[opensuse] Upgrade 10.2 to 10.3 failure

Hi, I'm having a problem upgrading 10.2 to 10.3. I have downloaded the DVD and checked the md5sum. I tried upgrading by adding the iso as a repository and the update site, and then running an update. This is how I did the upgrade from 10.2 to 10.2. This failed as it was impossible to resolve all the conflicts. While trying to resolve them all, the system became unusable. So, I tried to boot from the DVD and repair the install. The install from the DVD firstly wouldn't recognise one of the video card (an ati) or the screen (19" widescreen), so it dropped back to text mode. The install then failed, and didn't provide any explanation. It just repeatedly dropped back to yast at the "Start Installation or upgrade" menu. So, I saved the essential bits of the configurations and did a clean install of 10.2 (with reformatting the partitions) with a minimal system. This worked fine. I have updated 10.2 to the latest versions of everything and am now trying to upgrade as explained here http://en.opensuse.org/Updating_SUSE_Linux. It's failing. When I try to run any of Software management, Update or Online update, yast2 complains that it can't read the package files from the cache directory and disables the 10.3 repositories. Does anyone know how I can complete this upgrade, or do I have to stay at 10.2 for ever! [opensuse] Update mirror sites?

I hope the threads mentioning that the opensuse update re-director is down explain why I was unable to update last night or today...? I could hit packman and all the others, but not the suse update source. I was just about to blame Sprint, thinking they were tired of all my downloads :-( Per the comments to use mirror sites, I looked in the listing of all mirrors, and none of them mention having the updates available. [opensuse] Window Preview

Using 10.3 KDE3 and compiz-fusion. I can not get compiz to do window preview. In the compiz manager, i have window preview selected and i have, unchecked, under the taskbar heading, "taskbar shows only windows of current viewport". Still when apps are minimized, i do not get a window preview. i have the window decorator as Compiz, compiz options, nothing is checked. The window manager is compiz, still no window previews. Attached is the "preview" that i am getting (kde preview) (Well, the file was too big and the list would not accept it). All i get is the kde preview text. [opensuse] Reinstall KDE4.

I had updated KDE4 to the most recent version 4.01. Now when I start it , none of the widgets (icons?) are shown. There are just items containing the message that the object cannot be displayed. In addition there is no wallpaper or taskbar. One possibility that comes to mind is that I never removed prior versions before installing a new version. What would be the best way to remove what is there so that a new install would be on fresh ground (so to speak). Thanks for any comments... [opensuse] Amarok update

Using 10.3 and do not have amarok installed, but in the updater i get this annoying reminder that there is an updeate for amarok. I click on install and do not get any errors but the amarok update reminder never goes away. It is always checked and i can not seem to get it to go away. SUSE 10.2. I just updated my kernel (security fix) to version 2.6.18.8-0.9-bigsmp from 2.6.18.8-0.8-bigsmp and my suseupdater and online update are no longer working to the http://download/opensuse.org repositories. [opensuse] Follow-Up my Desperate Situation

Since it seems not to be able to read from SuSE DVD installation kit any more, how can I install from the network ? Maybe my current installation, enriched/spoilt by the many on-line updates, is preventing CrossOver from working on his own as I have unistalled wine. Please, refresh my mind about avoiding reformatting/covering the /home partition ... although I have bckups ... It's a lot of work to get R and JGR etc ... working again. Should I re-enable he on-line updates from the repositories ? If the answer is "YES" than which repositories are SAFE ? I would restart from a clean installation anyway. God knows how many patches have been added in the meantime ... [opensuse] freespace calculation bug or not

Hi folks, In my home directory I have a link. ln -s /mnt/store store Store is a partition of 250 GB, My home directory is 10GB If I write some (large) files via this link to a directory in store then they are substracted from the freeblocks of my home directory. If the system thinks that my home dir is full (which isn't true) then all programs that have to write in my homedir stop. Then I have to reboot to cleanup this wrong disc-calculations. Startuplog: Home (/dev/sda9): recovering journal Home (/dev/sda9): Clearing orphaned inode 16742 (uid=1000, gid=100, mode=040755, size=4096) Home (/dev/sda9): Clearing orphaned inode 16754 (uid=0, gid=0, mode=0100644, size=6320340992) Home (/dev/sda9): clean, 17849/1310720 files, 1072543/2620595 blocks If it is a bug, on which part kernel,kde or some other part.
