[opensuse] Okular not printing correctly

I just tried several times to print a landscape-oriented black-and-white pdf document (http://www.rev-a-shelf.com/Common/FileFetch.aspx?FileName=I-5PSP15-CR-R.pdf) from Okular. I wanted to print the second of the two-page document; I tried gray-scale and color modes. The document comes out portrait, reversed black-and-white. The printer is an hpC6380, with up-to-date suse 11.4, kde 4.6.0 release 6. I've kept the default environment throughout except for Packman and vlc. Printing the same document from Firefox in my wife's xp on a different computer results in a perfect page. Any ideas? [opensuse] How to tell the kernel to _not_ find any SATA hard disks?

Hi there, I need $SUBJECT for the following situation: Skype should be used as a from-time-to-time conversation vehicle, but as I'm paranoid, I'm not going to install the binary-only blob onto my real system. Instead I'm trying to build an appliance which boots off a USB stick and which will _not_ find (and potentially auto-mount) any existing partitions/filesystems on the real (hard) disk(s). I've tried to use "brokenmodules=libata" (incl. any combination of additional "sd_mod" and/or "scsi_mod"), but failed as the system won't boot anymore. I thought this should be doable with some kernel parameters at GRUB time, but I haven't been able to do so (yet). Does anybody know how this can be done? I want to change it from (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,default_permissions,blksize=4096) to (rw,acl,user_xattr) like I have my /home dir. So that anyone can read/write on it. Hello all, I have a strange question. I got some piece of software that was compiled on a different version of linux and I'm running into some issues. Is there any way to install the dependencies (a newer version of gcc?) without anything else on the system seeing it? This system has been running for a long time and I don't want to break anything. [opensuse] Setting files "hands off" for kwrite

I have these monster files that look like text enough to fool kwrite into trying to open them if the user accidentally clicks them. Users running dolphin occasionally click to focus, and accidentally launch kwrite which tries to open the file, and since they are very large, they consume all available memory, and pretty much kill opensuse 11.4. It becomes so unresponsive you have a hard time killing the task, and even if you do, X becomes non-responsive. What can settings can I make so that these files don't look like text? (They are BRU backup archives, and the extension is the only thing that distinguishes them. Hello; Might be too ancient to get an answer on SuSE 9.3 but . . . . At one time, there was some keystroke combination (Alt-F3 maybe?) that would unfreeze a KDE desktop and deliver a /new/ desktop or at least allow one to bring up a terminal to go in and kill an offending or hung process. Does anyone know?
