Hi, This is an announcement for those of you using darktable from graphics repo or factory repo. There will be some changes in how darktable uses thumbnail cache files. If you encounter problems with this release please use bugzilla to report any findings. Because compression code is disabled previous cache may not work. Removing ~/.cache/darktable/mipmaps is necessary If you are not using graphics repo then you are not affected (yet). Factory repo takes time to get included but you can factory version from graphics. Hello, I just tried to get some tool monitoring the actual CPU speed. SuSE 12.1, 64Bit has "cpupower" on the DVD. cpupower frequency-info analyzing CPU 0: driver: acpi-cpufreq CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 1 2 3 CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0 maximum transition latency: 10.0 us. hardware limits: 1.60 GHz - 3.30 GHz available frequency steps: 3.30 GHz, 3.30 GHz, 3.20 GHz, 3.10 GHz, 2.90 GHz, 2.80 GHz, 2.70 GHz, 2.60 GHz, 2.40 GHz, 2.30 GHz, 2.20 GHz, 2.10 GHz, 2.00 GHz, 1.80 GHz, 1.70 GHz, 1.60 GHz available cpufreq governors: conservative, userspace, powersave, ondemand, performance current policy: frequency should be within 1.60 GHz and 3.30 GHz. The governor "ondemand" may decide which speed to use within this range. current CPU frequency is 1.60 GHz (asserted by call to hardware). boost state support: Supported: no Active: no So current CPU frequency is 1.60 GHz and that is ok. When doing intensive work it goes up to 3.3GHz which is expected. But what does " boost state support: Supported: no Active: no" mean? Can I turn this on under SuSE? Processor is a Intel 2500K. Is there some graphical tool to monitor the CPU speed? I'm trying to login to my linux box using a remote-desktop session from windows. It connects and lets me sign in to a sesman-Xvnc or sesmanXrdp .. but both get errors after login and disconnect and take me back to the "Login to xrdp" GUI running on the linux box -- i.e. I'm connecting to xrdp, but it isn't starting any sessions or desktops... [opensuse] Shotwell refuses to import videos from my camera or folder on HD or card.

First I was using the shotwell version in 12.3, it absolutely failed to import anything from anywhere. I had to abort several times. I had to update to the version in gnome:apps, version 0.14.1. I had to remove everything from the Pictures photo, plus all of /home/cer/.cache/shotwell and /home/cer/.local/share/shotwell, to force it to rescan the photos. Then I addded back all the photos in their folders to /home/cer/Pictures and started Shotwell. It recognized all the photos... except those two videos. They are in the same folder as some photos from this June; the photos it sees, not those two videos. So I delete all the June month events, and tell Showtwell to import from camera again. It imports the photos, and says the videos are repeated! And refuses to import them. I see the two videos in the "no event" entry. I select them, click "create event". It does... And labels them "Undated"! In fact, ALL my videos are in the "No event" entry! WHY? How can I put them on the correct date? Or force the damm thing to import them even if repeated? Or delete the entire database to force it to import ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING? I can not edit those "no event" to move them to the proper event, even if I have to do that one by damm one. They are in the same /YEAR/MONTH/ folder structure as the rest... why can not it see them? Needless to say, this works with Gnome 2 in oS 11.4, same camera and photos and videos. I'm using XFCE in 12.3. I hate updating software, things break, instead of getting better :-/ - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. [opensuse] intel HD Graphics 4600 and such

We are putting together some new systems that should run openSUSE 12.1 and newer. (EOL on 12.1 I know...) Typically we have used Nvidia graphics cards. ATI are not popular here. Many of the systems we are considering use intel CPUs that include graphics hardware. Such as intel HD Graphics 4600 (on the intel Core i7 4770). So we thought we should investigate the status of this hardware. I started with http://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Video but that is very much out of date. Perhaps there is a better place with this information? We are not doing games. But we do use X's shared memory interface to show images as fast as possible. KDE does have it's bits that benefit from 3D hardware. Is anyone using intel graphics like this? Any stories / experiences / cautions to share? [opensuse] Screensaver not working correctly

