[opensuse] Puzzled about the timing of 'replies' to posts to opensuse mail lists
Most of the time if I post a message to any of the opensuse mail lists I get my post back as an incoming message within (very often) ~15 seconds. However, I have also noticed that some posts may take a loooooong time to come back to me. I have sent a few message over half-hour+ ago and I am still waiting for them to appear in my incoming opensuse mail lists. So, the question is: are opensuse mail lists being censored/monitored and posts 'cleared' before being sent-on to everyone subscribed to the opensuse mail lists? This simply just one of those things? Simply just asking a simple question. BC -- "Will the highways of the internet become more few?" Nah, sorry, but something is really going wrong here... I posted the original of the above message at 2338 hrs *my* local Daylight Saving Time (East coast of Australia) [the original shows this time in the Header]. The above copy of my message was received by me from my ISP at 2356 hours - I was looking at the clock - BUT the message header is showing that it was received by me at 2338 hours - the same time it was posted/sent! (My computer clock's time is synced by ntpd with the atomic clock at boot time.) So, who is playing silly buggers with messages? Thunderbird? My ISP? Some "I spy with my little eye" filtering system on the internet? BC -- "Will the highways of the internet become more few?" Hi Basil, I have seen posts of mine never get sent back to me! I've even seen them being replied to in other poster's replies. It seems that mail is getting lost somewhere, some times... I thought the default setting on the opensuse lists was NOT to send their own posts back to the sender? Or maybe I set it and have forgotten ... or maybe that setting is the cause of your problems - go to your list settings and check? In any case I doubt its a big conspiracy :) Regards, Tejas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Agree. In my case the effect is intermittent, maybe one posting out of 100. I always assumed it was the MailScanner and SpamAssassin process on my end that was to blame, and never bothered to look into it further. No, that is a known gmail "feature". I get all my emails sent to the list back on my account. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Yes, that is true. Hours some times. I think they (novell/suse) have problems at some of their servers, erratically. Just examine the received list on one of those delayed emails. For example, on your own email: sent 23:38:07 +1100 mx1.suse.de 13:38:10 +0100 (CET) relay2.suse.de 13:38:12 +0100 (CET) amavisd-new 13:38:12 +0100 (CET) relay2.suse.de 13:38:13 +0100 (CET) lists4.suse.de 12:34:59 +0000 (GMT) lists4.suse.de 12:35:56 +0000 (GMT) IMPmx1.adm.correo 13:53:02 +0100 (a server at my ISP ) elessar 13:53:02 +0100 (this computer) Observe that the "lists4.suse.de" has a slow clock, probably they don't run ntp on it. And it takes some time to send email to my ISP, even considering the slow clock. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
