[opensuse] Puzzled about the timing of 'replies' to posts to opensuse mail lists

Most of the time if I post a message to any of the opensuse mail lists I get my post back as an incoming message within (very often) ~15 seconds. However, I have also noticed that some posts may take a loooooong time to come back to me. I have sent a few message over half-hour+ ago and I am still waiting for them to appear in my incoming opensuse mail lists. So, the question is: are opensuse mail lists being censored/monitored and posts 'cleared' before being sent-on to everyone subscribed to the opensuse mail lists? This simply just one of those things? [opensuse] Disable Automount for DVD drive

We have a few users connected to our server via XDMCP. Whenever we insert a CD or DVD into the DVD drive an automount requeset pops up for every single user logged in at that moment, be that via XDMCP or directly at the console (see attached screenshot). How do I disable this? Running 11.2 with Gnome desktop. Since we don't use automount it'd be ok to disable it alltogether. I'm sure I've installed themes before, but.... Looked everywhere for how to install, and all I have managed to do is install the icons... Should be under "Configure Desktop>Look & Feel>Appearance...?? Can only find "install Theme" under Icons, and that's exactly what it does, install the icons. Listmates, Here is a first look at some of the old and new bugs in kde 4.4. There is much more good than bad in this release so this is just a list for discussion and confirmation for others who have moved to 4.4. Below the bugs are listed with two columns. The first tis the category (new=haven't seen before in kde4x, k43b2 etc.. means I bugged the problem during the kde 4.3 beta 2 testing, etc.., reg=regression (fixed in prior releases, back now). The second column is the description and hopefully is descriptive enough so you can tell what I'm talking about: new konqueror "edit bookmarks" entry boxes at the bottom are way too small they only use only 1/2 the available space there k43b2 strigi select index location - folder navigation window too small for 4 - 5+ level directories & no horiz scroll bar, try selecting /usr/share/doc/packages/Apache2... This one was bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208714 which was marked fixed, so I guess this should be a regression. However, I have never seen this actually fixed. reg No Printer Configuration in System Settings (kde4-printer-applet-4.4.0-115.2 installed) new Local Network Browsing Username & Password NOT used for network printer detection and browsing?? new CUPS not finding locally shared network printers (related to above??) new SystemSettings Dialog Suspends All keyboard input to any other dialog. Try setting (alt+print), get the Qt error, hit print screen for ksnapshot, then choose "save as", and try to type a filename to save as -- Nogo, nada. new Ctrl+Print in application Kwin does not copy screenshot to clipboard new SystemSettings Crashes Often - Try computer admin -> standard shortcuts, No drkonqi? reg Add Widget Slider Disappears as Soon as Created When Focus Set to 'Follow Mouse'. With 4.3.98, it stayed visible until the 'X' close button pressed. new Now way to customize the Mouse application menu from Desktop Settings -> Mouse Actions -> Add Action -> Left Button - "assign: Application Launcher", Now you get the whole entire suse super-menu that isn't exactly what you don't want to try and navigate as a fly-out menu on the desktop. k4 No way to assign a 'custom launcher menu' to 'mouse click on desktop' (simple in kde3, you had the choice to configure multiple custom menus to assign to a mouse click on the desktop depending on your task at hand) (related to above?) I know there are many more, but these are the ones I stumbled across today. All in all, I'm impressed with 4.4. If there is a complaint here, it would be that more of the bugs that have been on file for nearly a year are not fixed before the next NEW KDE X.X HAS BEEN RELEASED. I know that goes back to the manpower issue, but at least I would hope that priority is given to fixing the simple, ... but annoying... bugs before a new release gets announced. listmates, As mentioned earlier, after the kde44 install, gnome is really messed up on 11.0. I have gone back and collected all the symptoms I can in hope somebody can help me figure out how to fix gnome. Gnome was working perfectly immediately before kde44 install. After the install, it looks is has lost the ability to set any of its setting. What is very strange is that the fonts are huge even though they are set at the same 8pt as in kde. The look like they are 12-14pt without the gnome settings daemon running. Here is what happens when I try to start gnome: Immediately after typing in my username/password and selecting gnome, the following error is received during gnome start: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon. Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly. The last error message was: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Then, the first thing you notice on login - No background (the splash screen is left as the bg). The Lower and Upper Panels are Present and work, it just looks strange against the splash background. So I open Gnome Control Panel. It opens just fine, but like everything else is completely bland without any settings applied. I then try and click appearance to see if I can adjust any settings. Immediately Upon Clicking Appearance, the following occurs: (1) the proper window color and decorations appear for ~1 second, then: (2) gnome-settings-daemon crash. Error: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'. Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE) settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings manager. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The error is repeatable every time. The appearance daemon will ultimately open after ~15-20 seconds, however it is non-functional. Meaning you can click the button, but nothing changes. The Fonts: In Gnome, the fonts are 4-5 points larger in appearance than they are set. Currently I have them set at 8pt and they look more like 12 or 14pt. Probably some xdpy stuff that the gnome-settings-daemon does? Compiz will start, but it starts with a Black Screen. The only way to get your desktop back is the switch back to metacity. Hi Dotan, I have another Opensuse 11.2 KDE4.4 issue for you to see if you can persuade KDE to fix. I closed the desktop folder transparency by accident and couldn't find a way to get it back. I was able to get the icons back on the desktop in the same format as the kde 3.5 desktops displayed them, but couldn't return it to the prior configuration. I had posted to the mail list to try and get an answer to this question, and received this reply: "right click on your desktop. Press ad widgets. Find folder menu. Ad it and adjust when displayed on desktop." When I tried to follow these instructions, I get a menubar full of icons in alphabetical order. The folder menu icon was not displayed. When I pressed the arrow on the right to scroll to it, the menubar instantaneously scrolled past all icons. When I tried to scroll back with the arrow on the left, the menu was unresponsive.
