[opensuse] Problems with Thunderbird 24 - IMAP - freeze on folder change

Hi, I recently upgraded from 12.1 to 12.3 with Thunderbird 24 and since then, TB is locking up every few minutes. Whenever a new mail comes in to some folder and I change folders and select the new message, the new message is not displayed. I get a "waiting" mouse cursor and nothing happens. If I go to another folder then, messages which were already there, are displayed or not (couldn't recognize any pattern). When I close the TB window, a "thunderbird-bin" process remains active in the process list. The mail server is a Cyrus IMAP server on a different physical machine in the same subnet. The IMAP server's logs don't show any suspicious entries. Access to the server with other clients works without problems. I need to use TB because it's apparently the only Linux MUA which supports smart cards via OpenSC. I just played with the Live CD of KDE PCLOS and just want to say that the feel during the boot was quite normal as was with openSUSE (when I first saw). Now after choosing the language I went with the Live CD option and now arrived at the desktop. There were three or four icons on it and the default password of guest was 'guest' and of root was 'root'. I saw just wandered here and there in the system and saw many apps. Also when I suddenly went to some other application by closing one app and doing this randomly, a possible "hang" was observed and found enough delay during the process. These parts was comparatively less in openSUSE. It gave me a feel and openSUSE is more resourceful by default and a heavy desktop than PCLOS, openSUSE has more apps. Finally it was a pretty nice experience but right now I have planned to stick with openSUSE and use it for my work --- for whatever reasons, though I have joined their fourms too like you, to just have an eye about the things which I can understand. [opensuse] KDE smartcard login - FINeID

Hi, since a couple of years, I'm a proud owner of a Finnish Electronic Identification Card (FINeID) which I now finally got to run with Firefox and Thunderbird using the OpenSC security device. So I can actually sign emails and use it for web authentication. Configuration was even pretty straightforward. In the next step, I'd like to use the card for login in to KDE and to automatically lock the screen when I pull the card out of the reader. I have googled my fingers raw but I haven't found any straightforward solution for that. I noticed that some guy opened a bug for PKCS#11 auth in KDE in 2005 (yeah, 8 years ago). I can't believe that there hasn't been any progress with that, especially, as smartcards become more and more popular as ID cards from different issuers. [opensuse] Cannot login to KDE 4.11.2

Hi all, Today I tried to upgrade to KDE 4.11.2 from 4.10.5. All went smooth, but I cannot login back to KDE. There is no problem with Xfce login. I removed .kde and .kde4 directories, but to no avail. Any hints are welcome. I have oS 12.2 installed. Earlier there was no problem on 12.3 on another box. [opensuse] GPT labels : disk identification & sizing

Hi, all -- I have finally gotten my two new 4T disks to be recognized under a Studio build; yay :-) Thanks for the pointers over to those resources. I'm still fine-tuning, but the wonderful thing is that all I have to do is write to a new uSD card and reboot, so I'll be able to play with that once things are back together. Now it's time to build the system and start consolidating data. I have questions about identification and sizing, though. Since I'll have two generally identical disks in here, I'd like to know easily which one has a problem if that ever comes up, so I thought I'd include the serial no in the disk label so that /dev/disk/by-id and/or /dev/disk/by-uuid shows me (and then I'd mount by the ID rather than the traditional bus device, of course). But I don't see how to set the disk identification in parted. Did I miss something? If that doesn't work out, I could fall back to partition labeling, which I *was* able to accomplish under parted and which does properly display in /dev/disk/by-partlabel (although not in by-partuuid; can I force that?) even though it then shows up as /dev/sda1 in df output. [Well, I guess that could be acceptable, too, since I'd have the actual device info in the fstab.] Next, sizing. Back in the fdisk days I could see how many cylinders were [supposedly :-] on a disk and use 'em all; apparently under parted I have to specify an offset and size for my new partition. The offset is 0, so that one is easy :-) How do I find the end of the disk more closely than 4TB or 4000GB, though, so that I use it all, other than perhaps by trial and error? Another thing I have done in the past is slice off a couple of cylinders at the end of the disk in which to store info about that device (see my mirroring email next). Yes, the mailings lists are really helpful and I also get to know the other great way of help which is the openSUSE forums. I would also see the PCLOS forum since Linux is Linux. Frankly speaking Greg, I am new to Linux, I mailed not to one or two but in fact to some seven people who mailed in the lists (after reading their mails here which were found to be very good). I was to contact even more people but before that this mail came for which I thank because now the picture is clear that small (and may be **silly**) queries can be asked here....Yes some questions are quite easy which I was afraid to ask here....But now, I guess you are true that many people can comment in a commonplace and can let know the issue(s) in a much better way and that's why the mailing lists are for....!! Further I would like to share, most of the responses say that openSUSE is really better distribution to be used when compared with the counterpart distributions.
