Is there additional output? Maybe your X authentication fails. Is your ~/.Xauthority on `fail' writable by you? Call "xauth info" on `fail' to check that. It must output something like puma:bin $ xauth info Authority file: /home/schrod/.Xauthority File new: no File locked: no Number of entries: 640 Changes honored: yes Changes made: no Current input: (argv):1 (As you can see, I do a lot of remote X connections... :-) Btw, it is definitively not necessary to set $DISPLAY on the local host before calling ssh, as recommended by Sam. ":0" is a perfectly good value for a local session. Your ssh client can connect to :0 fine (this is done via Unix domain sockets), no need to force a TCP connection to port 6000. In fact, Sam's proposal is not good performance-wise, as it turns a /unix X session into a TCP X session and adds another TCP hop to the forwarded X session, increasing latency. [opensuse] New 10.3 install -- firefox for non-root users displays no graphics?

Hello, Last week I finished an install of OpenSuSE 10.3 x_64 on a Intel quad core cpu. The install went smoothly, but there is an odd problem. When I run firefox as root, everything looks fine. But if I run firefox as a regular user, the firefox window displays no graphics. Neither firefox's icons nor any graphics in the main display window appear. Assuming it was some sort of odd permissions problem (since it works for root) I turned off AppArmor, but that didn't make any difference. I get this behavior under both icewm and KDE, but I don't think the window manager has anything to do with it since I can su root and then run firefox fine, but when I exit the su and try to run firefox again it has the problem described above. [opensuse] firefox upgrading problem

Hey, guys I got a firefox update failure today when I tried to install packages from yast2 (software management-package-all packages-update if newer version is available). The error message is below. So whats wrong? Is this a bug or something else? BTW, I could not use gmail.com to send email to this list but I do can use evolution. So anyone knows how to deal with this? In reading the man page, I don't see how I can set xinetd to write it's debug output to a file. Both -filelog and -syslog, in the man page, are said to be useless. Hello; I'm looking for nvidia drivers for SuSE 9.1. While the Novell site is very fancy, it seems to change often, and now I cannot find where all of the old SuSE rpms are located. [opensuse] 32bit Linux also limited to 3GB RAM??

Hello, I recently bought a Thinkpad T60p that was sold with 3GB of RAM. The seller advertised "free 4GB upgrade", although I did not care much. When the Laptop arrived, I kept WinXP on it (as I had paid the license...), and it said 3GB (I know it won't see more anyway with WIn 32bit). I installed 10.3 in 32bit as well (I have no specific use for 64bit and various driver issues make me stick to 32bit for the moment). Linux (well, KDE) also showed 3GB, so I concluded that there had been no "free 4GB upgrade", period. Today I tried a modified Mac OS X install disk (uphuck 1.3) just to see, out of curiosity, what hardware would be identified - and the OS X installer reported 4GB. So does the Bios, now that I looked at it. I have not installed OS X, so it may be that part of the memory is allocated to the GPU (although the T60p has, unfortunately, the ATI FireGL 5250 and I think it has it's own memory). I'm running the 2.6.22.17-0.1-bigsmp kernel. Should I change the kernel to use the 4GB? Or switch to 64Bit? Not that I really need the extra 1GB, it's just a little stupid to have this memory sitting there unused.... I've read several posts about this problem, but they were unclear, saying it could be the chipset, the kernel, etc... Is there a clear answer?
