[opensuse] applications looking drastically different under GNOME vs KDE

Hi all, I've got an OpenSuSE 11.1 box on which I used to log in under KDE 4 for quite some time. Now I tried GNOME... and some things, like Yast2, for instance, look drastically different. Why would that be? Is there a good rationale (or any rationale, for that matter) behind that practice? By the way, GNOME seems to be more responsive than KDE 4 though there are still some issues to be worked out. Does anybody else feel that way - or is it just me? [opensuse] FireWall Settings??

Hi all, When I try to use jDownloader I get this error: JDownloader not responding on http://localhost:9666/flashgot! Please check your firewall settings. Would someone tell me how to check my firewall settings? I don't think I even have the firewall turned on. [opensuse] KDE4 Bug/Feature - Dolphin Still No man:/ pages -- only Preview?

KDE Devs, I know originally dolphin could not read man pages. Trying again in 4.3.4, dolphin shows the man page in the preview pane, but doesn't show anything in the main windows. What dolphin did was call konqueror to open the man page, but konqueror to 100% of the CPU displaying it. I know the 100% CPU isn't right, but what about dolphin and man pages? Is this still right? Now we have two poor solutions, One is konqueror lacking manpower to keep it updated (11.2 konqueror 4.3.1 lacks almost all SSL features...) Two is dolphing while almost reaching 100% filemanagement of konqui hurts it on the navigator role distracting developers... Then you have gwenview that is becoming almost dolphin (they are pretty similar) , maybe a bit ahead on image stuff... meanwhile, you can see firefoz KDEized (it was really neccesary?) just to sum up another good product to the disparate experience KDE 4.X is showing us. Instead of working on more specialized views to integrate in konqueror, it seems the work is spread here and there without too much sense... Yeahh! the new concept desktop is here, someone should explain us again because we, poor base users still dont understand whats going on.. Ive been an advocate of KDE from the very begining on RH and ive been a happy openSUSE user from the last 5 years.. but the current SUSE/KDE philosophy is drivinig me nuts!! Dont tell me im wrong , just see the maillist, this feeling is not going to stop. [opensuse] Webyast problems

Hello, i upgraded from openSUSE 11.1 to 11.2 and wanted to try out webyast. So i followed the install instructions from http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Web/Installation . When i then start the webyast server with rcyastws start and try to connect to localhost:4984 to see the "“pure” web page that shows the available modules which can be used via the REST interface" i get this error "500 - Internal Server Error". [opensuse] dnssec-keygen problem in opensuse 11.2, including the genDDNSkey script

Hi, I ran into a problem that I suspect may be a bug in dnssec-keygen. Can someone confirm this? I was trying to generate keys with the genDDNSkey script, but the script just freezes. So I had a look at the script and discovered that the problem occurs when calling dnssec-keygen. It sleeps, seemingly stuck waiting 4-ever (well, I honestly only tried for a few minutes). Actually, when trying this over and over again, it succeeded once out of something like 15+ attempts. I changed nothing between trials. In opensuse 11.1, latest bind update, running this command immediately generates private and public keys Ktest.* /usr/sbin/dnssec-keygen -a HMAC-MD5 -b 512 -r /dev/random -n USER test In opensuse 11.2, fully patched, the same command just falls asleep until killed. [opensuse] Linux file-sharing

Hi, I'm setting up a new home-server. One of the things it has to do is sharing files, so they can be backed-up. What's the "best" way to share files between linux-machines ? Now I have Samba. I'm thinking of replacing it by NFS. I have a desktop PC that's used by the family. Sometimes I connect with my work-laptop (dual boot linux, seldom Windows). I want personal shares and a "shared" share. Comments please. [opensuse] Strange WiFi problem

Ok, this one has me stumped. I'm trying to figure out why the WiFi on a friend's netbook is not working right. Hardware/software: - Asus EeePC 1005HA-H - Atheros WiFi that is known to work well with the ath9k driver - openSUSE 11.2 and KDE.4.3.1 default install plus standard updates I have the exact same netbook model running openSUSE 11.2 and it works fine on my system. Now, what it's doing... we've enabled WiFi using the KNetworkManager, and entered the WEP key for his WiFi router. It finds his router fine, and requests/receives and IP address. But.. here's the weird part... he can't get past the router on the network. We can browse the local network, and even admin the router from the EeePC, but going past the router onto the internet just fails. We cannot ping etc anything outside the local LAP. If I connect my identical laptop into the same router, it's fine... receives an IP, and I have full access to the local LAN as well as the internet. If we connect his netbook to a CAT5 cable then everything works as expected. So.... WiFi is working on the netbook, we can access the LAN, but beyond that doesn't seem to exist. This is on a brand new default install of openSUSE. No extra apps added to the install. We've also reinstalled a couple of times just to see if something went odd in the install. Anyone have any ideas what is going on here? I don't know what to look for in the logs.... [opensuse] 11.0 Any other keepassx users? I'm still segfaulting - Sadly works fine from VirtualBox on the same box...

Listmates, Something was introduced a month or two ago in 11.0 that prevents keepassx from opening and causing it to segfault. When run from the command line, you receive the following error: 11:40 alchemy:~/.dcr> keepassx kpx.kdb Found Metastream: KPX_CUSTOM_ICONS_4 Found Metastream: KPX_GROUP_TREE_STATE Segmentation fault It isn't keepassx, it is some library somewhere because I can open the same database from VirtualBox (with a shared local directory being my ~/ directory) with the same version of keepassx running in XP. I can also open keepassx in Arch Linux without error. Are there any 11.0 keepassx users on the list that have a working install on 11.0? I'll try to find time to build the same version from source to enable debugging, but if anyone else out there is having similar problems or has a work-around, I would appreciate it if you would let me know.
