[opensuse] 11.3: Really old nvidia driver not in repo?

All, I'm trying to install the nvidia driver for an old card I have. Per http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers I need to install x11-video-nvidia, but that's not available in the 11.3 nvidia repo. (x11-video-nvidiaG01 and x11-video-nvidiaG02 are there). [opensuse] Anyone have an ExpressCard Ethernet adapter? IOC-6800?

I really need a second ethernet port in my laptop for diagnostic purposes [so I can connect to the monitor port of a switch and still be on the network]. My laptop has an ExpressPort/54. The only NIC I've been able to find is the Cables Unlimited IOC-6800. [opensuse] Neat Emerald Theme - eXtrude

Guys, For those running the emerald decorator, I worked with "padster" to come up with a (at least I think) killer emerald theme. I took the look from padster's metacity theme and created the emerald theme. The latest is at: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/dcrExtrude?content=128080 (it's a dark theme -- of course). [opensuse] Tethering Nexus One

I have a Google Nexus One smart phone, which support tethering by both WiFi and USB cable. WiFi is easy enough, but I don't know how to do USB. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.0 on my notebook and suspect USB tethering may require a more recent distro. Just to test things out you can go to susestudio.com and set up a Xen domU image with openSUSE 11.2 (openSUSE 11.3 is not yet available). Download the image and fire it up. [opensuse] Kernel change?

So, I got my Windows xp reinstalled and working perfectly, and updated to 11.3. Tired of dual-boot, especially now that my job requires me to go more often to Windows, I looked into VirtualBox. Looks clear enough on vavai's web site and the VB site, but ... Vavai says I absolutely _have_ to have the kernel-default. Using his instructions, I find I have kernel-desktop installed. So I look for instructions to change kernel. The wiki is empty, as far as I can find (23 pages naming "kernel", none telling how to change the kernel without reinstalling). Is it possible to change kernels without reinstalling 11.3? I can, but it seems so extravagant... [opensuse] 11.3 kernel hardlocking box (looks like built-in network modules)

Guys, With 11.3 my box hardlocks every 5-10 minutes. Reviewing the logs for the past 10 lockups it looks like a kernel network module bug because there is either a request for eth0 or wlan0 immediately prior to the lockup. I have opened a bug report at: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=628166 Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? If so, please add your info to the bug report. </suppressed rant regarding list blocking> I'm far from an expert, but I've been playing with virtual box today. you can setup various machines, each has a small profile that says how much RAM it can have, how the devices can be configured (e.g. you can point ISO files to be mounted as CD devices) and a path to a 'disk' file. it's basically a file that can either be set to grow, or a statically set file (the growing file seems to have an upper limit that it won't go past, the static file takes and holds the disk space). I'd say you don't -have- to have a seperate partition for the virtual disk files, but it made sense to me to do it. that's probably much more info than you really wanted. short answer - you're going to need to set aside largish portions of disk space (the default is 8 gig for an opensuse install). if you want to make sure you don't fill up other sections (and to me that's often a very important thing), then yes, a seperate partition (or hopefully a logical volume) makes a bit of sense. as far as overall performance, I don't think it'd matter a whole lot. -- Even the Magic 8 ball has an opinion on email clients: Outlook not so good. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org
