[opensuse] Virtual machine with Windows

Hello guys, i want to run virtual machine with windows some time from my current Linux Suse 10.2 desktop. In windows i use "Bank client" software. This software can be used only in windows + IE ;) Right now i use VMware player. What other soft can be used for create and run of VM with Windows? I have some experiment with quemu, but it is extremely slow... Kvm and Xen is not run on my processor (AMD 64, but without support of virtualization) kqemu can help me? and where i can find this package for current version of my Suse 10.2 64 bit and kernel? [opensuse] Repositories question

Hi, When Linux is mentioned the word, and possibly its biggest benefit, repositories, also comes into play. I understand a repository as a software update store, where, once updates have been released and tested, are placed i.e. similar to TUCOWS for the other operating system. It is my understanding that some of the repositories carry all the updates to all the packages, whilst some only keep security fixes and critical updates. I only use rpm updates that Yast picks up as it enables the resolution of package dependencies in a GUI format before the update tries to take place. I am currently using the skynet.be mirror for updates and recently saw a post about source repositories. ftp://ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/update/10.2 http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/ftp.suse.com/suse/update/10.2/ http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/n… http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/o… Two of the repositories that were of interest mentioned were: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.2/repo/src-oss/suse http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.2/repo/src-non-oss/suse How do these repositories differ from Skynet ones? Are the less/more complete than the one I am currently using or are the skynet ones merely a mirror? Should I add the new mentioned repos? Would they conflict with the current ones as I see the folder structure is almost identical? When I browse to the location I see a whole stack of rpms, but I assume these are src rpms not package rpms and that Yast would not be able to install an update to an rpm package from a rpm src package. Help required in understanding the role of repos and how to use them/determine if one is better than another. What if a repo isn't available, due to network problems, can another repo be added and used as a fallback repo? [opensuse] Icons on the Desktop

I use 10.2 and have Audacity and Lyx on the Desktop. When I adjust the right icon for one of them, the other changes too. Anybody knows how to solve this little problem? [opensuse] kmail rare crash troubleshooting help needed

Been using kmail as long as I have been using suse, in general i am very happy with it. I have never lost an email and I have always been able to transfer it to a new home partition when i changed suse versions, kmail versions, kde versions, drives or partitions. But this changed lately. In the past month I had two incidents where a received email shows blank and clicking on it crashes and closes kmail. I suspect something gets corrupted in the transfer from the provider, and of course they are a windoze operation (roadrunner), so I can not expect any help from them. I would appreciate some help in tracking this new development down, actually i don't even know where to start... The incidence is extremely low, I get about 200 emails a day, about half are deleted immediately, the rest just browsed and less than 10% avoid deletion, however the two lost emails were from known sources and would not have been deleted. my system is suse 10.2 . [opensuse] just an info about outlook express

This is not OT because it's about sending openoffice documents to outlook express users. OE is smart enough to prevent windows users to read openoffice documents... believe it or not. [opensuse] Linux-friendly PCMCIA Wireless Card?

Is there such a thing? I've had more problems than anyone deserves trying to get two laptops (Toshiba and Lenovo) to communicate with my 211g network using the onboard wireless network adapters, and it occurred to me that perhaps there's one on a card that I could use instead. Has anyone here done that, and can recommend a brand/model that will surely be recognized and used by openSuSE 10.2? If so, I'd love to try one, because up to now, the only way I can get network access with those machines is to plug 'em in with a cable. Obviously that defeats the whole purpose of a portable computer. I like to be able to browse the net and answer email downstairs, in my recliner, during commercial breaks on TV, but so far, I can do that only in Windows. [opensuse] cardbus PCI adaptor

I have bought a cheapo cardbus to PCI adaptor for my desktop system running 10.1 so I can use some memory cards that I share with the laptop. Kinfo centre lists the adaptor in the PCI section, and an inserted memory card which it declares to be an unknown device. This same memory card is easily recognised when plugged into a cardbus to USB adaptor. IS there anyway to set up the cardbus adaptor to hot plug like it would in a laptop, or via the USB adaptor? [opensuse] updates/bugfixes from KDE and GNOME and Mozilla - vs - Version Control

I very very seldom ever see a bug fix or an enhancement of a KDE or GNOME specific application or feature. Does KDE and GNOME publish their updates to SUSE or do we have to put up with solved errors until KDE or GNOME release a new version with many many fixes and features added and then wait until SUSE has enough fixes for feature updates to release a new version. I really don't understand why the Enterprise Version can release a service pack update and the open version releases updates which are either security or major bug fixes. Mind you the idea of the Enterprise version releasing a SP that is beta is beyond belief. If we can update the kernel from time to time then surely it would make sense to update a version up until functionally it is impossible. I cannot help but think an enormous amount of man hours is spend on releasing a new version when those hours could be perhaps better spent on fixing bugs and providing enhancements via update. I really don't mean to be critical, or just plain objectionable, however I really don't understand SUSE development cycle and version control. Under conventional version control a new version is released when a massive fundamental change has to be made to the underlying O/S. For example Windows 2000/ME changed to a new release of XP because of the creation of visual themes controlling the display and Netware 2.x changed to 3.x because of install and NLM's and Netware 3.x changed to 4.x because of NDS. Could someone who knows please explain this without being malevolent. Thanks Scott

[opensuse] Mouse not responsing

I wrote about this about 2 weeks ago with no response. Noew I have more info. Suse 9.3. When I boot up, I have to perform the following each time in order to be able to use the mose: Alt-F1 -> select System -> Select Terminal -> Select Konsole su -> (password) yast select hardware -> select mouse -> select ps2 mouse -> select test (mouse works) -> select accept -> select quit It sounds like the mouse config is no being written to disk. [opensuse] RE: Damaged Master Boot Record

I have 3 HDD in my PC. No matter which Disk I partition to be the boot drive via the GUI Partitioner, I cannot boot the PC from HDD. I am sure the MBR is corrupted - I am using GRUB with NO NTFS Partitions. I cannot find many clear directions on how to re-write the MBR. Can some one please help me with a few clear directions on how to correct this - Perhaps after replying to me you might like to consider writing a SDB page on this as there is little info on this Thanks Scott
