Hi, Hope you must have been aware of kde-services at http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/?content=147065 If I try to install it with zypper, some dependency problem is displayed. Would some developer be kind enough to make this package for opensuse? It seems to be an useful program and lots of users may be benefited. Thanks in advance. [opensuse] weird permission prob w/oocalc

openSUSE Tumbleweed libreoffice-calc-4.1.3.2-4.2.x86_64 Weird thing happened on the way to the office today! For quite a few years I have been editing a remote spreadsheed with oocalc over nfs. This afternoon I began getting notice that the file was locked by "unknown user" and I could open a copy or ... But I am unable to save the file back to it's correct location (over nfs). I can open the same file with gnumeric, edit and save it. What has happened to libreoffice-calc? Reinstalling the entire libreoffice package made no difference. [opensuse] Samsung Printer

OK, I'm going crazy. I bought a Samsung SCX-4826FN B&W laser printer a few years ago that has always given me fits. After a lot of experimentation, I got it going by installing the Linux drivers from the Samsung support site. A couple months ago I moved and the computer I had it hooked to (12.2) sat for a while because I needed to buy a computer desk. When I got one and set everything up, I couldn't get the printer to work properly no matter what I tried that worked in the past. I've used the Samsung setup to remove and install the drivers and printer several times and generally get the same results: The printer is recognized and setup. Printing to the printer the printer acts like it is going to print. Sometimes the printer just blinks and does nothing else. Sometimes after a new setup, it actually prints, but it prints out raw Postscript. I'm so desperate that if I can't get this working really fast, I'll have to buy another printer because I have some extremely important documents to print out, and will continue to need to be able to do so. I'm disabled, so buying another printer is not a good option. I'm not even sure what logs to include to help, but I will be happy to provide them. I see on Google searches that there are other drivers, and 12.2 does include them automatically, but I can't find any instructions online for using them. What concerns me most is that, aside from needing an occasional reboot when the printer started malfunctioning, it was working fine (except that model jams way too easy. I would never buy another Samsung unless I read reliable reports that it works well with Linux). I also see that a lot of people have a lot of problems with Samsung printers, including this one specifically. [opensuse] Tbird 24, lines disappear when editing (still there, just blank) -- confirm

All, When editing in tbird 24, I often have lines that just disappear in paragraphs. Usually just one line in a 8 line paragraph or so. All the text is still there, it is just displayed white-on-white, etc.. Moving focus off the edit window forces a redraw and the lines are visible again. Attempting a screenshot forces a redraw as well. Can anyone else confirm seeing this? I'll report it, but I want to make sure this isn't a hardware/driver issue before I do. Thanks. -- David C. All, After searching, I have found a way to turn off the flashing green arrow in userChrome.css. For those similarly affected, you need to add the following to your ~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile>/chrome/userChrome.css file: /* * Turn off flashing green download arrow splash: */ @namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul); #downloads-indicator-notification { display: none !important } This looks highly unprofessional in a business setting such as a presentation or in court. No professional needs the display looking like a circus with each click of the mouse during a presentation. I know this is a mozilla issue, but it is worth keeping in mind for all developers. When this 'cutesie' stuff is added, for goodness sake, create a simple check-box that allows the user to turn this stuff off -- without having to waste time to find out how to hack css files to get rid of this unwanted fluff. Interfaces should be clean, functional and unintrusive. Remember, a new feature is a BUG if it cannot be turned off. Hopefully there are not too many more of these in firefox or thunderbird... -- David C. [opensuse] Yast, Grub boot loader editing malfunction

When using the boot loader editing of Grub in Yast from my tumbleweed 13.1 I found that re-arranging the menu is not functioning well. I can only move menu items down. Up does not work at my system. [opensuse] How to mask a blank in the password in /etc/samba/cifstab ?

Hi OpenSuse 13.1 64bit I'd like to mount a windows share with the cifs deamon instead of /etc/fstab. The problem seems to be that there is a space in the password of the remote share. In /etc/fstab one can mask spaces with \040. That way I can mount the share but I don't want to expose the password to anyone that can read /etc/fstab. I tried the same in /etc/samba/cifstab but cifs won't start. I tried to put the password in "" and ''. Either /etc/init.d/cifs status dumps some commandline parameter or it reports a permission denied for this share. cifs stays "unused" I tried another useraccount on the windiows-box that has a password without space.
