[opensuse] JRE - how do I get it?

Good evening I use (not really) OpenSUSE 10.3 (computer is very old). After long struggles I somehow finally managed to install it. Yet, trying to use OpenOffice - newest version, not the one that is on the installation disk; will address this in a different message - I get an error message, telling me that I need JRE, because the one installed (?) is broken. [opensuse] Backups

Last year after our computer crashed I had no way of retrieving the backup for windows, with the help of a great guy Gary, luckely we were able to retrieve a lot of files. Now I am getting restless because I still don't really know how to back up windows and open suse and files, either directly or auto. Next question is, can I backup all stuff on dvd's. [opensuse] Tempo 3?

Hi all, I just got back from a job interview. The interviewer asked if I could program in Xml and Tempo 3. Xml I know (more or less), but I've never heard of Tempo 3, I googled for it and could not find it. Does anyone on the list know of it? Is there a link for it? [opensuse] Access to the Internet but not to mail using wicd and dhcp

I have a netbook (HP 2140) running OpenSuSE 11.1 (with KDE 3). I removed netwrokmanager (and knetworkmanager) and installes wicd. Both cards (ethernet wired and Wireless) are identified and working (the former is a "Marvell Ethernet controler" and the latter a "BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller". The wireless card runs thanks to ndiswrapper as the linux code would not compile). Both cards have been setup in Yast but are no more (yast shows them as "Not configured"). OK, I gave all these informations just in case, but I actually think I am missing some small config element. This is my problem: My home network runs both wired and wireless, fixed IP. So there is _no_ DHCP server available. At home: - if start the netbook without pluging in the ethernet cable, wicd shows my Wifi network (and that of the neighbours :). In "advanced settings" I setup all the fixed informations (IP, Netmask, Gateway, DNS). I can connect to the Internet and retrieve my mail (kmail, pop3). Everything is OK - if I start the netbook with the wired network plugged in (or if I plu it in and shut down the wireless), wicd finds the network and connects just as well as before. Now to the problem: At my school we have an unsecured, unencrypted, dhcp-based wireless network. I can connect to this network with wicd, leaving all the "advanced settings" empty (I guess this must mean "use DHCP for everything?) and I get access to the Internet (I can browse and access my webmail), but any try to retrieve mail gets an "unable to connect to [pop3]" message. I would say that if I can use google and access my webmail it means that DNS and Gateway are ok, so what can prevent accessing the pop3? Note that the kmail settings work from home, so it can't be that. Don't know if this is wicd or something in OpenSuSE, so I first try my luck here... If anyone has an idea, I'm a taker! [opensuse] /dev/mapper/_home ... how'd that happen?

I find I cannot write to my home directory echo "adasflkjasfd" > foo -bash: echo: write error: No space left on device seems related to this thing I've never seen before, and don't know how I inadvertantly got it: /dev/mapper/_home_mfischer.img on /home/mfischer type ext3 (rw) How do I get rid of that and get back to an ordinary home directory? Hi. I get this when I want to start up firefox: "Firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." [opensuse] Massive issues with multimedia

I am having many issues with multimedia that I can not figure out how to solve. Most videos will cause VLC or Kaffine to just exit without any errors. MPlayer can play the videos but then it constantly is flashing a message: [AO_ALSA] Unable to find simple control 'PCM',0.
