Does anyone know if SUSE plans to release a version of OpenOffice with GStreamer? Here is some history from an OpenOffice list discussion. Cheers, Bob Since wav files and other media play fine using OpenOffice under XP I think it would be most critical to get this functionality working under Linux. The second url is a search for MS appliances. None looked like Win 3.1, but maybe one could work. Maybe somebody could make a 3.1 appliance for him? I have a suse 10.2 joined to a Windows 2003 Domain and my Domain user can logon and I can work as well but I can't mount peripherials (CD, DVD; USB Keys....) because by default HAL seems to ignore the existance of my user; the exact error is: rejected message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "Mount" error name "(unser)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal". Searching for some info on the web I found a thread on a russian suse forum (http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:U305nY6p4isJ:lists4.opensuse.org/opens…) and I followed it so I have added the line ; *; *; Al0000-2400; dialout, video, cdrom, audio to the file /etc/security/group.conf and auth optional pam_group.so to the file /etc/*pam*.d/common-auth. [opensuse] RE: Damaged Master Boot Record

I have 3 HDD in my PC. No matter which Disk I partition to be the boot drive via the GUI Partitioner, I cannot boot the PC from HDD. I am sure the MBR is corrupted - I am using GRUB with NO NTFS Partitions. I cannot find many clear directions on how to re-write the MBR. Can some one please help me with a few clear directions on how to correct this - Perhaps after replying to me you might like to consider writing a SDB page on this as there is little info on this Thanks Scott

[opensuse] Scanner operation broken in opensuse 10.2

A few months ago, I used my HP Scanjet 5300C on Suse 10.2 with no problems. Now, it is a hit or miss process, mostly miss. I go to Yast, Hardware, Scanner, the scanner was listed using the avision driver. I do a test, the test passes. Go to OpenOffice Draw, Insert picture, from scanner,then select scanner. No scanner shows up. Go to Kooka, it also does not find the scanner. Try Xsane, takes about 10 minutes to get open, but also cannot find the scanner. Kooka did work one time after going to yast and running a test on the scanner, but then no more. Nothing shows up in the system log other than where yast installed it when I edited the scanner setup with no changes. Apparently, one of the upgrades changed something the scanning system does not like. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I checked the bugzilla report (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=141079) mentioned in a previous thread, but that does not seem to be quite the same. [opensuse] Formatting error (-1012) when installing Opensuse 10.2

Hi all, I'm trying to install Opesuse 10.2 on a Dell D620 with an 80GB SATA drive (with 2GB RAM). The installation fails at the point where Yast tries to format the disk space allocated to it. The following error is reported: Failure occurred during the following action: Setting type of partition /dev/sda6 to 83 System error code was: -1012 My progress has been as follows: Attempt 1: Standard network install using mini ISO. I accepted the default partitioning scheme. Yast happily created a 2GB swap partition, a 10GB home partition and a 7.7 GB root partition. Having accepted this scheme, it fails with the above error. Attempt 2: Just in case there's something fishy about having a 2GB swap partition, I planned to resize this to 1GB. On retrying, Yast couldn't understand the partition table and refused to make any changes. Luckily windows could still boot and put things back to the original state. Attempt 3: Go into expert mode and manually create a 1GB swap partition and a 19GB root partition (no separate home partition this time). Same failure occurs Attempt 4: Use windows to create the required partitions (1GB and 19GB) and tell Yast to use these partition rather than create it's own. Same failure occurs. A bit of Googl'ing suggests that error 1012 means that the partition table cannot be written to (but I could be wrong). Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot or work around this? I can't find any mention of it on the Suse support db or mailing lists that sound relevant. [opensuse] Displaying ink levels on a printer

Is there a way to get ether cups or the YaST printer module to display the ink levels on printers? I have a Lexmark x1240, using the Lexmark z600 printer driver installed on my 10.2 box, but it doesn't tell me about the ink levels and its pretty annoying to have to wait until the print quality starts to suck before I know that I need to go out and buy more ink.

I have a lot of semi-useful documents that I want to archive using my flatbed scanner. Im willing to manually place each piece of paper on the scanner but need some software to manage the capture - bind - output to PDF part. Something like this. 1. Set some settings, page size, PDF settings etc - Save 2. Place page 1, press Scan 3. Place page 2, press Scan 4. dito 5. etc 6. Press Stop 7. Prompt for Filename 7. Save pages as one doc as PDF. 8. Goto 2.
