[opensuse] VirtualBox : move out from /home directory

[opensuse] Controlling Dolphin Cache size

Recently I noticed my /tmp was growing rather huge. Dolphin caches in /tmp/kde-{username} and digging around I found that I had multiple occurrences of directories that I had deleted from my /home/{user}, each one over 5gig, containing music from several CDs that I had ripped mere days ago. I cleaned these out and tried to reproduce their creation. Ripping didn't cause them to appear. But deleting (move to trash) the directory where the ripped mp3 files were stored caused multiple directories to appear: /tmp/kde-{username}/dolphinxxnnnn.tmp, each with a separate copy of each mp3. Emptying the Trash did not remove these. (in fact it creates another one where the xx portion of name differs). Logging out and back in again did not remove these. Shutdown and reboot didn't clear these either. Copy each of these directories to trash and empty trash, and they re-appear in /tmp/kde-{username} again!!! Further, these directories have the wrong permissions. (world readable) but the individual files inside have correct permissions. What causes this behavior? [opensuse] Printer no longer works

I have a Dell 1110 laser printer which has worked well until I installed openSUSE 12.3. It used to use a foomatic driver, but that no longer appears to be available. [opensuse] Fwd: Configurations are not being saved

Hi, I am using opensuse 12.3 with kde and two monitors and having the following problems from about a month ago (no issues before that): i) Everytime I log in, the systems forgets of my configuration on two monitors with different images. Hence, just after log in I have to go to "configure desktop" / "Display and Monitor" and change the configuration of the second monitor to "Position: Left of " instead of " Clone of". No matter if latter I select "Save as default" or not. ii) Some bugs with the KDE interface are happening. In particular, eventually the computer becomes unresponsive for some seconds. I am working on a workstation with six cores xeon @ more than 3 GHz, hence it's not lack of resources. iii) I noticed today that an update on the nvidea driver was done. Anyway, even after restarting I noticed no changes. iv) I tried to work during some time (some hours) with a single monitor. During that time I noticed no problems. My video card is: Nvidea Quadro 600 with two video ports. Thanks for the help. [opensuse] VLC stopped working after latest update due to lack of mpga codec

Hi all, I have a playlist file containg my favorite online radio stations and usually listen to them with VLC. A few days ago after some update it stopped working, complaining about the lack of mpga codec. And it says there is nothing to do about it. [opensuse] Problem with inodes on SuSE 12.1 and /var ?

Hello, I had SuSE 10.3 installed on my laptop. Backup of /var/spool/news onto some NAS was ok. Then formatted swap (swap filesys), / (ext4 filesys) /var (ext4 filesys) in the same size it was before. No other special settings, just the ones that are given and used by yast2 and SuSE 12.1 and ext4 . Installed SuSE 12.1 which was ok. When I tried to play back /var/spool/news with all the leafnode usenet news, after some time the system said something like "No space left on device" :-( The partition has exactly the same size. With SuSE 10.3 there was no problem concerning size. Were there any changes in the filesystem structure of SuSE 12.1 and ext4, e.g. inodes or similar, which makes /var under SuSE 12.1 run full earlier? How can I solve that? Reinstall with ext3 and SuSE 12.1 ? Put /var under / and reformat /var (which might be tricky)? Hello all, How do I get the update icon in XFCE? I was using KDE and apper was installed on that and worked fine. I've installed PackageKit and pk-update-icon.
