[opensuse] yast install to directory on openSUSE 11.2 and 11.3

I am trying to see how the yast "Install to directory" feature works. I am curious why all software packages seem to be a dependency. (Shown in Yast as a check with three dots under it.) For example, GIMP is selected. As it seems to be a dependency, I cannot deselect it from installation. In fact, if I check the Installation Summary tab, all packages are like this. OpenOffice? ImageMagick? I am interested in this so I can install various versions of the OS for use in a local chrooted build environment that should create compiled binaries for various openSUSE releases. I did this a while back for making Gentoo software on openSUSE and it worked great. [opensuse] Virus Scan

I have received a message from my hosting service informing me that they have found that my FTP password has been compromised by an intruder or a trojan, and that they have cleaned it of malicious software and given it a temporary password. They urge me to perform a "full anti-viral scan on your local PC (using an in-depth scanner)". Through YaST I have searched the usual repos plus Packman to find software to make such a scan, but there is little there, and all of it seems to be for mail gateways or proxies, which I think are not relative. I've also searched the Web. especially openSuSE pages, for helpful information, but so far have not recognized any. [opensuse] Missing YaST doco

Hi all, I'm looking for developer documentation on writing a YaST module, but I'm confused by the hits I get when Google:ing for it. I found a lot of links to chorgan.provo.novell.com/yast/doc, but the site is for some reason not available. Is this a temporary problem? Is there a replacement? Failing that, any other good pointers? [opensuse] Hauppauge 900H DVB-T and scanning for analog channels?

I have been working with my Hauppauge WinTV900H USB stick DVB-T tuner (phew, that;'s a mouthful). I managed to get it "working" in openSUSE 11.3 by installing the v4l/dvb stuff from the repositories, copying an xc3028L-v36.fw file (I found/downloaded) to /lib/firmware, and doing a modprobe tm6000. I have connected the input for the USB stick to the cable TV outlet. The cable provider has 52 analog channels that this 900H can pickup/tune in Windows. If I tell it (in Windows) to scan for DVB-T, it finds nothing, but if I tell it to scan for cable analog channels, it finds the 52 available channels. This is expected since the signal on the cable feed is analog. So... now that I've got the tuner working in Linux (as in recognized and switched on, ready to be used) how do I convince it to scan for the 52 analog channels instead of the default DVB-T channels? scan <location> -o zap | tee ~/channels.conf just ends in "tuning failed" errors when it can't find a signal at the predefined frequencies in the location file.... which I suppose makes sense since the "T" and analog are not the same thing I tinkered with TVTime, MeTV, and VLC... and all can find the 900H, and all scan the T side for channels but do not scan the analog part... or at least I can't find a way to scan for analog. Has anyone got this far with a 900H? Any tips? Anyone know of a way to switch on/scan the analog side of the 900H in Linux? [opensuse] BIOS/GRUB problem -- Was: Unsuccessful installation of operating system

I would like to summarize the background and the current situation of the inability of my desktop system to boot normally (I am able to boot it through grub commands), I would like to hope that someone will be able to offer a sollution for the problem. The system has two HDs; at present, the active system is oS v22.3 on hd0, while hd1 contains v11.1. Each of these has a /boot directory with its own GRUB; the MBR is generic, with no boot loader. Se;ectopm betweem tje, os made by an IBM Boot Manager. Only the GRUB of hd1 is functional; trying to boot through the hd0 GRUB produces a black screen immediately after the POST routine. People I have consulted attribute the problem to the fact that at some point the data connectors of the two HDs were interchanged at the time that one of them was replaced by a new disk, thus confusing the BIOS, and this is entirely possible. On the other hand, the problem did not appear at the time I had the newe HD installed, but only quite a few weeks later. I don't understand why a confused BIOS would continue to function rationally for weeks before exhibiting schizoid symptoms. Also unexplained is why one of the GRUBs works and the other doesn't. If BIOS confusion is the reason for the problem, that would mean that the BIOS chip has stored somewhere the assumed order and location of the HDs. I have to wonder if there is not a way to delete that memory, perhaps by removing a jumper on the MB. I don't find any reference to such a jumper in the MB documentation (this is an Intel board, 915GAV -- an older board with a Pentium IV CPU). Below I list some of the small files in the GRUB directories of each HD, in the hope that these may be of assistance. If someone wants additional information that I haven't thought of, please ask. I must have registered with KDE Forums some time ago, but now I can't remember what username I used, nor the password. It says if you have trouble to get in touch with the Board Administrator. How does one do that? (When I tried to register as a new member, it said my email address was already in use.) But you have to have a username in order to ask for password help. Catch 22. anyone? [opensuse] Chromium from OBS breakage?

The Chrome browser from obs://build.opensuse.org/openSUSE:11.3 which is version 8.0.556 exhibits some broken behavior that I've not seen in any other version.
