[opensuse] New (p)ata subsystem in kernel 2.6.33?

Hello, I use a Promise PATA controller and openSUSE 11.1. I just upgraded to kernel 2.6.33 from HEAD repo. And my drive hda1 suddenly is now sda1. So I wonder, has the ATA subsystem changed from kernel 2.6.32 to 2.6.33? [opensuse] KDE 4.4.00 "activity bars" stop working, "show dashboard" widget does nothing,

My activity bars no longer function, and the "show dashboard" widget on the taskbar panel does nothing. I have tried removing almost all of my activities -- everything but the original "desktop activity" -- and adding them back. Still the activity bars are non-functional. I have an activity-bar panel, activity bars in the Folders, and an activity bar in the Desktop window. All have stopped functioning. I can click on them and the slider moves, but no activity switch occurs. How can I get back a functioning system? :) This may be related to another problem I have encountered several times now: a blank white screen without a cashew and no right-click functionality. Will compare my current KDE config files with the files I saved. [opensuse] 11.2 KDE plasma problem

Just upgraded my laptop using http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openS… repo and plasma desktop keeps seg faulting. Just thought I would pass this along to see if others are seeing this as well. And yes I know it is the factory release of KDE4.4 and can expect problems. I just wait for a fix before loading it on my desktop. And by the way, KDE is looking better all the time. Thank you for replying, Vincenzo -- I hope you are right. I ask to be proven wrong. I've spent hours exploring the KDE control panel, but I haven't found the basic 10.2 features I listed. I did finally figure out how to put the taskbar panel on the right edge of the screen. It's not a control panel option: Instead, I have to click on the taskbar directly. If I am missing something, please tell me. I've been a big fan of Linux for the last ten years. Hello, In 11.1, I used /usr/udev/vol_id to automatically mount external drives to specified directories via udev. On a fresh install of 11.2, this utility is no longer available. [opensuse] Help extening a script

Hello all! I have a script that downloads the photos from a SD-card into a directory created with the date of "downloading". It then calls a second script that converts all the raw files to jpeg and place them in two sub folders under the parent. One for full size, and one for reduced. My problem: I dont preserve exif data with the current script. I need to extend it and i dont know how. I planed to use exiftool as it gives me every tag i want in its default state. [opensuse] Copy LVM

I'm in the process of replacing a notebook computer hard drive with a larger one. I can use dd to copy non-LVM partitions to a file on a USB drive, but that doesn't seem to work with LVM. How can a LVM partition be copied in a similar manner? still using 11.1 -x64 with the latest kde3. tried to install knemo using yast. it showed 3 options: knemo, kde3-knemo and kde4-knemo. first tried the plain knemo, ver 0.4.8.0. when i type knemo on a console, nothing seems to happen and the console is ready for the next input. there is a user process started and there are no error messages. but there is no app window. retyping the command brings out the message "knemo already running", but how does one see it? Exactly the same thing happens when i try kde3-knemo 0.4.8.1 and kde4-knemo 0.5.1.0. when going from basic knemo to kde3-knemo yast first removes knemo, but nothing else is removed when other permutations are tried. the debug-info package is installed, nothing shows up in /var/log/messages, but nothing seems to show anywhere. googling for this always clearly shows a gui interface, where does one find it?
