Hi ! [opensuse] Moto Q and SLED SP1

I have a moto Q phone, not a q9 or q9h, just a plain silver Q. This Q has a storage card in it. I plug the Q up via usb and it appears to charge but i have no way of accessing the storage card or the Q. The Q does have windoze mobile 5. Is it possible to get SLED SP1 to notice either the Q or the storage card? [opensuse] 4 Gig memory installed only 3 Gig seen? openSuSE 10.0

Mates, This was probably answered before, but I couldn't find it on a quick search. I have a dell optiplex GX280 and I just installed 4G of ram. The Bios sees all 4G just fine, but when I look at the memory with free it only shows 3G seen. Like: david@providence:~> free -tm total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3040 717 2322 0 54 450 -/+ buffers/cache: 212 2828 Swap: 1027 0 1027 Total: 4068 717 3350 What is the trick to getting all of the memory to be recognized? If there is a quick opensuse link, just shoot me that. Thanks. P.S. Terrible problem only having 2.3G free, instead of 3.3G free. But with 2G chips running $40, it's hard to pass up. -- David C. [opensuse] Problems with package repositories

Hi. Each time I try to install new software from download.opensuse.org (OSS), YaST begins to search a list of files (which I think must be the 'refreshing' of the repositories), but I receive a lot of errors like ERROR: file X not found in http://repository_url. However, when I click on retry, the file is successfully downloaded by YaST. I would like to request to repository administrators an explanation of what would be causing this behavior of YaST. [opensuse] Efficacy of file systems (for some applications)

I am trying to install MythTV and thought that just for the fun of it ( :-) ) I would read the documentation which comes for it. I quote directly from the doco. about which file systems to use when installing MythTV (because it can generate large files): QUOTE Filesystems MythTV creates large files, many in excess of 4GB. You must use a 64 or 128 bit filesystem. These will allow you to create large files. Filesystems known to have problems with large files are FAT (all versions), and CPU Type and Speed 10 Installing and using MythTV ReiserFS (versions 3 and 4). The ext3 filesystem can be made to work but requires great care in how you format and mount the volume. Because MythTV creates very large files, a filesystem that does well at deleting large files is important. Numerous benchmarks show that XFS and JFS do very well at this task. You are strongly encouraged to consider one of these for your MythTV filesystem. JFS is the absolute best at deletion, so you may want to try it if XFS gives you problems. MythTV .20 and above also incorporates a "slow delete" feature, which progressively shrinks the file rather than attempting to delete it all at once, so if you're more comfortable with a filesystem such as ext3 (whose delete performance for large files isn't that good) you may use it rather than one of the known-good high-performance file systems. There are other ramifications to using XFS and JFS - neither offer the opportunity to shrink a filesystem; they may only be expanded. NOTE: You must not use ReiserFS v3 for your recordings. You will get corrupted recordings if you do. Because of the size of the MythTV files, it may be useful to plan for future expansion right from the beginning. If your case and power supply have the capacity for additional hard drives, read through the LVM and Advanced Partition Formatting sections for some pointers. UNQUOTE I found the reference/comments about ext3 and Reiserfs, both used as 'defaults' in openSuse, interesting to say the least. Because I am installing (ie, trying to) on a 'test' computer, I have formatted the HDs with XFS and installed v10.3 on this 'test' system. (v10.3 with all the apps. I installed is running VERY well on XFS.) BTW, JFS is NOT available in v10.3. Noticed the following... The zipped package of openSUSE 10.3 PDF docs available from the 'ALL PDFs' button/link at the top of page http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse103/ apparently has a German language version of the Reference manual included inside, instead of the expected English version. The other PDFs in the zip are English language. If you download the Reference manual individually, however, you do get the English version. FWIW. Cheers. You mean an application dock? Try AWN (Avant Window Manager). [opensuse] Single-signon

Is there a way to configure openSUSE (any distro version actually) to use single-signon for ALL services? After playing with AD samba, kerberos, PAM (some, I dont really know PAM yet) configurations I still have issues with the following: 1. KDE still asks for a username and password when accessing windows shares (unless I statically enter the user pass combination in kcontrol) 2. CUPS needs static username password combination to access windows (samba) printers. 3. Firefox still asks for user;pass when accessing local NTLM pages. (not a OS issue, I know) 4. Evolution saves user;pass in keyring somewhere 5. knetworkmanager saves user;pass in kwallet Everytime our IT admin forces us to change our passwords I have to manually go and change it for all of the above. And if I forget - like with CUPS - and try and print, it locks my account. I know this is a lot harder than it sounds, but why don't all apps just use something like PAM to auth user activity? Why have keyrings, wallets, registries, credentials files, etc? Later, Hans ps. I actually know the answer, but still want to know if anyone else is also annoyed by this?
