[opensuse] NFS, openSUSE 10.0 and 10.3

Hello I have encountered an unexpected problem with the nfs client on openSUSE 10.3. Even as root, I cannot mount an NFS share from a 10.0 system on a 10.3 client. I have searched the archives and do not see this problem. I have seen reports of mounts not happening at boot or of non-root users not being able to mount things. This is not what I am experiencing. I can mount between two 10.3 systems. Or between two 10.0 systems. And, 10.0 can mount from a 10.3 system. Only mounting on a 10.3 client system from a 10.0 server fails. I have the things exported on the 10.0 server as: /home *(rw,no_root_squash,sync) On the 10.0 server, I see this in /var/log/messages: rpc.mountd: authenticated mount request from vmic1.pacific:761 for /home (/home) No complaints. However, on the 10.3 client, I get: # mount -t nfs 10.1.6.131:/home /tmp/qqq mount: 10.1.6.131:/home failed, reason given by server: Permission denied This happens for all 10.3 systems I have. So if I am doing something wrong, I am at least consistent. Anyone else have this problem? Any pointer as to how I can get more information about the problem? [opensuse] FireGL V5250 screen corruption

Hello, I just got a Thinkpad T60p widescreen. I managed to install the ATI driver from the repository provided, and basic use is OK at 160x1050. However, several apps have a problem displaying correct pictures, the three I have identified so far are ksquirrel, Google Earth and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I googled a lot about this, but what I found is a little confusing. what I got out of all this is that the current ATI drivers suck, probably when an application requires some features of OpenGL. Anyone has more precise information, is there any tuning possible or, as I just read, "wait for another ten years and hope that ATI gets it working"? [opensuse] bash - why doesn't the tldp bash beginners guide for loop example work?

Listmates, I have run into a bash problem with a simple for loop I don't understand and would like input from the gurus to determine if the tldp documentation is in error or if it is me. Safe money says it's me, but here is the situation. I am using example 9.1.2.2. from the following link to construct a simple for loop to extract a directory full of zip files: http://tldp.org/LDP/Bash-Beginners-Guide/html/sect_09_01.html The example give is: [carol@octarine ~/html] cat html2php.sh #!/bin/bash # specific conversion script for my html files to php LIST="$(ls *.html)" for i in "$LIST"; do NEWNAME=$(ls "$i" | sed -e 's/html/php/') cat beginfile > "$NEWNAME" cat "$i" | sed -e '1,25d' | tac | sed -e '1,21d'| tac >> "$NEWNAME" cat endfile >> "$NEWNAME" done So I created the following: #!/bin/bash LIST="$(ls *.zip)" for i in "$LIST"; do unzip $i -d /mnt/nemesis-cfg/home/samba/computer/software/fonts/extract echo "Unzipped: $i to ../extract" done exit 0 It didn't work?? The echo statement showed that $i was receiving the entire $LIST and the loop was only executing once instead of once for each entry in $LIST. Fiddling with it, I got it to work by removing the quotes "" from $LIST in the loop definition like this: #!/bin/bash LIST="$(ls *.zip)" for i in $LIST; do unzip $i -d /mnt/nemesis-cfg/home/samba/computer/software/fonts/extract echo "Unzipped: $i to ../extract" done exit 0 I understand enough to realize the quotes affect bash expansion, but I am curious as to whether the tldp example is in error. It's amazing in this day & age that so many people think defragging is a normal part of computing. I suppose they still use a crank to start their cars. I can't understand why MS hasn't moved to a new file system. And why isn't NTFS fragmentation resistant? It's newer than HPFS, which NT was originally designed to run on. [opensuse] What's filling swap

I just upgraded to 10.3 this month. When I was running 9.3 I rarely touched swap, now after a few days without logging off the system monitor shows it filling up. Is there a command that can tell me what is filling swap, I haven't been running BOINC since the migration, I usually have firefox and kmail open and a terminal. [opensuse] More 10.2 -> 10.3 problems - network this time

Hi People. I have more problems with my upgrade 10.2 to 10.3, this time network cards. The NIC (Netgear FA310TX) worked fine under 10.2 and works fine under 10.2 live DVD & Knoppix "out of the box". Under 10.3 it's not working. Tulip driver in all cases. Under 10.3 clean install from DVD (no updates yet!) I can see that it's transmitting packets to the network - the DHCP server is receiving and responding to them. Wireshark is registering the packets going out but isn't registering anything received, even with the firewall disabled. If I manually enter the details (IP address, subnet, gateway, DNS entries) I get exactly the same result from wireshark. I can't see anywhere which will show me the speed & duplex and can't find anywhere where I can set them - mii-tool is missing & ethtool won't talk to the card. Can anyone tell me what the problem is / what to check next / how to fix this? [opensuse] How can the common users use VirtualBox's USB device?

Hello,community.I'm a newer. I installed VirtualBox1.54 in openSuse 10.3. If I run it as root, everything is ok. But, if as the common users, I can't use the USB device in virtual machine. Which device's property must be chmod? By the way, my main usb device is a printer. Thanks. [opensuse] cannot mount iPod in openSUSE10.2

I have been trying to figure out why I can no longer mount an iPod Nano on my openSUSE 10.2 install. Previously the iPod worked perfectly... so well in fact that my partner preferred to connect her iPod to my machine and use Amarok over iTunes on her laptop running XP. Now, it is not picked up at all when we plug it into the USB port. lsusb shows nothing new connected. All other permanently connected USB devices work fine (Cherry keyboard, Logitech mouse, Logitech joystick, Logitech headset). Any other new USB device I connect works as well (USB drive, card reader, Nokia N800). It is only the iPod that does nothing. Another thread on this mailing list that I was reading this morning made me wonder if a change I made to the fstab for the USB would affect the iPod this way. To enable USB in VirtualBox I changed the USB line from: =========== usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0 =========== to: =========== usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=1001,devmode=664 0 0 =========== Does anyone here know iPods enough to know if this small change would prevent the iPod from being detected when it it plugged into the USB port?
