[opensuse] Oracle support for PHP, perl and other apps

Hi, there's a thread on opensuse-buildservice about having support for oracle on php, perl, and other apps like tora, plus adding a quick solution for end users to build oracle-instantclient packages. Although Opensuse can't provide a binary package for oracle-instantclient because of legal issues (mostly involving countries banned by the USA government and redistribution of the client), we could still be able to build packages against it (like php, tora, perl-DBD-Oracle) and distribute them (pretty much like the Sun SDK is handled now on buildservice), plus adding a nosrc package so the end users can fix the dependencies quickly. Already sent a mail to oracle about the redistribution limitation, but as there's no answer (yet), this is the only workaround. Is there anyone interested?, if there's enough people needing this it could be a reality, would you like to comment? [opensuse] Remove old kernels?

Hello SuSE people, I have 3 old kernels in my /usr/src. They take up a lot of space. I'd like to get rid of them but I get really chicken when it comes to deleting kernels. Is it safe? [opensuse] Suse 10.2

Hi, I have the OpenSuse 10.2 DVD from Linux Format magazine. I was going to install it in a dual-boot arrangement with XP. However, based on what I have read, during the installation, it asks you to choose your desktop (KDE, GNOME, XFCE, or whatever). While I don't have any distribution installed at present, previous installations allowed you to choose the desktop you wanted to use when you booted. Is there a way to install all available desktops/windows managers and then choose the one you want to use when you boot? Many thanks in advance. [opensuse] Smart kernel replacement

Hello Been using smart for quite awhile now. Works great except for one thing. When there is a kernel update smart replaces it. Don't want that. I want the multiple kernels. I've brought up this and another issue on the labix list in the past and never get any answers. I set a flag for "lock" on the kernel and I also set a flag for "multi-version" on the kernel. Seems that smart is ignoring that and only the new kernel is found in /boot. Am I not doing this correctly? I have four different kernels in /usr/src if that means anything, including the previous and newly updated one. [opensuse] 10.2 and e1000 == checksum not valid

All, I'm trying to install 10.2 on to an a several year old Intel MB. The MB has a e1000 built-in nic. When the e1000 module attempts to be loaded I'm getting a "eeprom checksum not valid" error. Doing some googling I see references to trying: modprobe e1000 eeprom_bad_csum_allow=1 for newer kernels, but on the 10.2 kernel it is an invalid argument. Any ideas? FYI: It is possible that the NIC is bad, but I don't think so. During the install I put in a pci based nic and got all the updates as of a couple weeks ago, so I have a new Suse 10.2 kernel. (Took a week off, so I'm back trying to resolve this now.) [opensuse] iPod Kipi-plugin is missing?

Hi all, When I update (via YaST, openSUSE 10.2) the kipi-plugins from the installed version 0.1.3-100.pm.2 to the available version 0.1.4-100.pm.2, I lose the 'export to iPod' functionality. This function appears in the tools menu in (for example) digiKam and Gwenview. Does anybody know the reason and (even better) a solution for this? Of course, one solution is to stay with version 0.1.3, but... [opensuse] htdig and other search engines

Hi, can anyone recommend an web-based search tool that I can use to index and search our document server. At the moment Im using htdig, but the fact that it was last updated in 2004 and it cant do partial word searches is making me reconsider. Must be able to parse MSOfficeDocs/ODF/PDF/txt/html.
