Hello, on my system kernel (3.0.26) I try to determine memory resources of processes with pmap. [opensuse] Tricky spreadsheet problem, could really use some help.

I used to know spreadsheets, but I completely forgot how to use them and have been trying to retrain myself. I normally use Lotus Symphony which is based off of OpenOffice 3. I expect the behavior should be the same between Lotus and LibreOffice. I want to build a time-sheet. Sheet one has the time being tracked, and the summary sheet should sum up the values giving total money owed, and hours used on each project. Currently I have it set up on the first page with columns for the following; Date, Project, Task, Start, Stop, Subtotal, and Notes. I use the formula under 'Subtotal' to calculate the time between 'Start' and 'Stop'. That works correctly, though I do not know how to get it to apply to all of the column automatically so I don't have to manually reenter the formula each time. I anticipate the summary page will be more difficult. I want it to be able to not only give a total of hours, and the pay owed, but to be able to display what the total hours were spent on each project. I'd like it to automatically populate this list based on my entries under 'Projects.' I haven't the foggiest of conceptions on where to start on this page of the workbook. [opensuse] Hanging window manager in opensuse-12.1?

Hello everybody, I wiped my old opensuse installation and installed opensuse-12.1 with KDE from scratch with the live-cd. Since then, I sometimes have a hanging window manager. I can move the mouse around, but mouse clicks are ignored. The taskbar and the menu are dead. I can switch windows with the ALT-TAB keys and switch virtual desktops with CTRL-Fx keys, but on the new desktop, only the area covered by the windows on that new desktop is redrawn. This situation lasts about 5 to 10 minutes. After that, everything works as usual again. Any ideas what might causing this problem or how to track it down when it happens again? [opensuse] mozilla ssl/tls problem?

Normally I have no problem with https, but yesterday I tried accessing the 3ware web-service running on a storageserver, and that simply didn't work. I googled some and saw references to some possible mozilla SSL/TLS problem - I then tried opera instead, and that worked fine! Hi Folks, Background: I'm working on a box that has to record lots of data "very" reliably. The current iteration requires 4.1-TB of storage with an average write bandwidth of at least 260-MB/sec. The hardware is a 4U rack system with 24 hotswap 1-TB disks on the front, with two 1-TB internal disks. It has two LSI RAID controllers, one handles the 24 hotswap disks, the other the two internal disks configured as a RAID-1 mirror. openSuSE 12.1 is on the internal RAID. I configured the 24 data disks as two RAID-6 arrays each with 11 disks, leaving two disks for global auto-hotswap. I then configured the two arrays as a mdraid level 1 mirror. This allows for the failure of up to 15 disks, depending on which ones failed. The mdraid allows allows for on-line real-time duplication of the write data stream. It also allows for each side of the mirror to be shipped separately for physical transport reliability. I've got this configuration up and running with an average write bandwidth of about 560-MB/sec. So far, so good. Questions: I'm assuming that I can physically remove one of the RAID-6 arrays and install the disks in another (identical) chassis. An empty and uninitialized array will also be in the second chassis. Do I need to do anything with mdadm to cause the mirror on the second chassis to rebuild the empty array with the data from the first chassis? Would it be a matter of just plugging in the disks, turn on the power and step back? Or will some mdadm ju-ju be required? Will the wrong array be replicated? In case you're wondering, the next iteration will require 2-TB data disks. We also have a complete clone of the whole system to be used as a spare if necessary. This data HAS to be recorded! I realize this configuration is probably overkill, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Is there anything else I'm forgetting to consider? Thanks in advance for your opinions. [opensuse] simple data security: RAID1 or rsync?

after seeing a few threads re. RAID arrays, problems booting off them, and extra strain the surviving member of an array is put under when it has to sync a new HDD after it's (only) brother's failure, i doubt the wisdom of my original idea to set up two identical 2TB drives as RAID1 array. wouldn't it be safer (not to mention simpler) to just rsync the simple directory tree i'm concerned about to the other HDD every 15 min or so? if either of the two HDDs fails, the other one still has the important data. it's not my desktop, but a file server i'm putting together for my employer. the only thing he cares about is preserving the data in question. if or when one of the HDDs fails, there's no need to preserve the operating system or anything else. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner(a)opensuse.org
