCI wireless card which was really old... ACX111, I think. It could not do the encryption that the ISP's equipment requires, hence the change. Anyone have a clue as to what would cause this type of intermittent stopping of the networking? Or how to correct it? Would there be a difference between the ifup and networkmanager? I haven't tested that yet. Why would there be such a noticeable difference between the problem occurrence in the 32bit box vs the x86_64? The x86_64 box is a mini-itx with only USB expansion available and it works good enough to keep me from smashing the USB NIC to bits but the other box is most frustrating. [opensuse] 13.2 & Firefox intermittent 'stalling' with excessive cpu

Hi All, This one has me really pulling my hair out. It started a couple of updates back and it hasn't improved since. I can be left waiting several seconds, up to 20 or 30 seconds or even more, when I close tabs, open new tabs, open new windows and close those windows. Because I keep several logged in sessions going at once and I 'context switch' like this many, many times throughout the day, these delays are badly impacting my work. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't added anything new to the mix, just installed the normal updates. [opensuse] ip6?tables and ipv[46] addresses ?

AFAICT, iptables and ip6tables operate on two separate tables, one for ipv4 and one for ipv6? Certainly, when I list the tables, the contents are different. It seems to me that 'iptables' ought to work with both of these formats: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s 192.168.77.77 -j DROP iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s ::ffff:192.168.77.77 -j DROP The latter format is not recognised by iptables. [opensuse] postfix config file constantly being reset, probably during updates and patches via zypper, how to protect postfix config?

Hello, from time to time I observed in the recent years that somewhen my small postfix mailserver stopped functioning and delivering to a simple external smarthost ip address for a single domain. Very simple setup. At these times I observed that the postfix config file main.cf had a rather current date and settings like networking interfaces postfix would listen on, smarthost ip address and domain name and such were missing from it. I was kind of thinking to directly edit this main.cf file and put my stuff in there, but meanwhile I wonder if suse has a different approach and where to put my config stuff that during updates and patches even with rewriting main.cf file by some suse mechanism, the proper info gets put in and stays in. [opensuse] Raspberry Pi and /proc/cpuinfo

Hi, I run into a problem with my RasPi Model B+ V1.2 with openSuse 13.2. I type: raspi:~ # cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 model name : ARMv6-compatible processor rev 7 (v6l) Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp java tls CPU implementer : 0x41 CPU architecture: 7 CPU variant : 0x0 CPU part : 0xb76 CPU revision : 7 Hardware : BCM2835 Revision : 0000 Serial : 0000000000000000 From serveral other sources I heard that Hardware should be BCM2708, Revision 0010 and there should be a valid serial number. The same hardware with raspbian says: Hardware : BCM2708 Revision : 0010 Serial : 00000000c2c2clcfbb The problem is that many libs are looking into this information to determine what type of raspi they are running on. [opensuse] More troubles on a Suse box (frame buffer driver failure)

I now have a second Suse box that is refusing to start properly. I used Yast to do an online update (opensuse 13.2), and it gave me a message that one of the updates required a reboot. I thus tried to reboot, but it failed to start properly. Instead I get a fatal error about xgifb. The first ststaement I see is that it complains that it is unable to request memory, size 2000000. The next, which it flags as fatal, sayy it is unable to reserve frame buffer memory and it asks if there is another frame buffer driver active. Now, on this machine, I can get to a repair 'desktop', which seems to be comprised of a command shell (maybe bash? sh?) But I have no idea what to do, what commands to submit, in order to fix this thing. Can someone advise on what to try, and what documentation to look at? I am feeling rather hamstrung as I am a programmer, not a system administrator or computer repair tech.
