[opensuse] Why openSUSE is less popular than Ubuntu?

[opensuse] rcvboxes start "VBOX_USER not configured" ?

Hi All, The host system is openSUSE 11.4 x86_64 GNOME, all updates I want the Virtualbox VM that I've created (it's name is "lampbox") to autosave and autostart gracefully with the host. I've enabled 'vboxes' in YAST2 System Services (Runlevel) to start in run levels 3 and 5 I've confirmed that I am a member of the "vboxusers" group. I created the file /etc/sysconfig/vbox as follows: # Virtual box machines to autostart # Example to start 2 machines # VBOX_AUTOSTART = "MachineName1 MachineName2" VBOX_AUTOSTART="lampbox" As the subject lines says, invoking 'rcvboxes start' yields this error: Starting Virtualbox machines: lampbox (user: ) Virtual machine: lampbox: VBOX_USER not configured I tried adding "VBOX_USER="carl" to /etc/sysconfig/vbox and no change What am I missing? [opensuse] Error after updating libGLEW (for Clementine)

Hi List-members, I installed Clementine from the openSUSE multimedia repository, which forced me to install libGLEW1_7 as dependency requirement, then Clementine was usable and perfectly working for awhile until I received a warning by zypper about newer libGLEW1_7, which I provided to install. After such update however Clementine stopped to work and by trying to launch it through the command-line I seen an error on a reference which seems a translation error of a particular statement in the code (my system language is Italian). The newer libGLEW package which contains the broken files/statement is: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/games/openSUSE_12.1/x86_64/libGLE… Thus I revert back to older Clementine version which uses libGLEW1_6. Thanks for any eventual comments/suggestions. [opensuse] Downwards scrolling terminal?

Hei, a long time ago I had a terminal for X that was scrolling downwards instead of upwards. I don't actually remember if I knitted this myself somehow or if I got it from somewhere. With Google I didn't find anything but I have the silent hope that somebody here know what I am talking about and actually knows where to find it. So? Anybody? [opensuse] 12.1 - konversation - no communication with IRC server after initial connection

Hi all, I lately upgraded from 11.4 to 12.1. The upgrad was a reinstall but I kept the homedirs (NFS share). Now I can't chat on freenode, opensuse and flightgear IRC servers anymore. The connection is established, I see the typical disclaimers, etc. etc. etc. and then, when I type e.g. /join #opensuse, nothing happens. After a while, konversation shows "no answer from server since ... seconds". There is no error message or any hint. Now, interesting enough, connection to Shadowfire work without problems. [opensuse] Follow-up question re nvidia/nouveau in initrd (was "Poor 12.1 Performance")

Guys, In regard to our earlier discussion re the kernel modules nouveau and/or nvidia being inside the initrd: In my 3.0.3-1-desktop initrd on 11.4, there are no video modules under /lib/modules . . . /drivers - the /gpu/drm directory is not there (where nouveau.ko is located) nor is the /video/nvidia directory (where nvidia.ko is located). I also see in dmesg that the nvidia module is loaded far down after root has been mounted and other hw modules & drivers are being loaded, just before mounting the additional file systems. So it would appear then that the boot parameter in ref to nouveau that is passed to the kernel by grub is for later use, again not having anything to do with what is in the initrd. And that the nvidia modules is being loaded somewhere during init while nouveau is in the kernel and automatically loaded unless blacklisted? (There are modprobe.d files in the initrd, but not the one blacklisting nouveau.)
