[opensuse] openSuSE 11.1 Beta 5 and KDE4 NV audio

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey Group; Well it seems time to subscribe again. I recently downloaded Beta 5 and installed it from a DVD. One notable change is yast/fdisk. It seems that the passed issue with /dev/hd[abcd] being converted to /dev/sd[abcd] has reverted back to the hd[abcd] non SCSI again. The biggest pain in the tail is Gstreamer related headache with any audio in KDE4.1. This system has a NVidia AC97 chip that yast2>harware>sound finds correctly. However KDE4.1 and Gstreamer fails to correctly ID. It comes up with something like AC650. So, KDE 4.1 audio fails, amarok fails. In a passed version of Gstreamer it worked but failed to start up with something softer than full blast. In the passed I would compile and install xine-lib and xine-ui and amarok-xine and amarok worked once xine and dump Gstreamer/yuapp (sp). Hi all, I need to reduce the logging in the /var/log/messages file. I do not want the webserver activities logged on this server. Hi, I just resintalled VirtualBox and I am getting this error... ./VirtualBox: line 1: /usr/lib64/virtualbox/VirtualBox: Permission denied Anyone else know what this is and how to fix it. (And the other posters who recommeded to use xargs might want to read your post again.) sudo's notion of allowed argument list length differs from xargs. xarg's notion is probably right for Linux, and sudo's notion is safe for a wide variety of Unix systems. Try find . -type f -print0 | sudo xargs -0 chmod 0644 that should do the trick. This way sudo gets only 4 arguments, and not thousands. Semantically, it's the same. Listmates, I was trying to use chmod, but it says: 12:44 nirvana/srv/www/download> find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 sudo chmod 0644 sudo: unable to execute /bin/chmod: Argument list too long How long is too long? How many files will chmod do, or does it depend on the length of file names? There are only 5590 files beneath this directory: 12:47 nirvana/srv/www/download> find . -type f | wc -l 5590 To accomplish what I wanted to do I had to change the find call to: sudo find . -type f -exec sudo chmod 0644 '{}' \; This is much...much... slower. How big is the chmod limitation and is there a better way to get around this limitation? -- David C. [opensuse] Recording ...

Is there a tool suited to recording voice? I can see how to fudge Skype, but that's a bit involved. I can record on my cell phone and upload, but the sound quality is awful! Isn't there something like a plug-in for mplayer? -- Me...a skeptic? [opensuse] 11.0 Boxed set from Novell

Ok, I recently picked up a DVD drive for my Powerbook Wallstreet. However, none of the DVDs I have made will work with it. It is an OLD DVD drive, and I can't swap it for a newer one because of the way it is made(trust me I tried - proprietary interface). It will read a DVD movie disc just fine(and I have a DVD decoder coming for it, so that's cool). So, I went to Novell's website and was looking to order the media, and I couldn't find a way to select which version I needed. Am I missing something? [opensuse] Notebook docking station

How can I configure openSUSE to work with my notebook docking station? It needs to switch resolution and switch which monitor is used whenever it is docked or undocked. [opensuse] for those, who has intel graphics and uses 11.1 betas

Hi, I have OpenSUSE 11.0 on notebook hp pavilion dv6000 with build-in intel graphics. I had problem with hanging opengl applications on it: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18489 Then updated X.org from Factory and the problem was solved, opengl applications do not hang anymore, but another problem did appear - the screen is corrupted with multiple artifacts when I run opengl applications. I have posted the bug here (there is also attached screenshot there): https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18517 But there were a suggestion to update my kernel drm module, and I do not feel like installing new kernel from sources or to download the image of 11.1 betas. So, if someone has intel build in graphics and uses newer kernel from 11.1 betas - please confirm if the problem still exists, or if it has already been solved.
