[opensuse] D-Bus daemon hanging #2

I've just noticed a different problem that also appears to be an out of control dbus daemon. (1) ssh -X to a machine running opensuse2 (2) start firefox (3) quit firefox (4) logout of the ssh via ctrl-d Result: the session fails to terminate. Looking with ps I see dhoworth 30675 1 0 13:56 ? 00:00:00 dbus-launch --autolaunch 7b3efb92d4779debd063b9394aef7162 --binary-syntax --close-stderr dhoworth 30676 1 0 13:56 ? 00:00:00 /bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session The same happens if I run gedit but not with xeyes Is this a known problem? [opensuse] 11.2 nvidia Upgrading fails nvidia.ko module linking

Hello List, I've already sent something related to this not critical issue in the past and I'm again posting on the matter since I've recently upgraded nvidia drivers onto my openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 which still encountered same problem: kernel version is updated but nvidia.ko went still installed onto an old /lib/...kernel version on my machine so I'm obliged to create a symbolic link into the latest kernel /lib/modules...folder. Sorry to be not clear enough on the details, but I'm at work and far from the affected system, by the way I hope you get the point. [opensuse] D-Bus daemon hanging

Hi All, I've run in to a problem with OpenSuSE 11.3 where the boot sequence hangs at "Starting D-Bus daemon". Quick searches on the net seems to suggest that this happens when ldap is used for authentication in conjuction with autofs being enabled. I've just started using LDAP for authentication and I simultaneously enabled autofs. Anyone else run in to this? Any workarounds? Any input appreciated. [opensuse] Equivalentt to Kover in KDE4

I used to use Kover in KDE3 to make inserts for cds. I have searched to try and find an equivalent for KDE4 but cannot find one. I'm using 11.3 KDE 4 5 2. [opensuse] Printing from Windows Computers to Suse Printers

Hello all, I remember doing this before, but I am sure things have changed in 11.3. I have 2 printers setup on my OS 11.3 and want to share one of them with a Win XP computer on my home network. I can see and setup the printer from the Win box but it shows a status of Access Denied. I did check online:http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Printing_from_Windows_to_Linux but some things it refers to I just don't find. * 1.1 Step 1: YaST control center * 1.2 Step 2: Edit /etc/cups/mime.convs configuration file * 1.3 Step 3: Restart CUPS server I do not find the file in step #2. [opensuse] Amarok crashing

I first tried to use the stock Amarok that came with 11.3. Upon opening it, it gets to splash screen and then crashes. Every signle time. Whether anything else is running or it's by itself on the desktop. Fine. I bug it at kde.bugs. I'm told by them to upgrade to 2.3.2, which I did yesterday (all but the debug rpm's...I'm on dial-up and 23MB is a bit much to download for something I was *hoping* was simple). I install Amarok 2.3.2 (from an opensuse 11.3 repo, by the way), anticipating being able to use it. Amarok crashes, in the exact same way as before. I bug this one again (this time with the generic debug info that kde.bugs window says isn't good enough to send, btw). [opensuse] NCL2.0 sp2, OS 11.3

Recently installed openSuSE 11.3 on my PC (having run 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 each time using the appropriate version of the Novell Client for Linux (as I dwell in a NetWare shop)) and using the NCL 2.0 sp2 (like I did on openSuSE 11.2) I was able to run the login script, etc. like the Win users so when they have file and folder questions I can 'see' what they were seeing, etc. Recently, the week of Oct 18th, I installed some updates that broke NCL?! Un-installed NCL via YAST, rebooted, re-installed it - the usual stuff - but still not working. I rolled back a version or two of the kernel, hoping that was the solution, but it's still broken. When I tag the Novell login tray icon I get the error 'Cannot scan Connection References. Error:NWCCScanConnRefs:' Within the description box I see the file ncpConnectionRefScanner.cpp is listed with a line reference and so on... Anyone else seeing this type of NCL breakage? At the moment, I'm trying to roll back my updates to get to the point of functionality but still no luck after a few days... Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. [opensuse] chm Viewer plugin for Google Chrome

I am very pleased with the Chrome PDF plugin, since it is much faster than Adobe Reader even is it lacks some functionality. Just in case anyone was following this thread - I asked this question back in august or september - at the time I settled on using plain old zip, because it was the fastest when it came to extraction. However, I have just recently come across 'cromfs' which I don't think was mentioned back then. cromfs is exactly what I was looking for - high compression ratio, fast random access. It also works fine with automount, which became a requirement (as it is a file system).
