[opensuse] Update to 11.2 breaks WLAN/WIFI with ipw2100

Since updating my system to 11.2 WLAN is broken in that knetworkmanager lists all reachable access points but connecting is not possible, even if I switch my router (and connection settings) to unencrypted. Since knetworkmanager shows all access points and their signal strength I'm sure my WLAN hardware is not broken. Now I switched with yast2 to traditional (ifup) based network setup. This did not change anything: Still ethernet based connection works, but 'ifup eth1' (for WLAN) fails on getting an IP address: Starting DHCP4 client on eth1. . . . . . . eth1 DHCP4 continues in background It is still possible to list access points with "Netzwerk durchsuchen" on a page of the 'yast2 lan' configuration module. [opensuse] HP only prints on HP paper

I have a deskjet F2280. Normal photocopy paper works fine. To get high quality prints, I have to use HP paper. It will not feed any other (I have tried kodak and epson which I'd like to use). Printer setup by yast. OS 11.2 with KDE 3.4.5 Is there any way I can fool it into thinking it's HP paper? [opensuse] Problems (minor?) with 11.2 upgrade

After seeing a lot of praise for 11.2, and not having seen the early complaints about its killing Intel networking, I decided to upgrade. I followed the instructions provided on the "Upgrade/Supported" page of the wiki. Things went pretty well, I think. One hitch is that I needed two iterations of zypper dup after I'd done all the preparatory actions. When I did the first dup it crunched for 2-1/2 hours installing thousands of packages. I got some warnings about running processes that needed to be restarted. Since there had been a kernel upgrade, I simply restarted the computer. Panic followed :-). Several blank dialogs popped up. Worse yet, when I started yast to do an online update the progress box was blank. So I went back to the command line and did a zypper up Nothing to do. Meantime more blank dialogs popped up. Willing to try anything, I did another zypper dup It installed hundreds more packages. One of the messages mentioned a 2.6.29... kernel, which I recalled was in 11.1. So I rebooted again. Now uname -a says Linux embelex 2.6.31.5-0.1-pae #1 SMP 2009-10-26 15:49:03 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux so I guess I'm ok. I tried embelex:~ # zypper up Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Nothing to do. then embelex:~ # zypper dup Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Computing distribution upgrade... 3 Problems: sesam_srv-3.0.1-171.1.1.i586 kdm-branding-upstream-4.3.1-7.5.i586 kio_sysinfo-branding-upstream-11.2-3.2.noarch (above slightly edited for clarity). I skipped all of them since they don't appear to be particularly useful (except possibly sesam -- I don't know what it is). I had installed the branding-upstream to see if kde looked better than suse, which i suppose is the reason for the upstream branding warnings. Now I can't get rid of them without downgrading dozens of other packages. So far things look good. Firefox is up to 3.5.6 and seems to work well; Tbird is up to 3.0 and looks good; skype still appears to work (can't test it on people at 0200, but the test call was good :-). Oh yeah. wifi doesn't work any more. One of the 11.1 updates broke it, and I was hoping 11.2 would fix whatever that was. It's still doing the same thing it was before: knetworkmanager shows me my SSID, I click on it, it churns for a while, and comes back asking for my passphrase. I give it, and {repeat ad infinitum}. Earlier in 11.1, knetworkmanager simply connected and after a few seconds, I was online again. I didn't need to do anything manually. So I'm still on ethernet. Dev, guys, Any body else seeing yast software management crash after you have selected packages, are all done, and then you press "Accept"? [opensuse] KDE devs [ Classic (3.5) & 4 ] Great Job, Both Desktop Interfaces Look Great... Much Improved

Devs, Just dropping a note to say great job with both KDE Classic (3.5.10-51) and KDE 4.3.95 (44beta). KDE Classic is near flawless and KDE4 is much improved between 4.3.4 and 4.4 beta (from Factory). From a user prospective, it is obvious that a great amount of effort has been directed to both desktops and it is much appreciated. The striking difference in 44beta is the actual addition of kde4 tools (like the "Add Widget" drag&drop implementation, etc..) which for the first time look like what must have been envisioned when kde4 was conceived, but were not completed or ready for release until now. As more of the kde4 features are implemented, the 'vision' of what kde4 will be becomes clearer and why kde4 behaves in certain ways now makes more sense -- much of which has been indiscernible to date. There is some cool stuff here. There are a couple of regressions of note: (1) File 'Save/Save As' behavior for jpg files has regressed to jpeg. Following the bugzilla discussions, the plan was to have the 'save/save as' dialog default to saving a '.jpg' to prevent the conflict and incompatibility with the billions of existing .jpg files. 4.3.4 had corrected this. 4.3.95 has regressed to defaulting to .jpg. What's the story? (2) plasmoids for cpu & network monitors - still no way to set graph color (Anders, I know you told me how this works, but I cannot get it to work in 4.3.95 at all). (3) plasmoids for cpu & network monitors - graph lines disappear on widget resize and there is no way to get them back. Not monumental by any stretch, but they need to be fixed as 44beta moves forward. All in all, 4.3.95 is a good step forward for kde4 and the look and feel clearly show a great deal of work has been done on the desktop. It is a great daily driver and for anyone running 11.0+, the install is as simple as adding the following 3 repositories, opening yast software management and choosing 'Package -> Update All Packages -> Update if a newer version exists' and clicking 'Accept'. There were no new dependency issues with the update. repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.0/ repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.0_KDE4_Factory_Desktop/ repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Playground/openSUSE_11.0_KDE4_Factory_Desktop/ Also, for the work that has been done on KDE Classic (KDE 3.5.10), thank you Will and the rest! It really shows. KDE Classic is in such good shape that for older boxes that don't really run KDE4 well, having KDE 3.5.10 for the desktop is worth it's weight in gold. Further, with the newer decorations available for KDE3 (crystal, bespin, smooth, glow, system++ and the deKorator themes), the interface is not far from the kde4 look. I do have another issue with both kde's and compiz that appeared after yesterday's updates in addition to the fact there is not compiz-kde4 compatible with kde 4.3.X (the existing compiz-kde4 is for 4.0.4), but I'll include that in a separate post. [opensuse] RNDIS / WinMo6 / UMTS modem issues

