[opensuse] dhclient not updating resolv.conf

When I connect to the wireless (don't really know about wired) networks the resolv.conf is not by dhcp and so resolving domain names requires manual insertion of proper dns servers addresses. How can this be fixed? I think the problem is related to the upgrade to 11.1 but can't be sure. Should I include any more info? [opensuse] Knotify4 CPU usage

I have noticed that on 11.1 knotify4 seems to always be taking between 2-3% of the CPU. I wasn't sure if it was my setup or not so I setup a new user, logged in as that user, and still am seeing it take up between 2-3% of the CPU. I looked in bugzilla, but didn't see any bugs with this. I did a generic search with Google, and found some notes about knotify4 taking up lots of CPU, like 50% in general, but those appear to be resolved... Anyone else seeing this? [opensuse] Codecs in 11.1

Since the upgrade to 11.1 system is constantly missing codecs. It cannot play wma in amarok, mp4 (MPEG-4 AVC at 1 379 Kbps according to the description) in kaffeine... The error message for the latter is "No plugin found to handle this resource". Where can I get a decent codec pack for xine and/or yauap to forget about any problems like that? I had already installed codecs-kde.ymp from http://opensuse-community.org/Restricted_Formats/11.1. [opensuse] OpenSUSE 11.1 and Compiz (I know, again)

I had compiz working fine in 11 on athlon 3500 and geforce 6600, started on login by a little script ~/.kde/env/startcompiz: #!/bin/sh export KDEWM="fusion-icon" Unfortunately it stopped working after upgrade to 11.1 (done live on a running system). What is the canonical/recommended way to run compiz now? Preferably with my old settings. [opensuse] mounting ntfs partition

Hello, I can mount an NTFS partition and, as root, read and write to it, however I'd like all users to be able to read and write to it. This is in my /etc/fstab; /dev/disk/by-id/ieee1394-0010b9210090c0ab:000460:0000-part1 /maxraid1 ntfs-3g users,gid=users,fmask=133,dmask=022,locale=en_US.UTF-8 0 0 <snip> Using 'chmod' on the dir doesn't change the permissions either. d--------- 1 root users 4096 2009-01-02 09:21 maxraid1 What can I put in fstab to make this mount read/writeable to all users? [opensuse] Safest way to update kernel? or don't bother?

So, I'm using openSuSE 10.3 on a machine which is running in a headless configuration in a datacenter several hundred miles away. I have serial console access and can see some but not all of the boot-up over the serial console. Currently on kernel 2.6.22.18-0.2 (the SMP flavor, I think, if that makes any difference) zypper -v pchk says the box needs a kernel security update - how do I judge whether I should apply the update or not? (BTW, there are no local users on this machine other than me.) If I apply this update, is there a risk of the box failing to boot afterwards? This would be A Bad Thing. Is there a "safer" way to apply this update, perhaps by keeping the old kernel available in the grub boot menu?
