[opensuse] Autoswitch HDMI audio

I recently had reason to connect my ThinkPad to my HDTV via HDMI cable. One thing I noticed is that I had to manually switch the audio output in Pulse Audio. [opensuse] Problems with SuSE ImageWriter?

I'm currently "remote" and only have access to Windows machines. I'm trying, unsuccessfully, to create a USB stick with openSUSE 12.3 using ImageWriter. Basic steps are: - Prepare the USB stick as RAW - ie define a partition, but do not format it (I've also tried formatting it as FAT32, NTFS and ext4 and running through these steps) - Launch ImageWriter as administrator - Locate the openSUSE ISO (verified the MD3 earlier) - Click Copy When I do this the copy dialog flashes on-screen and then nothing (no error messages). If I click Copy again, ImageWrite says it cannot access the device and asks if I'm sure I'm running as Admin. I've tested this on Windows 7 and Windows 8 (two different computers) with the same results. A friend of mine reported the exact same behaviour to me about a month ago when he was trying to install openSUSE. I usually use ImageWriter from openSUSE, and there it works perfectly. Has anyone else tried creating a bootable LiveCD on USB stick using ImageWriter from Windows lately? I've tried unetbootin, but getting odd/mixed results. I can write the ISO, but I can't yet get it to boot on the UEFI system I'm working on (gets caught in a loop early in the boot menu). I've also tried YUMI, but whatever it creates on the USB stick isn't even recognized by the UEFI side. Hi, I want to force Nepomuk to re index my HOME dir files. Before an update I had 80.000 files and after I have 5.000. I've deleted ALL nepomuk files from my HOME dir and relogin, but it only put ONE file in index and the indexer it's idle. Any suggestions? [opensuse] Lost my menu in LXDE

Since 4 or 5 days I have an incomplete menu in LXDE. The only choices found are accessories and games (some of the installed packages) run and logout. If I switch to Icewm I see a complete menu list with all installed packages. This LXDE is updated with zypper up. [opensuse] Sysrq on oS 12.3

Hi all, I have noticed that sysrq is disabled in oS 12.3 since /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq contains 0. The only files containing kernel.sysrq are /etc/sysctl.conf and /lib/sysctl.d/sysctl.conf so following the comment in /etc/sysctl.conf I have created /etc/sysctl.d/sysctl.conf with content kernel.sysrq = 176 After a reboot, /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq still contains 0. The only way I have found for enabling sysrq is to comment out the relative line in /etc/sysctl.conf, even if this is not the expected way. So, what is the correct way to have sysrq enabled? If this is a bug, what is the right component against which to file the bug report? [opensuse] Lost ability to play a TS file.

I seem to have lost the ability to play a TS file direct from a PVR (Topfield 2400) I could do this a while back in VLC (and Kaffeine, I believe), but was having issues playing radio streams from the net, through Amarok. Read that a fix for this was to install VLC from the videolan repo. Did this, and it fixed that problem, but obviously broke my ability to play TS files. Have now reverted back and am running VLC V2.0.6-117.1 from pacman (streams still seem to be playing), but still can't play TS files - if I convert them to something else, all is good. As soon as version transitions is completed it will work again. Most probably it will be ready on openSUSE 13.1 release. Doing a GStreamer version downgrade from 1.0 to 0.10 will fix it but could make other applications having a hard time too. So waiting for next release is wisely advise. In the meantime, if anyone feels imperiously driven to get similar functionality consider to install Banshee Media Player. It has a Miro light instance nof affected by version transitions already above written. Hope this help someone.
