[opensuse] Unwanted autologin with no password after power failure

Howdy folks, I had a power failure here. Afterwards I powered up the machine and it came up, but failed to start the graphics, or at any rate I was at the text console -- no login screen. As root I "init 3" then "init 5" with no apparent affect. I then did "init 6". Now when the machine comes up, the login screen is bypassed and I (not root) am automatically logged on without a password. Management is less than thrilled, but nevertheless somewhat excited. Looking at the Login Manager, neither Auto-Login nor Password-Less Logins is enabled. I enabled these, saved and exited the Login Manager, and then went back in and un-enabled them, saved and exited. No difference. [opensuse] Firefox 5 is now available for v11.0/SLEx 11(for those still using older versions)

For those of us still using openSUSE 11.0(or 11.1) or SLEx 11 and having the SLEx Mozilla repo, I found that v5.0 is available as well as 3.6.18-2.1. If you use the text YaST, you don't get the option to choose which version, but the option for 3.6.18 is available in the graphical YaST. Maybe this is a little out of topic, but maybe some of you have experience with this.... What do you thing about chaining SPAM filters?, can this led to false positives faster?. [opensuse] Router? Splitter?...

Hi all, I'm looking into getting satellite internet, since all the dial-up ISP's are making it harder and harder for me to stay online the amount of time that I do (I'm disabled and being on the computer is all I have to keep myself occupied and from going insane with nothing to do). My mom will also be sharing the satellite hookup too, so we only have to pay for one modem etc. My question is: What would be best to use so that all I have to do is run a cable from her computer and one from my computer to the modem. I mean, how should I set it up so that both of us can use the same, single satellite modem? What would be best, and most importantly, easiest? Also, will our opensuse 11.3 pick up this new connection readily? Or will I have to do a bunch of cli stuff and wondering what and how to get connected? Any advice and help with this is greatly appreciated. Hi all. I am trying to remove a user from the group "users" (for reasons of access rights): in yast, I changed the default group for this user from "users" to "nogroup". [opensuse] EliteBook 8460w, openSuSE 11.4 and graphics card driver

I have been given a HP EliteBook 8460w, and I have made it dual boot with openSuSE 11.4 64-bit, but there is no working driver for the graphics card, AMD FirePro M3900 Mobility. I have visited the AMD web site looking for a driver, but they pointed me to HP, who only have drivers for SuSE Linux SLED 11 SP1 (2.6.32.12 Kernel), and having spent time on the phone with HP, they suggested getting back to AMD. Does anyone have any suggestions to get a driver for this graphics card that will run under 11.4. [opensuse] dmesg in Gui?

In former versions of Yast I remember that there was a possibility to look at the boot log, get a list of warnings, errors and lots more info in an automated way. I have the feeling that such diagnostic program is really missing because the Yast program gave nicely portioned parts of what has now to be done with dmesg and grep etc.. In my dmesg I have a lot of message lines which all start with and have all the same content. Googling gave me discussions since 2004 but no real solution. The only info somewhere was that it is: Multicast DNS, if you don't need it, disable it edit your /etc/host.conf and set mdns off For the time being I have disabled mdns but would like to find some background information. Do I need Multicast? Why does this message creeps into Linux since 2004? Whatis SFW2? Something that drops does not sound good. What drops? Somebody with answers? [opensuse] If I got SLES would my problems be solved quicker?

But it still doesn't work with broadcom. I tried to install one and ended up having to leave her with a cable. This and graphic tablets still need attention I would say. Then opesuse would be a killer. Unless you pay for a wacom and even then it doesn't work. The Samba with apparmor still doesn't work. Serious network users need networking That Works out of the box. [opensuse] Crackling sound and headphones issue

My friend has a problem with his sound, when using speakers on his rear connection all sound is making a strange crackling sound. This machine didn't have the issue under its previous operating system. Also when headphones are plugged.into the front headphones socket the sound is not turning off at the back is it possible to configure this? I have included the hardware profile below.
