[opensuse] Error trying to build drivers

Don't know whether anyone can help, but... Purchased a USB 2.0 DVB-T Stick that also does DAB. Wasn't really going to use it on linux, bought it for the wife (win7 :-( ) but noticed that it actually came with "Linux Drivers". It's an "Ezcap USB 2.0 DVB-T Stick with FM & DAB" and, I must admit, works very well in Windows. The Linux drivers entail an install.sh executable and a bz2 file. The executable basically extracts the bz2, and makes the driver, which all goes OK for a while but then I get an error: /home/Software/EzyCap/v4l_rtl2832_install/v4l-dvb-b88d4f790cd6/v4l/config-compat.h:4:28: fatal error: linux/autoconf.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. I believe I have all the kernel dev headers and stuff installed.... Anyone have any ideas? Well, judging from postings here, 32-bit flash via nspluginwrapper does currently not work in quite some situations. There was even some threads here for the last few days. The usual recommendation is to use 64-bit flash beta instead -- but that is not supported with security updates, and thus not a choice for me. Concerning Java, I didn't mean Java-plugin-in-browser, but Java as in Sun-1.5.0-VM-that-runs-Tomcat-or-JBoss. ;-) That choice of technology ain't mine, but those of my customers. I'm not aware that nspluginwrapper helps here, or does it? Anyhow, I'll install a 64bit system, and see if my few 32bit-apps that I need will install and run there. [opensuse] Nas servers

I have two buffalo linkstations running on my network has anybody ever used one? They seem only to support afp, smb and ftp. I am guessing they are using a linux kernel apache mysql and others but I can't seem to share via fish or nfs. I can ssh into the devices but when I authenticate they drop the connection. How can I mount them so I can access them via console as well as via dolphin os it better to use windows samba or apples file protocol? Why such a device doesn't support nfs is beyond me. [opensuse] Can't see Samba shares in My Computer -11.4

I think this is a different issue than the Samba/AppArmour one. My desktop fails to find any Samba shares on the local network. I open My Computer>Network Folders>SMB>"workgroup"> the system looks but times out finding any shares. It sees the workgroup, but no shares under that. If I type smb://"computername" it will show the share. It just can't seem to show them by browsing. All other computers on the local LAN find the shares with no problems, including the share on the 11.4 install which can't find them. This happens on both a 32 bit and a 64 bit install. An older opensuse 11.0 install shows them all, as does my macbook, as does Windows 7. Basic clean install (both 32bit and 64 bit) KDE. (AppArmour is disabled in Yast). Thanks for any assistance. [opensuse] Installing/using 32bit userland programs on 64bit openSUSE?

Hi, Does openSUSE 11.4 supports using 32bit userland applications in an x86_64 installation? With "support" I mean: 32bit libraries are available, don't conflict with its 64bit counterparts, and are pulled in as dependencies by zypper if I install the i586 package. The background of my question: I need to use i586 versions of Java and Firefox/Flash. This prevented my switch from i586+PAE to an x86_64 installation. If there would be the possibility to install and use these applications with the needed i586 arch while the rest is x86_64, then I could revisit that decision. [opensuse] SSL/TLS on Postfix/Cyrus server

I've got my new install to handle basic smtp/imap. Clean 11.4 install, Postfix/Cyurs imap/SASL using plain text passwords. Now I need to set up SSL/TLS. In the past I've used self rolled certs, but I think I'd rather use some free certs like StartSSL. I beleive they do authenticated certs for one years duration. In any case, do I need one cert, or more than one? In the past for email I've used mail.domain.com for both IMAP and SMPT, but that was not with an authenticated cert. Do I need one for each service, and another for WWW? I installed the yast2-ca-management but haven't done anything with it yet. I'm also not sure where to place them when I get them done, but a common location seems most logical. So, I'm not sure where to start to produce the certs, or where to install them. Any help or pointers to a good opensuse/cyrus flavored resource would me much appreciated. Thanks to all who helped with getting me this far. [opensuse] suse 11.4 + xorg = 100% cpu

I switched from suse to ubuntu when kde 4 became the default desktop on suse. I just did a SuSE 11.4 install from ubuntu 9.04. I have suse 11.3 running at home with no real problems. After installing 11.4 I noticed that KDE was a bit laggy. Slow to respond to mouse clicks and change of screen / desktop. Then it became slow to the point of total non-response to a mouse, keyboard or any other method of imput. After a couple of hard reboots I started up top to try and track things down. I have a quad core with 4 gig of ram and kernal 2.6.37.1-1.2 xorg 1.9.3 nvidia 260.19.44 firefox 4.0b12 vmware workstation 7.1.4 kde 4.6.0-6.6.2 All desktop effects are disabled. First of all... when I first start the machine xorg goes to over 25% and stays there. One core is pretty maxxed out. Nothing running at all in terms of programs I have started. Just a plain kde desktop. As near as I can tell it will keep one core close to max forever. Start firefox with about 4 tabs open and we are now over 80% and pegging up to 100% with two or three cores maxxed out. If I leave firefox alone it simply stays that high. Wave a mouse over firefox and it's now at 100% cpu on each core. Basically it seems as though any movement of a mouse over any program can peg a core to 100% in xorg. If I start vmware (which I need and use), merely starting it will result in two cores roaring to max. Actually running vmware and starting a virtual window (with xp in it) will result in all 4 cores being over 90% split between vmware and xorg and as long as I have a virtual machine running the cpu stays around 90% for every core. Even if nothing really is happening in the virtual machine. After all is said and done I am thinking the start of the problems is between xorg and kde. xorg being @ 25% cpu with only kde going leads me there. I just am not sure what I need to back off / install latest to resolve this problem. One thing for sure. The machine is unusable in its current condition. Having to hit the manual reset button because nothing happens on the monitor for 5 minutes is not good. Would I be better to simply go with 11.3 and kde 4.4 or so or Selectively uninstalling or use a different desktop. (ohhh for kde 3.5 :-) Realize that just to do my normal work, I need vmware, a browser, email, openoffice, postgres and apache going. Up until suse 11.4 this was easily possible. -- Dr. Roy F. [opensuse] 11.4 and vlc media player: why won't vlc start-up?

I just installed 11.4 with KDE (clean install, 32-bit version, off the DVD), and installed vlc which is my preferred choice as a multimedia application (for TV viewing, DVD viewing, capturing TV programs). However vlc will simply not start - the cursor bounces around but no vlc.
