[opensuse] KDE4.5 good impression...But

Hello listmembers, Recently I installed KDE4.5 onto my 11.2, by following opensSUSE guidance and I've been very well impressed of this new DE release. Now if I try a zypper ref; zypper up, then I notice several KDE packages available but since they come from different vendor (OBS instead of openSUSE) they went no installed. In these cases I know, I should limit the repos to "dup" with --repo, or --from switch, but wonder if doing so then I risk to broke something. [opensuse] Trashed boot loader

OK, I got a kernel update and it trashed the boot loader leaving in a grub prompt. SO, since the system repair option was removed because "about the only thing it was used for was to fix the boot loader", how do I fix it? I really don't want to re-install. [opensuse] Kernel update

Hi, I am running suse 11.1 on this laptop. I have found that if I update the computer, the cooling fans stop running and never come on again after reboot. I have traced this to a recent kernel update from 2.6.27.45-0.1 to 2.6.27.48. If I downgrade to the previous kernel to get the fans back on, the new kernel always shows up as an patch available. If I update all packages, the kernel gets updated. [opensuse] Preserving LVM after after os reload

Hi guys, I have two disk one with OS and a second disk containing an LVM. I would like to OS reload the server without losing LVM. I heard that LVM is self sustaining. Is that true ? Should I backup something(using vgcfgbackup & vgexport ?) to get LVM running after os reload. I did confirm that its not the DHCP that is taking long - I can also that that as soon as I see the NetworkManager applet shows up (after 5-6 minutes) on the desktop that DHCP takes less than a second. [opensuse] errors with setfacl -- opensuse 11.2

Hello, Using setfacl 2.2.48 and getting an error trying to set the acl's on a directory; # setfacl -m g:groupname:rwx directtory_name setfacl: Option -m: Invalid argument near character 3 The directory is on the ext4 file system with acl enabled; /dev/sda3 on / type ext4 (rw,acl,user_xattr) Any suggestions on getting 'setfacl' to set attributes? [opensuse] "Accessing the Package Management Failed" in YaST

I'm getting a message "Accessing the Package Management Failed" whenever I try to start online update in yast. It tells me the pid of a non-existent packagekitd process which it claims is holding a lock. What do I need to do to recover? And what might have caused the problem? [opensuse] "System Services (Runlevel)" does not list any services on 11.3

I can see this phenomenon on two systems running 11.3 . In simple mode and also in expert mode. What could be the reason for that? I mean, my /etc/init.d/rc?.d are not empty. So what software is parsing these directories and thinks, they are empty? Or aren't these directories used any longer in 11.3 ? The problem is, that I can see all my mail from Pine, but not from Thunderbird... Thunderbird only sees Inbox and Trash. perhaps because it tried to create those two. It does see the contents of Trash. With Pine, local or remote, I can see all the folders. The setting is: mail_location = mbox:~/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u ...as ~/Mail/* is where my mail exist in mbox format, many files and directories. Alpine sees it all, no problem there.
