[opensuse] virtual box question

Hello SuSE people, I presently multiboot 4 separate os's. I've been thinking about installing virtualbox to see how it works but I know little about it. One of my questions is: Where and what does the host do with the guest files? Should I have a separate dedicated partition for it? How much space is needed? I've googled a little bit but have not come up with any specific answers. Hello! If anybody else has really weird artifacts using the proprietary NVIDIA driver 256.35 from the NVIDIA openSUSE repository (here 11.3) with a GT 220: Try PerfLevelSrc=0x2222 (you can specify this at different places, use google) or use nvidia-settings to disable adaptive powermizer mode. Hallo! Hi . Well another little ditty in 11.2 i was able to move files around to and from my TomTom OneXL on 11.3 it shows up for a few seconds then just vanishes . Guys, David, I'm stumped. To get the xterm columns and lines in a script I use Randall's method (modified): tmp=$(stty -a) # fill tmp with stty ouput and then parse for W & H tmp=${tmp##*rows\ } tHeight=${tmp%%;*} tmp=${tmp##*columns\ } tWidth=${tmp%%;*} echo -e "\n Width : $tWidth\n Height: $tHeight\n" However, if you provide input via stdin like: cat somefile | thescript.sh Then stty fails with an error: stty: standard input: Invalid argument Why?? [opensuse] Which Qt4 package in openSUSE 11.3 contains meta object compiler?

Hello openSUSE folks, Could somebody please give me a hint, which Qt4 package in openSUSE 11.3 contains meta object compiler? I'm trying to compile FreeCAD from its sources but config is bitching about: checking for Qt >= 4.3... configure: error: Cannot find Qt meta object compiler (moc) I've looked through all Qt4 packages included with the distro and enabled all Qt4 devel packages. Apparently I didn't nail down this issue yet. [opensuse] Xen vs KVM

I bought a new motherboard for my wife's computer, making sure it (Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3) and its processor (Intel i5-650) supported both vt-x and vt-d. Recently I've read in a techno-blog that Xen is dead because of KVM. Suse ships Xen, and I'd intended to use it, but this guy speculates that Novell is only sticking with Xen because of its relationship with Microsoft; other distributions are already switching to KVM. Is there a firm answer to the value of Xen vs KVM? I've done some preliminary reading, and both look good to my uninformed eye. Are there any present advantages to Xen due to suse's direct support in the distribution? Is there risk that I might have to dump Xen in a year and rebuild my system with KVM? [opensuse] Help with NAS selection

Hello 1) I put all my data on one disk and knocked it over (pretty silly) 2) I then got two x2 internal HDD which I did a copy each night from one to the other 3) Then I went to x2 external HDD same copy setup I really would like a proper NAS solution but am confused as to what selection criteria I need I am pretty sure I want RAID 1 - mirror backup I am pretty sure I want ethernet not USB I don't understand what I need to have installed on an openSUSE box to talk to a NAS ? There is windows node name type sharing ? Confused. I really want it on my LINUX PC because I want to back up log files and sql tables. [opensuse] 11.3 and ssh X forwarding not working

Hi! Just upgraded my home server to 11.3. Normal mode for it is headless, but I cannot seem to get X to work over ssh. I really don't know where to look. So, here is what I have. I enabled sshd at the install phase (opened the firewall, but currently firewall is disabled altogether). Only change I did for the /etc/ssh/sshd_config was to add "AllowGroups ssh_users" (which includes me). Otherwise I noted that it already has "X11Forwarding yes" I login to the system from OS X or another older openSUSE with > ssh -X 192.168.1.2 from OS X, I get this warning from both the new 11.3 as well as the old openSUSE: Warning: untrusted X11 forwarding setup failed: xauth key data not generated Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding. However, that doesn't appear if I log in from the older openSUSE and it doesn't seem to matter much as form the old server, this works great: > xclock & However, from the new 11.3, all I get is "Error: Can't open display: " What is wrong with the sshd in 11.3?
