[opensuse] Successful install of OpenSuSE on Elitegroup nForce n430 based motherboard with MCP61 chipset

I have successfully installed OpenSuSE 11 on PC built from various component parts. In addition to the specification below, a second network card, a firewire card and a Nvidia GeForce 8500 graphics card was added. All hardware was recognized and configured relatively easily. The sound chip was not found by OpenSuSE 10.3 but 11.0 found it and configured it. OpenSuSE was installed without creating a dvd. The media on which the DVD iso was download was mounted using grub using the instructions on OpenSuSE's web site on to install without a CD from a local hard drive, which in this case was a USB drive recognized on boot. I hope this is of help to some of you. As reported on a separate thread, syslog reports that XDMCP socket could not be created and reports errorno 19. [opensuse] Cannot start X from OpenSUSE 11 Live CD

Hello, I cannot start the GUI from the OpenSUSE live CD. It tries to load several times and it cannot be loaded. I got a SaX2 message telling me that there it couldn't be loaded. When I try SaX2 to retry, it tries to load the X again, a lot of times, without results. Note: I have also tried with the Failsafe boot, without any result. PC specifications: - Intel Core 2 Duo processor 2.5Ghz - 1 GB RAM - ATI Radeon HD 2400 video card Thanks for your help. [opensuse] Firefox 3 and kprinter for PDF

Hi all, I usually print to PDF's with most programmes. In all I can choose a PostScript/default Printer and enter in the Properties under Print Command "kprinter". Then kprinter takes over and prints wherever or whatever I need; in this case PDF. How can I do that in Firefox 3's menu item Print. I can no longer enter a print command. (openSUSE 10.3 / FireFox 3.0). The print to File in FireFox is nice, but you have to enter the whole path every time you print a document, and it always uses the very first document name you used as print.ps (which actually kprinter also did, but the path was remembered though). [opensuse] 10.3 - kernel 2.6.22.18-0.2-default, toshiba_acpi.ko fails to install

Listmates, I am having a terrible time getting the toshiba utils to work properly in 10.3. Attempting to insert the module gives the following error: 14:45 alchemy~> sudo modprobe -v toshiba_acpi insmod /lib/modules/2.6.22.18-0.2-default/kernel/drivers/acpi/toshiba_acpi.ko FATAL: Error inserting toshiba_acpi (/lib/modules/2.6.22.18-0.2-default/kernel/drivers/acpi/toshiba_acpi.ko): No such device Additionally the installation of toshutils-2.0.1-1255 rpm fails to create the device in /proc/acpi. As I consequence I have no screen brightness control, etc. Does anybody have any idea how to go about troubleshooting this? Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. [opensuse] Difficulty in building recoll from srpm, openSuSE 10.3

Listmates: I am having difficulty building recoll from recoll-1.10.2-0.src.rpm. The first glitch required creating a soft link from /etc/profile.d/qt3.sh to /etc/profile.d/qt.sh. After that the build using "sudo rpmbuild --rebuild --target=i686 recoll-1.10.2-0.src.rpm" seemed to go fine and proceeded to successfully to the install stage. The install stage dies when it can't find "/src/moc: No such file or directory". Well of course it is right, there is no /src/moc, but there is a qtgui/.moc. Looking for a daily mailcheck on one of my accounts I am thinking of running cron. Read the man page of cron, crontab and are as ever after reading man pages, totally confused. Wiki was the second choice. Still confused. Is there a gui for cron? [opensuse] How to Fix webpin to work with 11.0

Listmates: webpin doesn't like 11.0. It looks like a simple version number needs to be added so it will recognize and work with 11.0. Neither the BuildService rpm or rebuilding from the .src.rpm work. [opensuse] 11.0 KDE4 Live - No wireless...

Toshiba Satellite x205 w/windoz Fisted booted 11.0 kde4 live-cd x86_64 everything appears to be recognized very well including sound, with following exceptions: screen size reported 1024x768, offered 1280x1000. took the 1280 and then used yast to set 1280x800@60hz. worked fine I cannot get wireless to connect. Intel 4965, module iwl4965 wpa-psk tried no encription, wpa w & w/o did rcnetwork wlan0 restart after each change ifconfig wlan0 does not get an address I have very little linux/wireless experience. [opensuse] v11.0 remote desktps lock up

I've just installed OpenSUSE 11.0 and one thing I've noticed is that remote desktop connections via XDMCP result in the lock up of the computer trying to access the system. This has occurred with two different computers, running v10.3. Another system running Ubuntu simply won't connect at all!
