[opensuse] how to change login screen?

Hello, How can I change the login screen? (if this is not the correct name: I mean that screen that appears when booting is cmplete or when you log out as a user, where you choose which user to use and enter the password). I am on Suse 10.0, just updated KDE to 3.5.7 - and now I have the new blue Suse login screen, but I'd prefer to have my old one... I had this problem once before and I know I must just change something in a file - but I forgot what and which file and googling didn't help. [opensuse] Problem with kmail composer

I have Kmail 1.9.7 installed on my openSUSE 10.2 box, when I am writing a message with kmail and I get to the end of a line I can tell that wordwrap is working but composer only moves the slider bar half way so it cuts off some of the text at the start of the line. Is this something that can be fixed by playing around with Kmails settings?

[opensuse] Filesystem becomes read-only

I am using Suse 10.2 on two different machines. One is a new Dell Poweredge 2970, the other is an older (2002) "no-name" server. Both have experienced a strange and severe problem since I installed Suse. Basically the file system is put into a read-only state. While the OS and all apps are still running and I can log in a view files/logs etc. nothing can write to the disks. Obviously this causes all kinds of problems. The only way to get the filesystem into a more interactive state is a hard reboot. The first two times this occurred, there were messages in the /var/log/messages file relating to megasas, however as soon as the system was restarted, these warnings disappeared. I believe the file was not actually written to the disk when the system freaked out so once logging resumed those entries were lost. The messages are somewhat similar to these that I found via a Google search: sd 1:2:0:0: megasas: RESET -286287 cmd=8a megasas: [ 0]waiting for 12 commands to complete megasas: [ 5]waiting for 12 commands to complete megasas: [10]waiting for 12 commands to complete megasas: [15]waiting for 12 commands to complete ... megasas: [170]waiting for 12 commands to complete megasas: [175]waiting for 12 commands to complete megasas: failed to do reset sd 1:2:0:0: megasas: RESET -286287 cmd=8a megasas: cannot recover from previous reset failures sd 1:2:0:0: megasas: RESET -286287 cmd=8a megasas: cannot recover from previous reset failures sd 1:2:0:0: scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery Saturday the problem happened on the Dell server, although this time there is no mention of megasas in the logs files. A search of this list did not find any reference to megasas and all too many unrelated results for a read-only filesystem :). System Specs: Dell PowerEdge 2970 Opteron 2.0GHz 64-bit 4 GB memory 3x 73GB Hard Drive (RAID 5) PERC 5i "No-name server" Dual P3 1GHz 1GB memory Dual 36GB hard drives (no RAID) I appreciate any help. Let me know if more information is needed. [opensuse] Yast 2 software install /update problems second post

Hi . I have Suse 10.2 x86_64 on my laptop that works very well apart from a recent problem i am having when trying to update the system on line or install new software yast will read the DVD and the on-line repositories the actual selection screen wil appear but the progress bar will stay showing "reading index" this box will not go away and if i do cancell it the the complete yast software screen dissapeares this started happening after a recent online update , Does anyone know of a fix for this . I make a bootable disk, and I can start to install the SUSE, but when it tries to find the autoyast file, it can't find it, and I write the kernel parameter like this : title SUSE 10 Installation root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/linux root=/dev/sda1 ramdisk_size=8192 install=hd://sda1/SUSE autoyast=device://sda1/autoinst.xml splash=silent showopts initrd /boot/initrd When I try autoyast=device://sda1/autoinst.xml, the error is , "An error occurred while fetching the profile: File /tmp/Yast2-02878-KeDBUh/tmp_mount/autoinst.xml cannot be found" And when I use file:///autoinst.xml and default, the error is, "An error occurred while fetching the profile: Reading file on /var/adm/mount//autoinst.xml failed. Reading file on /autoinst.xml failed. Reading file on CD failed. Path /tmp/Yast2-02878-KeDBUh/tmp_mount/autoinst.xml" And when I try to use hd://sda1/autoinst.xml It tells me hd is unknown protocol, Can someone tell how should I write the parameter for autoyast, or do you know somebody else can help me on this ? [opensuse] Windows don't wobble

Hi, Not a big issue but I like the effect, I have activated the desktop effects and all are working fine except that windows don't wobble when you drag them, I use openSUSE 10.2 with KDE 3.5.7 and nVidia drivers....