My screensaver on 12.3 no longer goes into "Energy Saving" mode. It shows the screensaver and after the set time it blanks but doesn't go completely black. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 2433bw and the video card is an nVidia GeForce GTS 450. Hi all, I'm experimenting with automated installation, and i noticed that when adding aditional repositories during installation, that information is not stored when asking for an autoinstall.xml at the end of the installation. I tried both with 12.1 and 12.2 Furthermore i also tried to generate the xml-file after installation, through yast. Configfiles are created with content, but whatever i do, the settings of add-on repo's are ommited. This implies that a re-installation, based on that XML is not possible, as packages (only available from the add-on's) are not available.... Is this known / intentionally??? This used to work in older versions, as i used it quite often to create my own xml-files. According to answer #2, I have "pam_apparmor installed, but not configured". Well, I installed the apparmour pattern, I didn't install that module myself, so it has the default configuration. I'm starting a fresh thread following some comments I posted recently in http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2013-05/msg00791.html I don't want to keep hijacking that as my own issue isn't strictly related. I'm trying to resolve long-running radeon issues (a laptop with a Mobility Radeon 9700, based off the 9600, RV350), going back to around the introduction of KMS in openSUSE 11.3 (i.e. years ago). On fresh installs of all openSUSE versions since then, things run fine for maybe a few days, then I get an issue where the screen momentarily blanks and comes back but everything's frozen. Occasionally other weird artefacts like the whole display gradually changing to rainbow vertical lines occurs. Only a Magic Keys reboot can get me out. Effectively, after it has crashed the first time, subsequent reboots usually result in the same happening again much sooner, as though there's some corruption in memory somewhere. Under this openSUSE 12.3 release I noted it was sometimes triggered when attempting keyboard input in a particular place such as in a web page text entry field or a simple text file, but over the years it could also just happen randomly at any moment. I can confirm it isn't likely to be a faulty card as I experienced exactly the same issues on a very different desktop system that had a radeon 9600 AGP card. In all cases I'm using the default 'radeon' driver pre-selected at install, since the ATI proprietary driver support for this card was dropped years ago. The only workaround I've ever found is to disable hardware acceleration in the 50-device.conf file. On 2013-05-30 10:09:26 -0400, Felix Miata wrote: > Exactly how? Release Notes entries about radeon driver issues going back to the introduction of KMS mention booting with 'nomodeset', but I'm unable to do that since it hangs prior to the login screen (the 'Reached Target Graphical Interface [OK] part). Does booting with 'nomodeset' effectively switch to vesa or a non-radeon driver, or are the two things not inter-related? Thinking this may be KMS related I followed some advice to change the sysconfig entry 'NO_KMS_IN_INITRD' to 'yes'. Doing this in YaST appeared to automatically run mkinitrd afterwards. I then rebooted. The boot sequence was slightly different with a longer period of blank screen but the login screen than arrives as usual. I've rebooted a couple of times like this without issue, until today. It crashed just after login, before all services were finished loading. Whilst the screen froze and the cursor disappeared the HD was still chugging away loading services and trying Ctrl-Esc in KDE made the HD busy for a moment but no task manager appeared on screen. I tried Ctrl-Alt-F8 and just got a blinking cursor. Going back to Ctrl-Alt-F7 I got a blank screen with a moveable mouse cursor. Ctrl-Alt-2xBackspc got me back to a login from where I'm now back in KDE. I wasn't watching the boot sequence but the xorg log file suggests it booted with KMS, despite my changing the setting, so I'm puzzled. The log file may give other clues to what's up: http://paste.opensuse.org/17295823 I've started and contributed to various forum posts about this over the years but they all went stale and none of the suggestions helped. I've noticed sometimes it takes a long time for my ThinkPad E520 to reboot when running openSUSE 12.3. When this occurs and I press Esc, I see the following displayed for a couple of minutes or so before it progresses. I recently did a fresh install of OpenSuse 12.3_x64 on one of my user's HP UEFI 64bit machines - the install went smoothly, the 1Tb disk was setup as GPT. How can I set the default runlevel in openSUSE 12.3 ? OK, it's called target now but YAST shows an empty dropdown list in the expert-view of the service manager where one used to chose the default runlevel. According to the documentation this is still the right place to look. I have KDE installed but most of the time I don't need all this graphical goodness so it's a waste of ressources. SOME and I emphasise ONLY SOME sites that have flash end up with Error #2046 I don't have this problem with YouTube, but I do have it with engage.vevent.com Yes I've googled and none of the articles I've found ave anything that solves this. I'm using Firefox 21.0 on openSuse 12.2 but this problem has been there for some time and many revisions of FF. Does anyone have first-hand experience of dealing with this in the context of suse? -- I love deadlines. I've documented the issues I've had and, apart from some hardware issues and the usuall hassle with xorg.conf which this forum has helped with, .... it works.
