[opensuse] Gnome 3.2.1 Freezing

I'm having a problem with Gnome 3.2.1 freezing, on average once a day. I have been unable to figure out why or how to reproduce the problem in a predictable manner. It just happens when I'm interacting with the computer; Sometimes when I launch an application, sometimes when I'm in 'Activities' view... no apparent common denominator. When this happens, the Gnome desktop just freezes, with the exception of the mouse pointer - I can move it around. I can Ctrl-Alt-F1, login to a terminal, and see that my processes are still running. When I Ctrl-Alt-F7 back to my graphical desktop, it is completely black with the mouse pointer still moveable. If I'm running my VM [W7 as a VMware Player 4.0.4 guest], I can RDP to it from another computer and see that it is running fine. I can SSH to the host machine, and my SMB shares are working fine. have to remote in to properly shut down the VM, and then either 'init 3 / init 5', Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, or just issue a reboot command. I don't see anything obvious in /var/log/messages. System: openSUSE 12.1 x64 Gnome 3.2 3.1.10-1.13-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 12 13:11:31 UTC 2012 (44a489e) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux nVidia GeForce GT240, driver ver 295.59 x64 (nouveau driver does not work at all) Intel MB, Intel Core i5 CPU 661 @ 3.33 GHz x 4, 4.0 GB DDR3. I can provide more specific info if needed) This has happened for quite some time, through various kernel and nVidia driver versions. Any ideas on how I might resolve this issue? Now I have some absurd traffic values on my central server and I was looking for a tool which provides a similar traffic display because that very easily identifies bandwidth-eaters. [opensuse] System Monitor - CPU at max

I have previously mentioned the extremely poor performance of my main computer, since updating to openSUSE 12.1. On this computer, System Monitor shows CPU history solidly at 100%, only occasionally dropping. Memory and Swap shows memory at 1.5 G of 2.9 and swap at 0.04 of 8. Sometimes the computer bogs down do much that it's essentially unusable. It's a 64 bit AMD CPU & 3 GB of memory and it ran 11.0 very well. Below is a recent "top" capture showing significant amounts of CPU and memory being used by plugin-container and Xorg. I have disabled flash in Seamonkey and Firefox browsers. I have also tried both NVidia and Nouveau video drivers. I even tried turning off PAE support in the BIOS, as it's not necessary with 64 bit and also less than 4 GB of memory. Any idea as to what's causing the performance hog? What I can check? A notebook, also running 12.1, does not exhibit this behaviour. On it, Xorg is running about 3% CPU and 0.5% memory (4 GB installed). Plugin-container doesn't seem to be running on that computer. Can it be turned off? [opensuse] How to delete a symlink and the folder to which it points

Hi I have symlinks created with ln -s which point to real folders. I want to delete both the folder and the symlink which points to it. I can do it by writing a script which ls -l's the symlink and cuts out the name of the folder but. . . I wondered if there was a one liner to do that. [opensuse] LXC Ubuntu Containers Seg Fault on Starting

Hello, I'm having trouble getting LXC Ubuntu containers to configure or start correctly in OpenSuse 12.1. While I am able to create OpenSuse containers just fine using the LXC provided config scripts, any Ubuntu containers seg fault when starting. You can chroot into the container, though /proc, etc. is not available, and the container will not start via lxc-start. The examples below are for oneiric, but the same occurs for other Ubuntu releases. I've looked at /usr/lib64/lxc/templates/lxc-ubuntu and tried to run this directly (outside lxc-create) but have not been able to isolate the issue further. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone may have to help debug further. [opensuse] Automatic option synaptics driver gone from settings.

Hi, I now use 12.1 on an eeepc seashell series . I noticed that a very important option: disable pad when typing, and the time to set pad active again, are gone from the touchpad setting menu, in systemsettings. Is there a way to get that option back? You have no idea how annoying it is when you're typing, and suddenly the cursor is taken over by mouseposition. And have to copy, cut and paste the lines that are somewhere into some other teksts inserted.. After the latest zypper dup I got an update for java-1_6_0- openjdk-1.6.0.0_b24.1.11.3-6.2. The accompanying text gives me additional rpm output. I am trying to make sense of the warnings. Can somebody help me out? [opensuse] oS 12.1: DSL device are not shown in YaST configuration window

Hello: I have configured DSL internet connection in openSUSE 12.1. The network is working, but I can't modify the connection's properties as the DSL devices window in YaST is empty, that is it does not show the configured device(s). The providers window shows the configured providers normally. I would like to change the connection mode of the DSL device but I can't since there is nothing to select in the devices window. This works well in my openSUSE 11.2 system. Is this a bug in oS 12.1 or am I missing something? Is there a fix?
