Someone just gave me a hand-me-down iphone 3. A quick search at opensuse.org didn't turn up much. Can someone kindly point me to what software etc. can be user for an iphone. I note from the manual that you need to download itunes to register but there is no download for Linux. I haven't got an account yet but I want to get started. Is there a way to get to the apps and itune stores? [opensuse] Thunderbird wants to encrypt

I have Thunderbird with Enigmail installed. One thing I've noticed recently is that Thunderbird will often encrypt an email, even though encryption is not enabled. It also somehow manages to encrypt email to an address for which no public key exists! How is this even possible, when that key must be used to encrypt? This is a very recent development, so I suspect update is causing the problem. [opensuse] building 13.2 server, network's won't come up, get "wicked: cannot get dbus system bus handle" errors

I installed, and having been workingon configuring, a new 13.2 server. After a number of zypper updates some work in grub2, and no-errors in either grub2-mkconfig or mkinitrd, on reboot, I now get no network up at all. I get messages about : wicked: cannot get dbus system bus handle failed to connect to socket /run/dbus /run/dbus/system_bus_socket I don't have serial console up yet -- haven't gotten that figured out in grub2 yet. In journalctl I don't see anything that suggests a problem. But I'm not sure what I'm looking for. >From reading IIUC 'wicked' is a new, opensuse-only networking stack. Looks like it has its share of problems. I can't find any posts about this specific error, or any docs. [opensuse] No /etc/sysconfig/kernel installed in 13.2. Where did those settings go?

I just installed openSUSE 13.2 Reading posts & docs I find out that adding modules to be loaded on boot to the initrd used to be done with a MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT= line in /etc/sysconfig/kernel. The docs at https://activedoc.opensuse.org/book/opensuse-reference/chapter-7-booting-a-… says that's still true. On this brand new 13.2 install that file, /etc/sysconfig/kernel, does not exist. This post, http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.suse.opensuse.devel/59708, suggests that it's no longer used since 13.1 but instead you use /etc/modules-load.d/MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT. Which is correct? In addition to MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT=, /etc/sysconfig/kernel contained INITRD_MODULES= DOMU_INITRD_MODULES= ACPI_DSDT= SKIP_RUNNING_KERNEL= NO_KMS_IN_INITRD= Where are those setting managed now? [opensuse] Eth interface has no static ipv4 assigned and usable when there is no link during interface upbringing?

Hello. Some machine today had power problems of an attached ethernet switch, and the ethx interface of the 13.2 x64 machine only had some ipv6 linklocal or so address assigned even when the switch came back. There used to be commands such as rcnetwork restart ethx I am unsure if this is because of some lackings of wicked components that there is this odd behavior. I also tried wicked ifreload or similar commands but I couldnt make it to restart reinitialise the network interface that had problem. Can I not set an ip address without the actual network cord being plugged in and having an ethernet link with a partner ethernet device? I can remember older Suse versions where I never had such problems. At the end I needed to reboot the whole machine just to have that ipv4 address on that interface again working. [opensuse] Crashing after restart

Earlier I wrote: On my E-machine I had installed a TP link N900 wireless dual band PCI express adapter TL-WDN 4800 version 1.3 I installed Tumbleweed 20150227 and after the restart it worked untill the blue K appeared, and crashed. I deleted, in Windows, the / partition and the /home partition and installed a fresh burned Tumbleweed 20150227 with the same results. Then I repeated this procedure with 13.2, with the same results. I must say that I skipped in the installation procedure to configure the AR9300Wireless LAN adapter because I expected that to be done automaticly by Network Manager. If that is the clue of the crashes I would like to know where I can find a detailed instruction how to do that. Some help please! I was in the situation to connect an ethernetcable I did a fresh install with Tumbleweed 20150312 which, after the automatic restart, which stopped at the same point. I could run Firefox, Online Help, LibreOffice and Kinfocenter (which indicated that even 20150316 was installed. But I could not install the default Panel!! Today I did an upgrade with 20150318 which stopped at the same place, but I could choose 'Desktop Icons' and tried to add a panel. Nothing happened!! Any Idea how to solve this situation? I am using the version of gftp that is a component of 3.2. When try to access the opensuse source at: http://download.opensuse.org /source/distribution/13.2/repo/oss/suse/src I receive a directory listing, with some file lengths listed as zero. When I try to download the files using HTTP I get: HTTP/1.1 302 Found Date: Wed, 18 Feb 2015 23:21:32 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.12 (Linux/SUSE) X-Prefix: 71.228.144.0/20 X-AS: 33653 X-MirrorBrain-Mirror: suse.mobile-central.org X-MirrorBrain-Realm: country Location: http://suse.mobile-central.org/source/distribution/13.2/repo/oss/suse/src/z… Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Disconnecting from site download.opensuse.org Error: Remote site download.opensuse.org disconnected. Max retries reached...giving up I have not done this in awhile, and it used to be from ftp sites. Can you help me with what I am doing wrong? Is it because the file content is not text? [opensuse] How to set FQDN such that no DNS lookup is performed by hostname -f?

Hi, I try to set a hostname on opensuse 13.2 in a way, that it is - preserved over reboots - hostname -s and hostname -f give answers based on what I set and don't ask DNS What I tried so far: My host is called pc.foo. I use a static IP setup. I put pc.foo in /etc/hostname (=/etc/HOSTNAME) Then hostname -s gives me 'pc', but hostname -f does a dns lookup for pc, which in my network resolves to pc.bar, because 'bar' is in my NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST. What works is to run 'hostname pc.foo' at boot. But there must be a nicer way to tell wicked which hostname to use. In my opinion it should respect /etc/hostname. Also I don't want to put entries in /etc/hosts as I use a central hosts list in our network where "pc" maps to pc.bar, which should be no issue as long as by machine knows it is pc.foo. Am I missing something? [opensuse] No more verbose messages from journal replay at boot

Hello, due to some complete freezes (still trying to find out...) I had to restart the computer without proper shutdown. In this case reiserfs makes a check and replays the journal. This also happened this time as I can see in the log, but while doing it, I don't see the typical messages "replayed... " anymore. Instead the cursor stays below "started the System check on dev/..." while obviously the journal is replayed. I miss the verbose output of the reiserfs disk check, because this way "nothing" is going on on my screen and I don't know if the boot process has stopped or if it's going on... How can I have those verbose messages back? OS 13.2, all recent updates done. Thanks for hints.
