I dislike the cumbersome uuid notion and rather use label, but beside that, has anybody seen this in conjunction of systemd? It does not matter if some or all modules are compiled into the kernel, the result is always the same. Again, any suggestion? [opensuse] checkinstall doesn't work

I installed checkinstall package from http://software.opensuse.org/package/checkinstall?search_term=checkinstall Then I tried to make rpm package for the libiconv-1.14.tar.gz. [opensuse] How do I fix a startup error in which the bios(?) reports an absence of a bootable device

This happened today. The machine in question is running OpenSuse 13.2, on a decent sized SSD. The only symptom I can document is that once I try to boot the machine, I se the usual items flash by as the bios runs through the boot sequence, until the point where the drive from which the system is supposed to boot is sought, and at that point, I get a message complaining that no bootable device was found and asking that I connect a bootable device or insertt an optical disk from which I can boot, and then press a button to proceed. This morning, the city in which I live experienced a power failure. While all my systems are protected by two surge suppressors (one on the mains, before power enters the building's power panel, and the other is a device into which my computers are plugged. Alas, the 'UPS' was inadequate to keep all the machines running until the power was restored. Only this one machine (the workstation on which I work developing computer programs) is affected. None of the others (about 6 in all) have any indication of a problem. First question is, what is the likelihood that there is physical damage to the SSD? Second, what would be the steps to try to restore this machine? I know, in a worst case scenario, I can buy another SSD, install the latest and greatest release of OpenSuse, but first I need to see if I can fix this. I really do not want to lose the data I have on that drive. Can you point me to a few of your favourite web pages that deal with this specific problem? [opensuse] iimap server missing in kmail

I've set up dovecot as my mail server and have created an imap account for it. However, kmail only shows the local folder and not the imap server. Does anyone know what's going on? [opensuse] A systemd service file question

I'm trying to get 2 reverse tunnels setup via autossh. There is a autossh.service file in the autossh package but it only setups one tunnel. This is the template service file that ships in the RPM. =============================== [Unit] Description=AutoSSH service for port 2222 After=network.target [Service] Environment="AUTOSSH_GATETIME=0" ExecStart=/usr/bin/autossh -M 0 -NL 2222:localhost:2222 -o TCPKeepAlive=yes foo(a)bar.com [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target ================================== I need to call autossh twice. Should I just create 2 separate service files? Or can I have 2 ExecStart lines? openSUSE Tumbleweed 20150425 3.19.4-1-desktop The last three or four days my apc ups unit displays network error and asking systemctl reveals it has failed to start, "Unable to create UPS lock file.". Masaru, checkinstall is a very, very ancient package for creating rpm from .tar.gz files. [opensuse] Successor for former powersave package?

In older openSUSE and SLES versions there was a package called "powersave": https://www.suse.com/documentation/sles10/book_sle_reference/data/sec_power… Especially the schema settings were useful, if an admin wanted to enable some powersaving features without detailed configuration. An example: /etc/sysconfig/powersave/common: AC_SCHEME="performance" BATTERY_SCHEME="powersave" Is there any good alternative for this package, especially for computers without a GUI? The package is gone. I already know the Powertop tool which does a good job, but it's interactive.