Hi, I'm trying to use a Windows Mobile 6 phone as UMTS modem under openSUSE 11.2. (The same hardware setup works with Windows XP w/o any issues). Once I connect the phone NetworkManager gets the setup done and everything seems to work at this point. I can even ping internet hosts and can establish tcp connections. But once real data should be transferred everything just stops. Below is the log from connecting the device via USB. I don't really have an idea if the issues in the log are connected to the problem. I don't see more interesting information in the logfile when the connection fails. Anyone got something like this working or any idea what's wrong here? [opensuse] md RAID5 problem, Sata hard reset I/O error, ICH9R, driver bug in opensuse 11.2?

Hello! Has anyone else seen this problem? Could it be a bug in 11.2? Description: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I installed 11.2 on my server last weekend, moving from 11.0 (new install). For many years I've been running RAID5 over three partitions of three HDDs using md and ext3, without a hitch. I've also had other RAID constellations running in parallel on the same HDDs and others, also for years without any problems. When installing 11.2 I also changed the partitioning and created a new, otherwise identical RAID5 setup. However, when copying back the data from my backup the array suddenly broke down with 2 of the drives marked faulty and removed! I retried a number of times to try to understand what was happening. I tried both the default and the Xen kernel (both x86_64). I always got the same error. When testing, I saw that first one drive would get an exception and "hard reset" and be removed from the array - always the last raid device (2). This happened after copying several GB of data (usually after around 8 GB). If I then stopped and re-added the "faulty" drive it would get back in sync and I could continue copying another several GB until it got the hard reset again. If I didn't stop to re-add, then the second last raid device (1) would get a hard reset and be removed as faulty - obviously causing the 3-disk raid5 to break down. After trying this for a while I tried instead to create a RAID1 setup using the same 3 partitions and ext4. I've had no problems at all with this setup, filling 90% (about 80 GB) and running for 5 days. Worth mentioning is that I've never had any problems with these physical HDDs which are now around 4-5 years old. I'm also running root and other partitions and a few VMs using LVM and Xen from the very same HDDs. I checked smart incl long self test without finding any errors. I've been running exactly the same hardware for a few years without any problems. When googling a saw a similar problem reported but with nvidia (sata_nv) and some change introduce in the 2.6.26 kernel or around there. I don't know if this issue is related. [opensuse] Strange WiFi problem

Ok, this one has me stumped. I'm trying to figure out why the WiFi on a friend's netbook is not working right. Hardware/software: - Asus EeePC 1005HA-H - Atheros WiFi that is known to work well with the ath9k driver - openSUSE 11.2 and KDE.4.3.1 default install plus standard updates I have the exact same netbook model running openSUSE 11.2 and it works fine on my system. Now, what it's doing... we've enabled WiFi using the KNetworkManager, and entered the WEP key for his WiFi router. It finds his router fine, and requests/receives and IP address. But.. here's the weird part... he can't get past the router on the network. We can browse the local network, and even admin the router from the EeePC, but going past the router onto the internet just fails. We cannot ping etc anything outside the local LAP. If I connect my identical laptop into the same router, it's fine... receives an IP, and I have full access to the local LAN as well as the internet. If we connect his netbook to a CAT5 cable then everything works as expected. So.... WiFi is working on the netbook, we can access the LAN, but beyond that doesn't seem to exist. This is on a brand new default install of openSUSE. No extra apps added to the install. We've also reinstalled a couple of times just to see if something went odd in the install. Anyone have any ideas what is going on here? I don't know what to look for in the logs.... [opensuse] 11.0 Any other keepassx users? I'm still segfaulting - Sadly works fine from VirtualBox on the same box...

Listmates, Something was introduced a month or two ago in 11.0 that prevents keepassx from opening and causing it to segfault. When run from the command line, you receive the following error: 11:40 alchemy:~/.dcr> keepassx kpx.kdb Found Metastream: KPX_CUSTOM_ICONS_4 Found Metastream: KPX_GROUP_TREE_STATE Segmentation fault It isn't keepassx, it is some library somewhere because I can open the same database from VirtualBox (with a shared local directory being my ~/ directory) with the same version of keepassx running in XP. I can also open keepassx in Arch Linux without error. Are there any 11.0 keepassx users on the list that have a working install on 11.0? I'll try to find time to build the same version from source to enable debugging, but if anyone else out there is having similar problems or has a work-around, I would appreciate it if you would let me know.
