[opensuse] Attaching an icon to a pdf file

I have a number of pdf files which are full copies of Scientific American magazine issues. Most of these appear in Konqueror as icons which reduced copies of the issue's cover. Two of them however are shown with the generic Acrobat icon (all were downloaded in exactly the same way, from the same web page) The same web page also has separate pdf files containing the cover illustration alone. [opensuse] configuring postscript on 11.1

Hello :-) I always find Postscript config confusing and this don't change with openSUSE versions :-(. Time ago I went to the conclusion than it was best to remove (comment out) all the suse options (at the end of main.cf) and just adding "mydomain" and "myhostname". However I nerver feel confident with this. As I'm on the way of configuring a new server, I would like to be more suse-compliant :-)) The facts: Right now I have launched postfix (rcpostfix enabled in YaST and running), but not touched any other postfix file. I can see than I can send mails (with mailx) from the server to my home, but no mail sent from home reach the server (and no error is shown in /var/log/mail nor mail.err). YaST is of no use. In fact after some tries, I can no more send mail!! YaST MTA config only try to make sendmail work (?) and fetchmail fetch mail from a server what I don't want (I don't want to fetch external server for now) any help? [opensuse] Centrino dual, 1Ghz speed to 1.6Ghz, howto?

Hi list, - I'm on openSuSE11.1 on my DELL Precision M90, all (nearly) all is good. Except when I check (using KDE) for hardware info, I get that the CPU's are 1.6Ghz (at which speed the dual kernel used to run under 10.3), but I can't seem to get them to run faster that 1Ghz. I am using openSuSE 11.1 with KDE 4.2.4. When I try to enable desktop effects from "Cofigure Desktop" app I see the message: Compositing is not supported on your system. Required X extensions (XComposite and XDamage) are not available. With it being a while since we last compared many Linux distributions when it comes to their measurable desktop performance, we decided to run a new round of tests atop four of the most popular Linux distributions: OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Mandriva. To see where these Linux distributions are at, we used their latest development releases and then performed all package updates as of 2009-07-15. Following that, we ran an arsenal of tests using the Phoronix Test Suite. Hi, after the latest x.org update from the opensuse 11.1 update server, my system is no longer able to start the Gnome Desktop. Runlevel 5 hangs the system. x.org.log shows [....] (--) NV(0): MMIO registers at 0xF8000000 (II) Loading sub module "i2c" (II) LoadModule: "i2c" (II) Module "i2c" already built-in (II) Loading sub module "ddc" (II) LoadModule: "ddc" (II) Module "ddc" already built-in (II) NV(0): I2C bus "DDC" initialized. (II) NV(0): Probing for analog device on output A... (--) NV(0): ...found one (II) NV(0): Probing for analog device on output B... (--) NV(0): ...found one (II) NV(0): Probing for EDID on I2C bus A... and here is "exit to death". The same xorg.conf worked flawlessly before over two years. I did search the net for help, and found an article which told me to install the latest nvidia driver to solve the issue. I never used this driver on a production machine before, but I tried, and it did solve the issue. But I don't know why, and I'm not the X-Window specialist either. Has anybody an idea how I could switch back to "nv"? Yes, I tried to downgrade x.org and mesa, without success. I'm trying to build an image for a USB stick - openSUSE 11.0 - but I seem to be getting all kinds of weird and wonderful errors. [opensuse] Issues with evdev driver and keyboard?

Hello, I use openSUSE 11.1 with kernel 2.6.27.23-0.1, running KDE. I access both, the mouse and the keyboard with the evdev driver. The keyboard is connected via PS/2. The mouse works fine, but the keyboard sometimes stops working under KDE. So I wonder, is there a known issue with evdev and keyboards? As mentioned, the mouse runs perfect with evdev. I was configuring a fresh install of OpenSUSE 11.1 Linux. While I was working on the graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200) and display, I somehow set all pixels to 'white'. This severely limits use of a gui. :-) I've tried various ways to fix this but nada. My latest attempt was to reinstall everything from scratch. No change. My question: How can I get my monitor display back in a usable condition? [opensuse] Appearance of a new icon on my main panel

I have just noticed a new icon on my main panel. It looks like a globe of the Earth. When I click on it, it tells me only "new server", and asks which directory I want to share, and the address of the lucky server. The default address is the name of this computer on my LAN, so the arrival of the icon doesn't seem to be the result of foul play. On the other hand, I can't see any use for this thing, which calls itself "kpf". None of the usual repositories seem to know anything about kpf. How do I go about removing it from my machine? Hello everybody, I am seeing something really strange on that machine (haven't seen it anywhere else, hence I mentioned it). The text saying "Restart", "Shutdown" etc. in the logout menu is so bleak against its background as to be barely visible. The same is the case with the text denoting different icons grouped belonging to the same application in the task manager. Any idea why that would be? [opensuse] HELP - How to I delete a directory that won't die! (no rm -rf isn't the answer)

Listmates, I must have had a script go bad and completely screw up a file or two in a directory and now I cannot "ls" the directory, I cannot "rm -rf" the directory, but I can "mv" the directory and I can "cd" into the directory. The directory holds font files and I ran a script with "tr" in the scripts and I had the wrong arguments to tr and now there is a mess. The directory "V2" has the following properties: drwxrwxrwx 2 david dcr 128552960 2009-07-16 22:28 V2/ I booted to runlevel 1 and fsck'ed the disk and it is fine. So, I know this is one of those cases where I have screwed up the files in the directory well beyond my ability just delete them and I'm --- stuck. What is the best way to recover?? -- David C.
