I think the first time I searched from that page, I didn't get any hits (don't recall what syntax I used), so I went to the build service page - from which I got RPMs to download, but no 1-click or YaST options. This time 'round searching on 'R-base' brought up the appropriate 1-click options right off the bat. [opensuse] Installing R

Hello, I recently installed Open SuSE 11.3 for evaluation, and I'm trying to install R. As near as I can tell, it's not included in the default repositories, but I went to the online build service site and found two rpms, R-base and R-base-devel and downloaded them. Since it's been years (literally) since I mucked about much on an RPM base system, I'm a little fuzzy on the correct command line incantation to install these packages and include any dependencies necessary. If someone could help me out - either with the correct command, or with a nudge to the right place to read up on the specifics... I'd appreciate it greatly. [opensuse] console user keybind shutdown -r now ( AND keybind halt too???????)

Hello. I've got a question about the three fingered salute (from a virtual console) where it makes sense to give anyone with physical access to the power supply the ability to trigger a clean shutdown. Thus root doesn't have to be logged in to make <ctrl>+<alt>+<delete> trigger a "shutdown - r now"... I can't remember where to look ( durned CRS ) for the place where I could make <ctrl>+<alt>+<delete> trigger a "shutdown - h now" instead. But I could probably find it if that's what I really wanted to do. But what is quite beyond my skill level is to define another console keybinding, (say a four fingered salute like <ctrl>+<win><alt>+<delete> {or if the win key is problematical I could try <ctrl>+<alt>+<end>}) that would enable a "user" to select either "shutdown - r now" with one keybinding, OR select "shutdown - h now" with the other... Is this something that I could reasonably hope to accomplish without taking a college level course in system administration or programming??? Is there a how-to somewhere??? Guys, Here is a quick browser tip for firefox. About a year ago I stumbled across 'NightShift - Eyecare' that did a fantastic job at basically inverting the way firefox rendered pages providing immediate relief to tired eyes: NightShift - Eyecare http://userstyles.org/styles/18192 It's not for all pages, but when you need to read a page or two of text and you don't want to stare into a bright display, it is worth its weight in gold. Lastnight, I had to rebuild my firefox install (moving ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla-sav and starting new). Looking for nightshift again (no remembering what it was called, I stumbled across 'Midnight Surfing' and gave it a try. Wow, it worked better in some circumstances. That was cool, so I thought I would pass it along to the list: Midnight Surfing http://userstyles.org/styles/23516 It can be a great tool to stick in your toolbox for the right circumstance and since stylish integrates nicely with FF providing the little status bar on/off dialog for the styles, you can flip it on/off with no effort at all. [opensuse] Udevd CPU spikes?

Just started noticing this phenomenon. About every 10 minutes or so (very loosely), my CPU spikes, fan kicks in. I finally had `top` open at the right time to catch it, and it was a pair (yes, pair) of udevd processes, owned by root. Lasts about a minute. opensuse 11.2, quad core HP box, 8G ram. Very little exercising the box - mutt, 3 firefox windows with static content (no flash) and a relatively quiet java app. Interactive latency is not particularly affected. Any ideas? [opensuse] Is AppArmor broken in 11.3/KDE4?

Hi, In the Yast Apparmor module, when I click on the 'Add Profile Wizard' I get an error message 'Synchronisation error between frontend and backend!. The Apparmor Control Panel thinks that Apparmor is not enabled, but if I do # rcapparmor status I get the following output barrowhillfarm:~ # rcapparmor status apparmor module is loaded. 10 profiles are loaded. 10 profiles are in enforce mode. /usr/sbin/ntpd /usr/sbin/identd /sbin/klogd /sbin/syslogd /sbin/syslog-ng /usr/sbin/traceroute /usr/sbin/nscd /usr/sbin/mdnsd /bin/ping /usr/sbin/avahi-daemon 0 profiles are in complain mode. 3 processes have profiles defined. 3 processes are in enforce mode : /usr/sbin/avahi-daemon (4439) /usr/sbin/nscd (5150) /usr/sbin/ntpd (5137) 0 processes are in complain mode. 0 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined. I have never knowingly used Apparmor, but I'm thinking it's a security tool I should get to grips with. Is anyone using it successfully on oS 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4?
