[opensuse] How to put additional driver into Suse CDs

Hi all, Is it possible to add "additional" driver into Suse CD/DVD, so that user won't have to install the driver manually? I mean, so that when installed, Suse would be able to recognize and set the hardware without the need of recompiling and installing the driver manually by the user. For example some of Winmodem drivers. It would be very nice if user don't have to install it manually after Suse installed. There is a driver called slmodem available that I'd like to insert it to the stock CD. Is it possible? Some kind of "remastered" Suse with additional drivers? [opensuse] ThinkPad can't hibernate

hi Since upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2 my ThinkPad can't hibernate (suspend2disk). Almost all the time SuSE stops on message "Preparing hibernate..." Sometimes passing thru - show message "suspend: Snapdhoting system" and exactly hibernating. I'd update 10.2 via http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/openSUSE-stable/repo/oss/ So, I need help. [opensuse] Apache running perl in userdir, how?

Hi, I try to get a perl based webapplication running on my opensuse-10.2-i586 installation. It's a bit challenging, so to say.... The webapplication is ftree (http://www.cs.bme.hu/~bodon/en/ftree2/) In the end I want that I can run this as a regular user in /home/*/public_html/ftree/ (with * being any regular user login). Using yast I have now been able (again) to make /home/*/public_html working again, as this seems only possible via a virtual host.... 9quite confusing, to say the least). But it does not allow perl scripts to be run (yet). Therefor I changed to /srv/www/cgi-bin, as I know that perl is allowed to be run from there. And indeed ftree can be run from there. Actually ftree is installed in /srv/www/cgi-bin/cgi/ftree.cgi The ftree.cgi script refers to pictures with ../graphics/<file>, but these are not found. While the files are there (.e.g): /srv/www/cgi-bin/graphics/hblank.gif Why does ftree.cgi does not see those pictures? Is it because /etc/apache2/conf.d/mod_perl.conf specifies: ScriptAlias /cgi-perl/ "/srv/www/cgi-bin/" ? Anyway, is someone able to provide me hint how to get perl working in /home/*/public_html. Being with or without yast? Hmm, there are some funny things going on in this apache area. I can't read back the settings with yast for the vhost? Although there is a /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/yast2_vhosts.conf file. Is this a known problem? It does not seem possible configure log files for this vhost, using yast. [opensuse] How To Enable Linux Kernel Crash Dump (LKCD) in OpenSUSE 10.1

I'm having a difficult time enabling LKCD (Linux Kerrnel Crash Dump) so I can get a crash dump next time the machine crashes (which it has done twice in the last week for no evident reason). I'm an old hand with Linux, but SuSE is new to me, so I'm probably missing some SuSe-specific detail. This is OpenSuSE 10.1, running the SMP kernel: Linux hosting1 2.6.16.21-0.25-smp #1 SMP Tue Sep 19 07:26:15 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Part 1: Recompiling the kernel I cd /usr/src/linux and 'make menuconfig' I head into kernel hacking, and set LKCD to M. I then type make. After some time of compiling, it eventually bails: LD .tmp_vmlinux1 arch/x86_64/kernel/built-in.o:(__ksymtab_gpl+0x80): undefined reference to `page_is_ram' make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1 This also happens if I set LKCD to Y instead of M. Doesn't make any difference. Any word on how I can enable crash dump support in the kernel? Part 2: I'm a bit confused about versions. On LKCD's website lkcd.sourceforge.net the release of LKCD is 6.2.0 However, SuSE 10.1 x86_64 includes lkcdutils 7.1.0 Also, all of the docs about LKCD mention lkcd_config and other such binaries. However, the lkcdutils RPM only has 2 binaries: configdump and savedump. Am I completely confused here? [opensuse] How to firewall

So I am kind o a n00b when it comes to networking with SuSE. By n00b, I mean, I don't do it often enough to know what's going on lol. Anyways, I figured you guys would so maybe you can give me some pointers. Basically this is my setup, my DSL provider has given me 5 static IPs. Currently, 2 i am hosting systems with, one I am using for my wireless router to give certain systems DHCP instead of static (the modem/router they gave me can only work in static or DHCP modes). So this modem they gave me is also an ethernet router with four ports. I connect my Linksys wireless to port 4 and 2 systems are connected to the other two ports. Currently, I have a firewall but I am not thrilled with the one that they are giving me and I don't want to have to firewall the individual systems anymore. I have received a box (P4 nothing special, still need to spec it) and I want to make it an opensuse router. I want to be able to Firewall the whole network. (1), how would I connect this? (2) Can I set up this router to where I can still give my 2 systems (and future systems) their statics and all remaining systems with DHCP? If this works, I'll probably throw out that Linksys router and get a hub or switch. Do I configure these services within the box or the individual systems or the modem? I don't want to lose my static capabilites because I am connected to a router that is supposedly DHCP. Thank you guys for your time and assistance. [opensuse] Skype alternative needed for dial-up.

Hi, Some time ago I skype-ed with my mom sitting on modem dial-up. Few times it was quite OK, but recently the quality/speed is just horrib- le:( I'm on broadband already, so only her SUSE 8.2 comp' would limit the connection's speed... I did search on Google and came to other, mostly open software, which could be used for such voice-only contact. I have downloaded few of them, but before doing extensive trials on them, would ask for a feedback, if a customized (=well configured) skype or any other tools are in use somewhere through dial-up with quite enjoyable quality?! SuSE 10.2 Hmm - I UN-installed VirtualBox, deleted all files/directories from initial attempt.
